Weekend Discussion Thread: Fill In the Missing Stingers

The following episodes (not counting KTMA) do not have stingers.
101- THE CRAWLING EYE

103- MAD MONSTER
104- WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET
105- THE CORPSE VANISHES
106- THE CRAWLING HAND
107- ROBOT MONSTER
108- THE SLIME PEOPLE
109- PROJECT MOONBASE
110- ROBOT HOLOCAUST
111- MOON ZERO TWO
112- UNTAMED YOUTH
113- THE BLACK SCORPION
201- ROCKETSHIP X-M
202- THE SIDEHACKERS
203- JUNGLE GODDESS

207- WILD REBELS
805- THE THING THAT COULDN’T DIE
806- THE UNDEAD
807- TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000
808- THE SHE CREATURE

I say, let’s give ’em one! I’m not going to do them all, but just to start off the conversation:
102- THE ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY–A snippet of the silly Aztec ceremony and the singing lady.
104- WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET–“Hi-keeba!”
106- THE CRAWLING HAND–“No dancing. Not allowed.”
107- ROBOT MONSTER–“I cannot! But I must!”
108- THE SLIME PEOPLE–The Tom Waits guy in the theater.
110- ROBOT HOLOCAUST–“Yoo and yur dawtah ah doomt!”
111- MOON ZERO TWO–The girl walks into the locker room and gets a good look at our hero.
201- ROCKETSHIP X-M–“Mars, extending us a welcome!”
204- CATALINA CAPER–A shot of Little Richard, looking high on goofballs
806- THE UNDEAD–“STAAAAY!”

Some of them are obvious. But maybe you have a better choice? Let’s hear it! (And any KTMA fans who want to suggest stingers for them are welcome.)

    Hmmm…

Moon Zero Two: Either any scene from the “zero G” bar fight, or Kemp shooting the guy who immediately deflates.
    Jungle Goddess: French fried potatoes!
The Thing that Couldn’t Die: The disembodied head stares hynotically.

    And three KTMAs…

Cosmic Princess: Rippling faces in the Eagle.
Hanger 18: Flight of the headless astronaut.
Million Eyes of SuMaru: Death by thigh strangulation.

  5. daffyphack says:

    808 – THE SHE-CREATURE
That last scene where Lance Fuller sorta stares at the creature with no emotion readily apparent.

  6. BobTanaka says:

Robot vs. Aztec Mummy: quite a few; either Bruno getting his face burned, the mad scientist: “I tortured many animals, with PLEASURE!” (or pretty much any scene from his big speech) or the insta-escape by the good guys.

  7. adoptadog says:

Totally agree with The Undead (“Staaaaay!”) and Wild Rebels (“This square bugs me! He really bugs meee!”).

For Catalina Caper, the shot of the trio playing underwater (which was mentioned by someone in the Best Stingers discussion…you nailed it!).

  8. underwoc says:

ROBOT MONSTER – Personally, I think the stinger has to show the nefarious “bubble machine” in action.

    ROBOT HOLOCAUST – Valeria, definitely.

SIDEHACKERS – “He hit big Jake!”

WILD REBELS – either “This square bugs me. He really BUGS me!” or “Your so square you look like a box.”

CATALINA CAPER – Because of all the sight gags in this this movie, nearly any scene could be a decent stinger. Little Richard, Agent Pratfall (and the adventure of the missing bra  ), balding teen musicians, Crayola Hat Guy (“I just don’t trust a kid who doesn’t follow baseball.”), the “Greek” crime boss, girls slapping boys, spazzy dancing, etc.

  9. Jedzz says:

Don’t forget Village of the Giants, which had the tribute to Frank Zappa in place of the stinger.

terror from the year 5000 – has to be the mutant lady from the future wiggling her shiny gold fingernails to hypnotize the other characters. god, i want fingernails like that.

catalina caper – i concur! definitely anything involving little richard. or creepy girl for that matter.

  12. Brad says:

I agree with Wilford. “That square bugs me…” would be my first choice for “Wild Rebels”. For my second choice, I might say “You forgot the name of the game, Rod. It’s ‘Kicks'”.

  13. OTL says:

For Sidehackers, I’d probably have to go with:
“Hey Rommel, you like those chili peppers Lois gets?”
“Yeah, yeah, but they burn my gut.”
If only because they would quote it in later episodes…

  14. Did It For The Kicks Man says:

201 Rocketship X-M- “Texas a mere speck? Listen my friend I’m broad-minded, but dont ever let another Texan hear you say that”
107 Robot Monster- “To live like the Hu-man”
203 Jungle Goddess – either “how fortunate! this simplifies everything!” or the spider blowing up and killing a tree
207 Wild Rebels – after beating up the college guys at the bar,Fats looking through the broken bottleneck and going ‘psh!’ while dropping it on them, or Rod Tillman’s epileptic dancing
805 The Thing that Couldnt Die – “you’re all horrible! i hope you all die! I hope a tree falls on you!” or Mike digging a perfectly rectangular hole.
    806 The Undead – I agree…”STAAAAAAY!” is a brilliant stinger

  15. 805- THE THING THAT COULDN’T DIE – Definitely agree with “You’re all horrible! I hope a tree falls on you!”
    806- THE UNDEAD
    “STAYYYYY!”
807- TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000
    Jimmy Carter has disco fever
    808- THE SHE CREATURE
Lance Fuller mumbling to Cathy Downs about how he doesn’t belong here

  17. lancecorbain says:

Mad Monster-The Scientist looking out the window in delight, or the wolfman slipping out of consiousness saying “I don’t want to hurt no body….”(or whatever he says there, it’s been awhile! Sorry!)

The Black Scorpion-the scorpion chasing the meat truck.

Robot Vs. The Aztec Mummy–the Aztec Mummy tearing the robot apart.

Catalina Caper-Tommy Kirk saying “Join us”.

  18. TV's crowschmo says:

Oh, boy. I can’t remember enough of the eps I have on this list (only 7, sadly) to think of a good stinger. I’ll have to get back to this one. Looks like I’m going to have to do a marathon.

I CAN agree with one right away, though – Hi-Keeba, definitely for WOTPP.

  19. Evelyn says:

For Robot V. Aztec Mummy, I like the mad scientist giddy over his robot creation: “AH-HA HA HA HA HA! The Greatest Invention! AH HA HA HAHH!”
    Its pure monologue gold.

  20. lancecorbain says:

Oh, and any of the season ones with Commando Cody shorts could have the “nipple-tweak-run-three-steps-and-take-off” move he did, it’s so iconic of that season.

  21. Diamond Joe says:

Robot Holocaust: The last time I saw it, I was surprised to notice that Valeria never actually says “You and your daughter are doomed.” It’s just one of those things that it feels like she SHOULD have said, like how (as I recall), no one ever says “Beam me up, Scotty” in the original Star Trek series. I think I’ll go for something from Sad Avocado Dad. That’s an engagingly surreal scene.

Crawling Hand: “Paul… what does it mean, I’m ‘stacked?'”

Robot Monster: The one that goes something like, “Where do ‘cannot’ and ‘must’ intersect on the graph?”

Sidehackers: J.C. I can’t remember the exact line, but it ends with, “but he said no.” Michael Pataki’s extravagant face acting on this always kills me.

Catalina Caper: Pratfall Guy trips on the ramp and says, “I don’t believe it.”

Wild Rebels: “THIS SQUARE BUGS ME! HE REALLY BUGS ME!”

  22. OTL says:

I couldn’t remember which episode in specific had “How fortunate! This will simplify everything!” until Did It For The Kicks Man mentioned it above, but that should definitely be the stinger for Jungle Goddess.

For Mad Monster, I think the old lady saying “It’s the werewolf! Can’t kill him no ways, ‘cept with a silver bullet!” could be a good choice.

“Hi-keeba!” is the clear winner for Women of the Prehistoric Planet, of course.

For Robot Monster, I’m tempted to go with “You’re just a big bully, picking on people smaller than you are.” “Now I will kill you.”

  23. Vornoff says:

Robot Monster: “The Psychotronic vibrations will smash the planet earth out of the solar system!”

The Slime People: Definitely should be a Tolliver line. I’m torn between “So long, characters!” and “I say, Tom, are you driving this worn-out old heap?”

Sidehackers: “I want you to kill Rommel.”
“I will. I will do it.”

Catalina Caper: “Put your hands down!”

The Undead: One of Smolkin’s songs “The worms crawl in/the worms crawl out…”

Also, episode 406, “The Giant Leeches” used a clip from the short for the stinger, so we missed out on having Cal pleading “Don’t do it Dave! I’m your friend Dave!” in the stinger. (Does anyone else think Cal looks like Adam Sandler?)

  25. Dangerface says:

I like Diamond Joe’s “stacked” stinger for The Crawling Hand, but I’ve got a couple of my own.

    1. The coroners are picking up the body, “Boy, I sure could use a beer.”

    2. Sheriff Skipper answers the phone while shaving.

  26. 106 – Crawling Hand – Dames like this always got beer.

112 – Untamed Youth – sultry siren smoking a cig after her boyfriend leaves, or Mamie after singing her song saying ‘I have to get dressed’

113 – The Black Scorpion – fakey shot of the cage being lowered into the caves. Or closeup of a giant scorpion with ooze coming out of it’s mouth.

203 – Jungle Goddess – white hunter shoots the native

204 – Catalina Caper – Alan Sherman wannabe: Ya got me!

207 – Wild Rebels – Shut up, Iris!

807 – Terror from the year 5000 – our ‘hero’ doing a little skip after leaving his lady love’s room. Or the Jimmy Carter-esque caretaker staring blankly at the Terror

  27. oops! I got Wild Rebels confused with The Beatniks! How embarassing! OK, then:

207 – Wild Rebels – bikers beat up the preppies

How could you exclude KTMA? – That’s a ton of Gamera right there!

KO4: Gamera vs. Barugon – The killer rainbow.

K05: Gamera – The explosion, and the kid being let go, with just laughs.

K06: Gamera vs. Gaos – Impossible mouth laser beams.

K07: Gamera vs. Zigra – Transformation.

K08: Gamera vs. Guiron – Guiron chopping up Space Gaos – horribly fake and lame.

K09: Phase IV – Ant mirrors.

K13: SST Deathflight – The guy gets up with his air mask on.

K20: The Last Chase – The old guy saying you can’t get flowers any more (and yet, they are primarily worried about not having gas?)

  29. Rowsdower42 says:

202 – Sidehackers – Either the “Well that’s not bad!” “It’s pretty good!” sequence or “MY OWN FLESH I DON’T LOVE BETTER!” JC screams it so well.

203 – Jungle Goddess – Hamburger Sammich and some French Fried Potatoes!

204 – Catalina Caper – One of Exidor’s many pratfalls.

523 – Village of the Giants – Tying up the big fake legs, and then Beau’s terrible reactions. He always looks like he’s ready to hurl. Either that, or the guy riding the breasts. Be careful what you wish for!

805 – The Thing That Couldn’t Die – Either the “Tree falls on you!” speech or big Mike saying “I have my hands. My hands are strong.”

806 – The Undead – STAAAY!, of course.

807 – Terror from the Year 5000 – Angelo, peeping. Or that one guy doing his hilarious impression outside of the movie theater.

808 – The She-Creature – The glasses flying back on that guys doughy head.

You know, the ACEG book lists a stinger for Wild Rebels, yet all episode copies (including the official Rhino release) doesn’t contain one.

  31. jon says:

“The Thing That Couldn’t Die”- there’s a shot of the dumb guy holding the dead guy’s head up to the window that’s kind of goofy.

“The Undead” – “Stay” is great, but one of Digger Smolken’s songs just feels more like a stinger to me.

“Catalina Caper” – a snippet of that scene where the girls line up to kiss Blonde Guy

  32. MikeK says:

202- The Sidehackers. “Did you see that? He hit Big Jake.” or J.C. attempts Sidehacking. (This not only humiliates J.C. but it also makes Sidehacking look really lame.)

204- Catalina Caper. “You just can’t trust a kid who don’t follow baseball.”

805- The Thing That Couldn’t Die. Aunt Flav-o-rite exclaiming, “Look! A tray-sure chest!”

  33. Randy Jepsen says:

THE MAD MONSTER. Glenn Strange sitting behind the doctor and looking around like he has never been inside a house before.

  34. Green Switch says:

106 – The Crawling Hand: either the closeup of the doomed astronaut with the smeared eyeliner crying out for help or the girlfriend screaming at the sight of the astronaut’s arm on the beach.

202 – Sidehackers: Easily “MY OWN FLESH I DON’T LOVE BETTER!”

204 – Catalina Caper: Little Richard singing: “Now won’t you swim around, don’t be a square, woooo!”

523 – Village of the Giants: the parade of midgets at the end.

805 – The Thing That Couldn’t Die: Big Mike boasting that his hands are strong.

806 – The Undead: “STAAAAAAAAAY!” seems like a natural choice here.

I also like that one quickly-delivered and unintelligible line by the dungeon master that causes Mike to deliver the riff: “You wanna run that one by me again?”

And then there’s that quick shot of Quintus’ headless body in the office towards the end.

807 – Terror from the Year 5000: hero Robert’s goofy skip.

808 – The She-Creature: the closeup of that one carnival worker screaming right before the creature kills him with the mattress.

102- THE ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY – The evil Dr. Crup’s crazy laugh of triumph.
103- MAD MONSTER – The pipe-smoking grammy snickering.
104- WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET – LINDA! or the slap exchange between Linda and Tang.
105- THE CORPSE VANISHES – The female lead being followed through the catacombs of Bela’s castle by the turkey-leg-eating sort-of hunchback.
106- THE CRAWLING HAND – “PUSH IT!!! AAARRGH!”
107- ROBOT MONSTER – “I must do it with my hands.”
108- THE SLIME PEOPLE – The goat-loving writer: “So long, characters!”
109- PROJECT MOONBASE – General to colonel: “Any more talk like that and I’ll turn you over my knee and spank you!”
110- ROBOT HOLOCAUST – Amazon leader: “The first thing we do is cut out their tongues, men chatter so.”
111- MOON ZERO TWO – Captain Kemp: “I’m always at a disadvantage when I haven’t any clothes on.”
112- UNTAMED YOUTH – Geeky Jerry Lewis lookalike dancing
113- THE BLACK SCORPION – Juanito: “I’ll take care of dem!”.
201- ROCKETSHIP X-M – The Martian woman screaming.
202- THE SIDEHACKERS – Rommel’s friend: “Soft. Well I may be soft, but I’m still… FAST!”
203- JUNGLE GODDESS – One of the early rants by the witch doctor in which he gets cut short.
204- CATALINA CAPER – Fingers O’Toole hallucinating a band performing on the bottom of the ocean.
    207- WILD REBELS – The now-you-see-it no-you-don’t guitar.
805- THE THING THAT COULDN’T DIE – “I got strong hands”.
806- THE UNDEAD – Any of Digger Smolkin’s songs
807- TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000 – Dr. Robert Hedges award winning Frankenstein’s Monster impression.
808- THE SHE CREATURE – “My poops is peeps.”

    Also:
K09- Phase IV – Dr. Ernest D. Hubbs: “Let’s see some activity!”
K10- Cosmic Princess – Pathetic red-helmeted alien in the second half/episode.
K11- Humanoid Woman – Dwarf alien laughing.
K13- SST Death Flight – Misty Rowe: “Don’t you say that word!”
K15- Superdome – David Janssen: “Here, have some catfish.”
K16- City on Fire – Old timer needs some help with his..uhm..well..you know.
K18- The Million Eyes of Su-Muru – Our heroes very oddly running away.
K19- Hangar 18 – When the bald aliens are “shockingly” revealed.
K20- The Last Chase – Burgess Meredith howling and talkin’ all seductive-like to his plane.
K21- Legend of the Dinosaurs – “When the weather is bad, some people go mad. So, let’s have fun. Here we go.”

I haven’t seen all of them to get a good feel, even though I did a thread on this(and replacement stingers) at the Discussion Board earlier this year, so let me get a few off the top of my head:

Woman of the Prehistoric Planet: Agree with “Hi-Keeba!” No-brainer.
Catalina Caper: A scene of all the girls crowding around Charlie.
Village of the Giants: The giant kids dancing.
The Thing That Couldn’t Die: First seeing the head in the chest, then cut to the big dumb guy staring at it open mouthed.
    The Undead: STAAAAYYYY!!! Another no-brainer.
Terror from the Year 5000: I agree with the shot of Angelo with the lights all around his face.
She-Creature: The dog barking and the butler having his tie pop off.
    And a bonus KTMA:
SST Death Flight: Regis Philbin interviwing Martin Milner.

City on Fire’s stinger ought to be any of the umpteen “person running while on fire” scenes. That’d perfectly sum up the movie’s tragedy porn feel.

Sorry, thought of a few more:

SST Death Flight – “DON’T SAY THAT WORD!!!”
Project Moonbase – Hayden Rorke’s “Pipe Down!”
Untamed Youth – a snippet of the clown dance

I was surprised to see so few (one?) stinger for Crawling Eye! While I like “His head! it was torn off!” from the beginning, I think the “very expensive” bit from the observatory bit would be very good. Or “I have to have, and I have!”

WILD REBELS: “That square bugs me! He REALLY bugs me!”

  50. The Bolem says:

I’ll support the underwater jam session for Catalina Caper, as long as it ends on the cut back up to inspector Exidor ready to hurl over the side of his boat.

I think only one poster mentioned this one for Sidehackers, but my choice would be the end of the scene where J.C. sends Gooch to infiltrate Rommel’s new posse, and it’s such a tender moment:

GOOCH: I’d do anything for you, J.C.

    J.C.: I know. I know.

POW!!! And J.C. spontaneously punches him in the face as hard as he can. The timing is just perfect.

And for Robot Monster, I’d go with the ’20 Million B.C.’ stock-footage monitor lizard death duel. It was such a non-sequiter moment that it’s perfect stinger material.
