Jean Jackson Originals Up for Auction

You may recall our friend. longtime MSTie and painter Jean Jackson passed away a while back. Her family has decided that her original paintings — and some other items — should go to the MSTies who would enjoy them most.

That’s why they’ve set up a charity auction of all her work and other miscellaneous items including DVDs of MST3K movies (many unopened), and full-sized props of Crow, Servo and Gypsy. Beginning base price for all paintings is $250. Props vary from $50-$150. Movies vary from $3-$75. The shipping is free on all items (US only, no international).

All proceeds will go to St Joseph’s Church in Fort Collins, Colorado (Jean’s chosen charity).

Happy bidding!

  2. Got my bid down on “Sunday in the Park…”. But I think they underpriced that Servo and Gypsy.

I can’t afford any of these yet I want to let her family know I still get a thrill seeing her work. She really was talented and her joy really does shine through in her art.

If they don’t all sell and there is a chance of a relisting- I hope we are alerted again. They truly are beautiful.

I wonder what this means about selling prints again sometime in the future?

Also, I don’t see Night Mads in the list. That’s the one I want but I suspect when listed it will contend for highest value and be out of my price range.

It would be so awesome to have one of those paintings. Unfortunately for me, I can’t afford one right now.

Had thought the print was one of the coolest things I have ever seen, but the sizing seemed much too small to display… Well I splurged and purchased “ah crow”. It is sorrying to consider that the artist’s passing is what made it available though. Thank you Jean Jackson. I will cherish it.

I have a print of Gamera at the Vet she sent me as a thank you for promoting her work. I’m SO tempted to pick up the original. Damn I miss her :(

Would that I had the money for one of them. Perhaps if they are re-listed in the future.

I picked up “Mike Descending Staircase”. I love the colors and it will look great in my house. It’s sad that it was the last painting she ever did.

I picked up ‘The Hoot Players’, which is a goof on ‘The Lute Players’ by Maxfield Parrish. (I may try to preserve the auction pictures somewhere because it seems like there are no hi-res versions of the paintings anywhere online, which is a real shame.)

About 30% of the pictures sold I think, and the rest have been relisted at the smae price. Does anyone know what painting ‘Crow Wood’ – http://www.ebay.com/itm/321122184446 – is spoofing? I love the pic but I can’t work out what it’s riffing off of.

Crow Wood is spoofing a painting called Young Corn by Grant Wood.

I was fortunate to receive about 15 different prints of her work as part of a large trade with her, but I sure wish I was able to afford an original. She will be missed.

I got to see her work in person when she would bring it to meetings of Msties Anonymous of Colorado- a Colorado State University student group dedicated to the fellowship of watching mst together. It was always a pleasure to see her and she was a true fan.

Just received Blue Bot today and it is even finer in person. What a gifted artist and a tremendous loss to the MST community. I feel honored to be able to have this treasure in my home.

I started a gallery to preserve the hi-res images used for the auction here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/simoniker/sets/72157633470228284/ – hopefully nobody will mind! I also discovered extra info on many of the paintings’ inspirations via the Wayback Machine and will gradually update. (Oh, and I picked up ‘Crow Wood’, thanks so much for the ident, mstk3temple.)

There also seems to be 5-10 paintings at least not included in the sale – wonder where they are. May try to add those to the gallery eventually, too.

BTW, the relisted auctions just ended for the second time with two more paintings sold. Unsure what will happen now…

Simoniker> I noticed Night Mads wasn’t in the auction when I first looked and you are saying there are a few more. So did they sell before I looked the first time or are they being held back?

  22. Simoniker says:

Dan in WI: as far as I’m aware, there are at least 5-10 pictures that were not offered and can be seen in her picture list, yep. But I don’t know if they were kept by Jean’s family, had already been sold/given away in her lifetime, or whether more will be put up in the future.

I too wish I could afford to buy a painting. I did not realize she lived just north of me. I attened several Msties Anonymous of Colorado events in 2001/2002 while I was living in Fort Collins. I meet many nice fellow Msties but I am horrible with names, I’m not sure if I meet her but she will be missed by the MST community.
