Has anybody actually watched the Thor riff yet? It certainly has a lot of hype to live up to!

    Wow….this is a depressing thread.

For the record, I love Rifftrax and find, amazingly, that the quality of their product has only improved over the years.

Galaxy Invader, Abraxas, Birdemic…all recent and all off the charts hilarious.

Whether they’re after Star Trek, Star Wars, M. Night’s cannon of work or something as goofy as The Room….they’ve brought me so much entertainment. I genuinely feel lucky after MST3K being off the air for so long to have these guys (The Beatles of comedy, in my opinion) still around and making great content.

To each his own, but, I’m tempted to suggest (in Crow’s Swamp Thing impression voice) “do not bring your evil here.”

    Droppo #52> Preach on brother.

Not every Rifftrax is a hit with me for various reasons. But one has to remember the dark days between 1999-2006 when we had nothing new to look forward to.

@Fish – I have some nude photos of Chaz Bono or close-up pics of Nick Nolte’s inner thigh that might help.

So, has anyone seen the movie with the riffs? Anyone? Is it funny? Anyone?

@46 Thank you. Initially, I couldn’t tell who exactly you were referring to . . . EricJ was obviously shoveling on the hate, but only my posts had been notably long, so it seemed like you might be conflating the two. So what I wrote about the casseroles was supposed to be a quick, simple way – while approving of your metaphor – to reaffirm my position (“this stuff is good, but sometimes there can be problems”) while seeing if it would trigger you into committing to a jibe against him or against me. The result – well, as you noted, without an emoticon (or without unmistakeable phrasing/clarification), yes, it did very much look like you were lumping my thoughts into the same *ad nauseam* denigration EricJ seems obsessed with.

So no hard feelings on my part. In retrospect I see I should also have been clearer that I was referring to EricJ with my “I don’t insult the chef” comment – it was somewhat ambiguous.

@52 *Thank you,* for being someone who actually replied to my question. I too like RT immensely and I haven’t seen as many full-length titles as I’m sure many here have, so I wanted a heads-up on what other people were experiencing! I definitely need to see Galaxy Invader and Abraxas. While I don’t have a problem with RT doing mainstream movies (especially since it was mainly rights and royalties that kept MST3k from potentially doing the same!), I do like it when they cover some old-school cheese now and again.

Finally, as to the discussion on packaging notions: When I first saw the cover for Galaxy Invader, my impression was that the DisembAudio-style covers would be used from here on out for the older, low-budget, more obscure kind of movie, while the other style would continue to be applied to big-name stuff, thereby connecting the well-known mainstream films directly with the Riffers in the minds of customers – and leaving little doubt as to the nature of the product.

Using Dis on just the low-key titles seemed like a logical way to save time and budget on these (I presume) lower-selling releases. I have to admit that the nature of the product seems like it’d be rather more obscure to newbies – *I* for one would not have associated a shotgun-wielding toaster with movie-riffing. It looks like it could be some weird kid’s movie. Still, my gut reaction was that it made sense as a way to distinguish truly corny B-movies from the big-name entries.

That’s my piece. I’m out for another long lurking session. Well, probably.

@58 Water under the bridge. All my post were meant to be harmless jabs against EricJ, not you, but, in my mind it was clear, on “paper” it wasn’t so clear. No hard feelings here either.

“If Thor was considered the good superhero movie of 2011, just exactly how wretched must Green Lantern have been?”
I thought Captain America was supposed to be the “good” superhero movie of 2011…

  12. Reading through this thread only reminds me why I don’t post here any more. Rifftrax.com has it’s own forums, so anyone serious about them can post there. It seems at Sat. News, only the jackasses show up, esp. Eric & Rap: get a room.

  13. I did watch the Thor w/ riff. It was good. Decent movie with some great FX but filled with dumb moments ripe for mockery. Naysayers should have their sense of humor checked. As far as I’m concerned, RT are on a roll, servicing both their current fans with mainstream geek-friendly titles, and the old MST fan-base with VOD’s like Abraxas, Galaxy Invader, and Crater Lake Monster. Not to mention Jack the Giant Killer. Everyone wins.

Magnificent issues altogether, you simply gained a brand new reader. What may you suggest about your publish that you just made a few days ago? Any positive?
