There are two films with this title. Is CT doing the 1971 version with John Carradine or the 1978 version?

Upon viewing the trailer with out sound [stupid cheap bosses won’t buy speakers for my computer} I am guessing it’s the 1971 version. Ha – answered my own question!

That guy DID look like the head of Mel Brooks and the body of Atlas.

  5. Mm. Hope it’s good.

I’ve heard about this movie but never seen.

Just hope this one is funny! Mary Jo and Frank apart, the delivery is often stilted.

I guess calling the knife “Stabby” is supposed to be funny, either directly or ironically. It didn’t work earlier in the series, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to work this time either. Sigh.

    But buy I must.

But the “soliloquy from ‘..Benji'” line has definite promise !!

    There may be hope yet.

Just please don’t let this be another “Doomsday Machine”. The riffing on DM was cool but the movie choice was bad. “Oozing Skull” was good, “Wasp Woman” was great, but DM just completely ticked me off. At least “Manos” had an ending and there was a certain amount of passion that went into it’s making. But DM just… stopped. The makers didn’t care. Yes, the director of “The The Eye Creatures” cared, he just wasn’t Spielberg.

I’ll stop before the train jumps the tracks.

This is the best trailer yet, definitely feel more compelled to buy than with DM and Wasp Woman. The Mel Brooks/Atlas line is great. And the stabby line clicks fine. ‘Cuz ya know, there’s a creepy guy looking amorously at a knife as he waves it in front of his face.

I don’t know, Giz ( #9 ). Doomsday Machine is sort of like a big budget version of Monster Agogo…. you’ve got 75 minutes of film in the can, you’ve blown your budget, but you’ve got to tack some kind of ending onto it anyway, no matter how cheesy.

You all know my credentials as a CT non-believer, but Doomsday Machine was a good choice, the cast alone… Ruta Lee ( she worked with Hitchcock ! ) Mike Farrell, Casey Kasam, that Chunk Beefpile guy… not to mention the production values.

But then perhaps it is because of all of these things that the ultra-lamo ending hurts so much…

Id like to see some rankings of the films so far. Mine would go like…

    1. Doomsday Machine: A really really turdburger of a flick, but that’s what made it great
    2. Oozing Skull: So far the film with the most story behind it
    3. Wasp Woman: A little on the boring side as not too much really happens in the film. Much too long getting to the Wasp Woman.

What do the rest of ya think?

  13. I also liked the “stabby” line — made me laugh and I’m not really sure why (and that’s the best MST3K type humor, IMHO).

So far I still think “The Film Crew” (may they rest in peace) was the only MST3K 2.0 out there. CT is what I’d call MST3K .8 — not quite there, but still worthwhile (kind of like second season MST3K). But I’ll keep buying them (as well as the RT shorts) because I want these guys to succeed.

But rank these films? You could rank CT’s efforts on these films, but the films themselves are too rank to, uh, rank, so to speak.

I don’t know. The funniest thing to me in the trailer was the line about “the last thing a chili dog sees”, and that was a direct lift from an MST3K episode.

CT still feels like an above average fan-riffing project to me, for some reason.

Haven’t Wasp Woman yet but really loved Doomsday Machine (I was laughing so hard during the last 15 minutes I nearly hurt myself).
This looks like a good choice of a film. John Carradine did so much junk in the early seventies. And how can you not love a film directed by the guy who wrote the classic exploitation pic, “The Acid Eaters?”

  18. Garth Arizona says:

My rank of CT offerings so far:

    1. Doomsday Machine
    2. Oozing Skull
    3. Wasp Woman

DM was HORRIBLE, but the riffing was great. WW just didn’t do it for me, even though it seems to be most people’s favorite CT so far.

I think The Film Crew had a more spontaneous riffing style than CT. CT seems a little stilted and disjointed. They seem to be “performing” more than riffing.

Not saying I don’t love CT, because I do. And I can’t wait for Legacy of Blood. I think this one is gonna be the best so far.

    The Holiday offering sounds intriguing.

  19. I like The Oozing Skull best, by far. Then Doomsday Machine.

I thought Wasp Woman was developing to be the best… I thought they had evolved, but then the film-breaks came along. and they were bad. and the spell was broken. sigh.

So I have to list them as :

Doomsday Machine ( on the strength of the film itself ).
Wasp Woman ( Close close 2nd, for almost breaking through ).
Oozing Skull ( does nothing for me ).

BIG61AL: I’m pretty sure this the 1978 Andy Milligan version. Every frame of that trailor oozes Milligan sleaze.

  22. John Seavey says:

I’m looking forward to this one, but that’s not saying much because I’ve looked forward to all of them. :) I’ve enjoyed them all, too–I think they work better on the second or third viewing, once the badness of the movie has faded to a dull roar and you can really focus on the jokes.

    My list so far:

    1. Doomsday Machine. I just love the sketches in this one. “Do you really think you can keep this bit up for 20 more seconds?” “No, but I’m pretty much committed to it.”
    2. Oozing Skull. Not as good in the sketch department, and a few too many “short” gags at the beginning, but it holds up pretty well for the first show.
    3. Wasp Woman. Corman’s dullness makes it hard to get any traction on the riffs, and the Buddy Rich sketch is less “funny” than “oh, so that’s what Buddy Rich was like.”

  23. Happenstance says:

    3. “Doomsday Machine.” Off to a great start, climaxes at the horrifically inept airlock-rape scene, but that whole voice-from-WTF-land faceless ending not only had me watching the clock, it seemed to weigh heavily on our team of riffers.

    2. “The Wasp Woman.” Actually the first time I’ve seen the full version. Wasn’t missing much; the added footage is all drag. Killer lines from the gang, but not unlike your average Hollywood crapfest, the best ones were in the trailer.

    1. “The Oozing Skull.” It’s just as bad as any Al Adamson mess, and like same, throws nonsensical curves at you all the way to the very end. Riffing is crisp and steady. I didn’t mind the new format at all.

I guess, to me, the movie itself is as important as the riffing. Despite my comments above, I think the riffing maintains a steady quality, so I really notice the movie by contrast.

There’s plenty of truly awful movies that aren’t boring. Personally, I’d love to see “Night Of The Lepus” get its just desserts, or the mindbogglingly atrocious “H. G. Wells’ The Shape Of Things To Come” (1979), or Irwin Allen’s last (theatrical) gasp, “When Time Ran Out.”

    One word, people: “Megaforce.”

I’ll agree with several other in that “Doomsday Machine” has been my favorite release by CT so far. I felt “Wasp Woman” was pretty good, but at about the same level as “Oozing Skull”. Maybe they both need repeated viewings, but “DM” hit the mark for me first time through. Looking forward to “Legacy”, and wish CT would offer pre-orders on their product. I like the 1-a-month pace they’ve adopted.

  25. I challenge anybody to go through all three films and count the hits and misses. If that’s what defines overall quality, I think (meaning, IMO) any choice but The Oozing Skull is absurd. I thought the Oozing skull has very few misses and I think the movie is more fun, besides.

Go ahead and count ’em, I’ll wait…

I agree with the Professor: this looks like the Andy Milligan version. And if it is, I wonder if they’ll do The Ghastly Ones next? :)

  27. The Professor says:

Oh, if they do another Milligan film it has to be Monstrosity. It’s Milligan’s answer to the Toxic Avenger and it’s a doozy to be sure. And Nick, if you see this, can you PLEASE tell me what the hell the last line in the Ghastly Ones is? I’ve been wondering for years.

Happenstance: Megaforce is a classic choice. It would feel like an old MST3K ep. (That IS the one with Barry Bostwick, right?)

Off the top of my head, I don’t know. Dollars to donuts it was Andy screaming a direction to his cast, but I’ll watch it again to be sure.
