Well, this wasn’t what I was going to do this week, but then the gang at The Onion’s “A.V. Club”
posted this article in which they list their 10 “essential” episodes. And I KNEW this would lead to days of people discussing where the list went right and where it went wrong. So why not just make it the WDT and leave it at that?
So, to be clear, this ISN’T your 10 FAVORITE episodes. It’s the 10 episodes you think everybody should see.
Here’s my list:
107- ROBOT MONSTER
208- LOST CONTINENT
303- POD PEOPLE
310- FUGITIVE ALIEN
423- BRIDE OF THE MONSTER
512- MITCHELL
609- THE SKY DIVERS
810- THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION
820- SPACE MUTINY
904- WEREWOLF
What’s yours?
(We had a little glitch and comments got closed [and I also fixed those wayward question marks]. Sorry. Open again.)
German director Kurt Maetzig died Aug. 8, according to this report from Reuters. He was 101. These European sources don’t often list the place and cause of death, but he was living in the German village of Wildkuhl and at age 101 we can surmise natural causes. In 1960 he directed “Der schweigende Stern,” based on Stanislaw Lem‘s novel “The Astronauts.” It was dubbed, edited and re-released in 1962 as the movie in episode 211- FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS.
