 Franklin, Tenn. — Country music songwriter Tom T. Hall died at his home here Aug. 20. He was 85.
Known to his fans and fellow musicians as “the Storyteller,” Hall was among a small circle of Nashville songwriters, including Kris Kristofferson, Roger Miller and others, who imbued country lyrics with newfound depth and insight in the 1960s and ’70s. MSTies will recall TV’s Frank declaring his admiration for Hall in a host segment in episode 318- STAR FORCE: FUGITIVE ALIEN I. There’s an extensive appreciation here. LONDON — When Charlie Watts, the legendary drummer for the Rolling Stones, died on Aug. 24 (he was 80) in hospital here, I wasn’t sure there was a MSTory connection. But I was reminded of conversation about drummers in a host segment in episode K18- THE MILLION EYES OF SU-MURU. So all we can do is remove his asterisk and say RIP.
 Kimitsu City, Japan — Actor and martial artist Sonny Chiba died at a hospital here Aug. 19, due to pneumonia caused by COVID-19. He was 82.
A pivotal figure in the 1970s explosion of martial arts cinema, he is perhaps best known as the “fists for hire” trouble shooter Takuma (Terry) Tsurugi in the popular “Street Fighter” series of action films. MSTies know him for his portrayal of Ironsharp a.k.a. Space Chief in the movie in episode 819- INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN.
