RIP Jess Franco

Franco MALAGA, SPAIN — Jesús “Jess” Franco, Spanish film director, writer, cinematographer and actor, died in a hospital here April 2 after suffering a stroke. He was 82.
His career took off in 1961 with his cult classic “The Awful Dr. Orloff.” Other films that were released in the U.S. included “Necronomicon” (1967), “Ninety-Nine Women” (1968). Later in his career he moved to France in order to make adult films and very violent horror films.
MSTies will surely never forget his 1968 opus, featured in episode 323- THE CASTLE OF FU MANCHU.

There’s an obit here, but it’s in Spanish.

Weekend Discussion Thread: MSTed Movies that Could Be Video Games

Alert reader Jay suggests:

The sneak peak of the ‘Manos’ game was awesome! Which other eps would be great as a video game, and what kind? I could see ‘Lost Continent’ as a platformer (I know, collective groan), or ‘Delta Knights’ as an action RPG, Zelda-style. Or not.

I am not really a gamer, but it seems like “Being from Another Planet” could easily be adapted into a first-person shooter.

What would your pick be?

Keep your suggestions coming!

RIP Buzz Podewell

NEW ORLEANS — Bruce “Buzz” Podewell, an actor, director and member of the theater faculty at Tulane University for nearly 40 years, died of lung cancer at his home here March 29. He was 69.
Althought Dr. Podewell was a co-founder and former artistic director of the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, served as the associate artistic director of the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, and was the longtime director of Tulane Center Stage, the theater department’s former summer-stock company, MSTies will remember one of his first roles: that of shy Buzz Turner in the short MR. B NATURAL, seen in episode 319- WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST.

The Times-Picayune has a great obit.

Wow, they say they come in threes…
