Jean Jackson, RIP

sunday Picasso Tooloose nighthawks

We are saddened to report the passing of Jean Jackson. Jean was a stalwart MSTie, an incredibly funny person, a talented artist and one of the most sensible people I’ve ever encountered. She will be greatly missed.
Many of you purchased her witty and wonderful MST3K-themed paintings (four of my favorites are shown above)–she was our first and longest-running advertiser. Her ebay store is down, and I have no idea if her prints will ever be available again. If and when we find out for certain I will let you know.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Required Musicals

Alert reader “Starviking” suggests:

You have covered required TV shows, movies, and music, but have you done musicals? Because I have noticed the Brains reference “The Music Man” past the breaking point! I’m not even sure if they mention any other musical, at least not the ones I’m most familiar with.

Oh, there are lots. Another one they do all the time is “A Chorus Line,” as in o/` Kiss today goodbye…o/`” and “CASSIE!”

Which musicals should people see to get the most riffs?

RIP Gerry Anderson

Gerry Anderson With Troy Tempest From '' Stingray'' in 1966 OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND–Gerry Anderson, creator of the Supermarionation process behind such hit TV series as “Fireball XL5,” “Thunderbirds” and “Stingray,” died in his sleep at a nursing home here Wednesday, Dec. 26. He was 83 and had suffered from dementia for several years.
MSTies will recall that the first two full-length MST3k episodes in the KTMA era were “Invaders from the Deep,” a movie edited together from episodes from “Stingray,” and “Revenge of the Mysterions,” a movie version of episodes from another Anderson series, “Captain Scarlet.” (No fan copies of those episodes exist.)
Anderson was also the producer of the TV series “Space: 1999,” two episodes of which were incorporated into K10- COSMIC PRINCESS. And, of course, Best Brains named the two “mole people” who worked for the Mads Gerry and Sylvia, in honor of Anderson and his wife.

There’s a nice appreciation here.
