The “Scanner Planner” from the invention exchange in episode 511- GUNSLINGER is being auctioned off on eBay.
Presale of tickets for the upcoming spate of Cinematic Titanic shows begins on Monday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. (local time to the venue) In other CT news, here’s a review of the latest release by the Tucson Weekly’s resident MSTie, Bob Grimm. Between the Prelinger Archives at archive.org and the “one-reel wonders” on Turner Classic Movies, I’ve seen a lot of shorts that I would loved to see get riffed.
I’d love to see them do a “John Nesbitt’s Passing Parade” or one of those bizzaro “dogtown” shorts they show on TCM. But the one I saw most recently that I’d love to see them do is “The Trouble maker.” What’s your pick? Mike, Kevin and Bill, as promised, performed a live streaming riff of the short “Self-Conscious Guy” on their Web site tonight. Seems like there might have been a technical glitch or two, but on the whole it went pretty well. The big news is that Mike says they’ll be doing it again Wednesday, Jan. 28, at a time to be announced later. They answered a few questions afterwards. Kevin said he wants to write a book about how Hollywood sucks, but can’t find a publisher…go figure! Mike says he is NOT writing another book…and he doesn’t eat muffins. That was the gist of it… Update: Listen for yourself here, thanks to “alert fan bettertommorrowamy” by way of mega-alert fan Skenderberg You can now download the short, with riffing, here. In other RiffTrax news, Mike has been interviewed by Paste Magazine. And in still more RiffTrax news, RiffTrax will have a booth at Comic-Con in San Diego again this year. Booth #3251, for those of you playing along at home. No news yet on what they’ll be doing.
And yet another MSTed actor has passed. Ricardo Montalban, who was best known as Mr. Roarke on “Fantasy Island” and Khan Noonian Singh in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” (and the “Star Trek” episode “Space Seed”) died Jan. 14th in Los Angeles due to complications associated with old age. He was 88. MSTies will remember him as the uncredited dubbed voice of King Claudius in episode 1009- HAMLET. Coincidentally enough, he died on the same date–96 years later–that Hans Caninenberg, who portrayed Claudius in the movie, was born. The L.A. Times has posted an extensive obituary. |
