Weekend Discussion Thread: Ringtones

Alert reader Kyle writes:

I have a smartphone and I was looking for ringtones/alerts. I found an app that I like for tones and decided to look up MST3K, not expecting anything! But I did!! They have “It stinks!,” “Whaddya think sirs?,” Torgo’s theme, some buff names from “Space Mutiny,” and theme songs with Mike and Joel. Which ringtone(s) would people want? Theme songs? Quotes during the movie? Mike, Joel, TV Frank? The list would be endless.

The RiffTrax guys created a bunch a few years ago. I downloaded a few, including “Boil ’em, mash ’em, stick ’em in a stew” from their riff of “The Two Towers.” But I currently use the Schnappi theme song as my main ringtone.

So, what ringtones do you have, and what would you want?

    (It’s not really that bold).

BTW, you can use iTunes to make your own 30-second ringtones for your personal use (you can Google directions). I did make ringtones of the MST3K closing theme and Torgo’s Theme. With those, there’s never any doubt whose phone is ringing. :-D

I made one from the Gamera song, but it’s the children’s chorus. Also, the first bars of Tom singing Secret Agent Super Dragon, and Master Ninja Theme Song.

One I’d like is Joel’s “It’s Nightmare the Clown, he’s comin’ to your town!” from Monster A-go-go.

My text message sound is “Mitchell!”

My parent’s ringtone is Torgo’s Theme.

My email sending tone is Crow saying “um-de-de-de-he-he: Hoo-ah, Hoo-ah”. Man, I wish I knew what that reference was.

When either of my grown kids (both huge MST3K fans — did I raise ’em right or what?) calls, I have a short clip of “Hangin’ Out With My Family” from “Birdemic.” I’d like to get either “Torgo’s Theme” or the closing theme from MST3K as my regular ring tone; just haven’t done it yet.

Probably a ring tone that no one should have is “There’s a mantis in my pantis!”

    Great discussion topic!!

I would use as my ringtone Krankor’s laugh, it helps to lifts my spirits. The “Help me” bit from Rocket Attack USA, it’s such a weird moment, even for a psychotronic movie. The “Boink! Boink everybody! Boink!” from Are you Ready for Marriage, the Girl in Gold Boots theme and The Zombie Stomp, because I genuinely like those songs. And last but not least, the jingle from the Wild Rebels’ cereal commercial.

For the Christmas season: the ‘Little Drummer Boy’ number from TSCWSLABMUZ.

Your Aunt from New York: Mike saying “Hi” in the Fran Drescher-esque voice from the above scene.

Imagine having the villain’s theme from Operation Double 007 as your ringtone… You just let it keep ringing until someone says “uh, sir, your phone is ringing” to which you answer “I know.”

I’d also go with the Torgo Theme or maybe Hoyt Axton’s “Mitchell” theme song.

For alerts: “My tires are filled with water!” or “Shtemlo,” or maybe even “GIVE ME BACK MY BEER!” from ‘Future War.’

One of the Gamera movies has a shot of a phone ringing, and Crow says ‘I knew it was going to ring, that’s why I put the camera on it. Good planning.’

I can’t remember which episode, but the phone rings loudly, and Joel and the bots all yell from surprise, adding ‘Don’t do that!’

  42. I used to have Torgo’s theme as my ringtone. Once I forgot to turn it off during church and of course someone called me. My daughter had a hard time not laughing through the rest of the service.

Right now I have the Love theme as my main ringtone.

I would like “Sodium” for a ringtone, as well as “Where O Werewolf”

And all the Poopie Suit jokes. Yes, I have immature teenagers.

I have the Master Ninja Theme Song as my ringtone. Hearing it go off always makes me smile, which is great because I hate phones otherwise. I keep waiting for the day someone hears it and actually knows where it’s from.

I also have a couple clips from the Secret Agent Super Dragon song for my alert sounds. If someone leaves me a voicemail, it says, “Wai-wait a minute, you mean it just goes on like that?” And if I get a text it says, “WITH BOATS BRM-BRM-BRRRM-BRRRRM!” And yes, I am giggling to myself right now just thinking about it, because I am a ridiculous human being.
