Joel’s Reddit AMA in Interview Form

There’s a site called Interviewly.com, where they do something very valuable: They take Reddit AMA sessions and turn them into straightforward question-and-answer interviews that are a bit easier to follow (at least for an old fogey like me).

Here’s Joel’s semi-recent visit.

Weekend Discussion Thread: MSTed Movie People and What they Think About MST3K

Two things happened recently that got me thinking.

First, I got sent a preview copy of the next Shout!Factory set recently and one of the most interesting extras on it was the interview with Walter George Alton, who played The Pumuman. And I was a little taken aback about his opinion of the MST3K riffing. He said “some of it was a little bit offensive,” or words to that effect. He really did not appreciate it. The last time this happened was with the late Peter Graves, who expressed a very similar opinion of MST3K riffing.

Second, it was Lisa Loeb’s birthday the other day, and I noted the day on Twitter (using her twitter handle, so she would see it) and I included a link to a YouTube video of the host segment in which Bridget, as Lisa, visits the SOL. A while later I got a tweet back from Lisa! She tweeted “I LOVE THIS!!!”

So, there you have it, two MST3K targets, two very different responses.

And it got me thinking. I bet it would be interesting to find out what more movie cast members think of the MST3K version.

So here’s your topic: What other MST3K targets would you like to hear from and why? I’ll compile a list and see who I get in touch with. The whole thing may collapse and fail, but it will be interesting to try.

If you have any contact info or suggestions, that would help!

Have at it!

Send Trace and Frank to London?

As you may remember, because we mentioned it in previous years, the annual Sci-Fi London convention has, as one of its most popular attractions, a MST3K all nighter.

This year, the organizers are hoping to bring Trace and Frank over the pond to attend the event and do a panel. BUT, they (the organizers) are broke. So they are raising dough to fly Trace and Frank over and put them up in London.

If contributing to that is something you feel you would like to do, the page is here.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Worst Facial Hair

Alert reader Sue emails to say:

While watching ESPN this morning, there was a brief segment on retired NFL star Brett Favre’s new look. Although only 44, he’s currently sporting a very thick, very white beard. All I could think of when I saw his picture was Cameron Mitchell’s Santa look in Space Mutiny, further evidence that MST3K rules my life.

So…. WDT idea: Epic (or Epically Bad) Facial Hair in a MSTed Movie

My choices would be (1) for over-the-top supernatural facial hair, Michael Landon in “I Was a Teenage Werewolf,” (2) for just plain ugly, that Abraham Lincoln-ish spy in “Danger!! Death Ray!” and his lame chinstrap, and (3) for perfectly appropriate, the ventriloquist in “Devil Doll” with his lush yet creepy and almost pointed beard (“Mephistopheles goes uptown!”).

I’d pick Voldar from SCCTM. (“Pack your other mustache!”) Too bad we can’t pick the lady with the Rollie Fingers ‘stache in “Planet of Dinosaurs!”

Have at it!
