RIP Orrin Hatch

Salt Lake City, UTAH — Sen. Orrin Hatch, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate’s history, died here April 23. He was 88.

MSTies may recall that he was mentioned in a host segment in episode 904- WEREWOLF.

RIP Guy Lafleur

MONTREAL, CANADA–Montreal Canadiens legend Guy Lafleur, who helped the team win five Stanley Cup titles in the 1970s, died April 22. He was 70, and had been battling lung cancer for several years.

The No. 1 pick in the 1971 NHL draft, Lafleur registered 518 goals and 728 assists in 14 seasons with Montreal.

Gilbert Gottfried, RIP

New York City — Gilbert Gottfried, the brash comedian with the grating voice, died here April 12 of a rare genetic muscle disorder. He was 67.

He had type II myotonic dystrophy, a kind of muscular dystrophy and had been battling it for some time. The cast of Broadway’s “Aladdin” dedicated its Tuesday night performance to late comedian.

MSTies will remember that he was mentioned in the well-remembered “Joey the Lemur” sketch in episode 210- KING DINOSAUR.

RIP Bill Fries, aka “C.W. McCall”

Colorado –William Dale Fries Jr., an Omaha advertising executive who created the character of long haul trucker C.W. McCall, a regular on citizen’s band (CB for short) radio, died at his home here on April 1. He created a pop culture phenomenon in the 1970s, when, as McCall, he performed 1976 crossover No. 1 hit “Convoy.” The song inspired a 1978 movie of the same name, starring Kris Kristofferson. Fries was 93.
