#49 – As far as I know, I Accuse My Parents was only ever released as a DVD single by Rhino. I don’t think Shout! Factory has rerelased it.

Regarding I ACCUSE MY PARENTS and CAVE DWELLERS

Both are available for digital download from iTunes and are owned by Shout! They just haven’t done a physical re-release yet. SPACE MUTINY however has not been re-released digitally or physically. But the fact that that all three have been featured today bodes well that they will probably get released in a future box set or maybe as Shout! Select titles.

That’s awesome that they added I ACCUSE MY PARENTS back for streaming for Netflix. Check out that spiffy art too, looks like a Shout! Select.

So Space Mutiny, I Accuse My Parents, Werewolf, Cave Dwellers, Final Sacrifice, all capped off with… MITCHELL. I’ve gotta say, that’s just about perfect. Also, Joel said “this year’s marathon”, so I hope this means it’ll be back next year.

Considering that they’ve gotten at least 20,000-plus views and MST3k was trending on Twitter, I’d find it hard to believe Shout wouldn’t do this again next year.

next year I’d like to see ads for Shout Factory stuff where the breaks are. I like commercial breaks left intact for pacing, and commercial sign leading to a promo for Ultraseven would be amazing.

    And thanks Shout! Factory, too.

And okay, I would have liked to have seen ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE make the list, but I still loved the selection of episodes. (And I didn’t even feel as sad as I sometimes do when watching Joel’s last episode–because Joel was there, of course. And it was wonderful to see Servo and Crow there with him at the end.)

And thanks, Joel, for suggesting people STAY HOME on Black Friday. You are pure class!

That was a phenomenal marathon. I loved seeing Tom and Crow come to eat dinner with Joel. I sincerely hope they do one next year. With the success this one got there’s no reason to not do one.

A great selection. Really made my day. Anyone else get red eyed when he turned to join servo and crow at the table? (okay, okay, I wept like a tot)

Ok. They seriously need to capitalize on this nice bit of exposure. 13,000+ people watching the stream. #1 trend on Twitter (or close to it) for a good chunk of the night.
This was probably the first big signal in a long time as to how popular the show still is and how broad the appeal is.

I hope to god either Jim came to his senses tonight and calls Joel about doing a reunion, or some TV exec saw enough to peak his/her interest, or SOMETHING. Something has to come of this. Its too god not to.

    Also just want to say:

Joel did such a great job!

The closing bit with Crow and Servo was perfection. Chills-inducing and one of my all-time favorite moments as a MSTie.
He was so gracious and complimentary of Mike – from choosing 3 Mike eps to his kind words about the job he did as host.
    Incorporating Cambot.

I loved it. Truly – one of the best MST3K events ever.

Thanks so much to Joel and Shout Factory!

  29. Servo and Crow coming to the table with Joel, wordless, so simple, yet at the same time so wonderful. Watching it I had the biggest, goofiest grin on my face and, I won’t lie, I got a bit misty.

Great marathon, thanks again to Shout! Factory and to Joel, thanks for showing us how to laugh, and how to love, one more time.

Did anyone start having a lot of issues with the stream about halfway through? It was working flawlessly for me until the pool bar scene in Werewolf and then just froze and would keep repeating one of the riffs about the guy’s hair changing. I rebooted all my devices and oddly it would still stay on either the pool scene or when Paul is “transforming” and just keep cutting back and forth to a black screen. After that the only way to get it to work was by rewinding at least 2-5 minutes behind wherever the stream was currently at.

Anyways, that was absolutely amazing, we didn’t have cable/satellite back when the show was still on CC so this was a real treat, my first official Turkey Day marathon. Great host segments, excellent episode selection and what an ending. :)

@SATURN2 I was streaming from Shout’s site and the YouTube channel, oh wells.

Hope they do this again next year. As said before it was impressive how big this trended, hopefully someone savvy with the proper resources who really gets it was observing.

  33. What a great moment for all MST fans. I never thought I would see a Turkey Day marathon and I hope it becomes a new tradition as I thought this one went off with great aplomb. I missed the final bumpers due to starting the arathon late and the live stream cut off at the beginning of Final Sacrifice. Joel’s choices were awesome. He picked three of Mike’s best and the selections of his episodes were surprising. Cave Dwellers was one I thought he would do. But Mitchell and I Accuse My Parents were wonderful choices.

Here’s hoping next year brings a new set and marathon. Thank you Shout Factory for getting us and doing this. And thank you Joel for being Joel and creating this amazing show that will never die.

    Love live MST3k

I saw the marathon on YouTube. The picture started to be a bit choppy, but once the chatroom got stopped from being overloaded, the picture was fine. I had to leave for family stuff less than half way through “Space Mutiny”, and got back in time for the start of the movie part of “Cave Dwellers”, watching the rest of the marathon till the end.

Since the Joel parts were shorter than the commercial breaks in the original TV showings, the marathon ended a well before midnight (Eastern), giving me a chance to find where “I Accuse My Parents” was on the red bar part of the YT video. So I got to see some of what I missed. Since that ep ended close to midnight, I only saw that one. So, ultimately, I only ended up missing half of “Space Mutiny”, and “Wearwolf”.

I also filled up the morning watching a KTMA on YouTube (Hangar 18), and “The Gunslinger” on VHS (seeing the last 15 minutes of the latter after watching “Parents” tonight).

Also, in case nobody noticed, there was a “Special Thanks” to Jim Mallon at the end of the Turkey Day credits last night. So…yay? Wonder why. Probably had to sign off on the bots appearing briefly.

It was great. Not only did we get #mst3k to trend worldwide on Twitter, but some people also saw #Rowsdower and #Mitchell trending in their regions too. I tried to work on a project while half-watching the marathon but ended up exchanging tweets for most of the shows after Space Mutiny.

As part of helping to get #Rowsdower to trend I came up with a list of “Rowsdower’s Super Powers” and kept them in line with riffs about him during the movie. They proved to be popular enough that I spent all of the final movie creating a list of “Mitchell’s Super Powers.” I gained more followers from doing all that yesterday than I’ve seen all year.

I am not very active on Twitter, and I missed most of the marathon due to being at a house way out in the boonies. But once I got home in time for Mitchell, I started watching the livestream, tweeting Joel and the bots’ funny riffs from it. I got the most faves and RTs for that hour or so, more than I’ve gotten in the rest of my Twitter life. That has to count for something! It was fun to have an interactive component to the marathon, it made it even more of a communal experience. I hope this is an annual event. MITCHELL!

What a fabulous way to spend a Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, as a nightshift worker in a business that never closes, this was my year to work Thanksgiving. While I was able to enjoy most of the marathon, I had to leave for work just after Mitchell started, and now reading the posts I am so sad to learn I missed seeing Joel sit down with the bots. Hoping as was mentioned above that all the bumpers get compiled and posted. Joel is the man, and I’m so glad he was involved in this fun Thanksgiving gift from Shout!

Thanks Joel and Shout! Factory for the 2013 Turkey Day Marathon. This was fun and it was neat to have this available. Having all the episodes on DVD from my recording days, then a transfer to disc, I have had my own personal marathons in the past. This was a nice trip down memory lane in more ways than one.

From SCTV to Feaks and Geeks to MST3K, Shout! Factory has done a wonderful job of packaging and making available faithful collections of great comedy.

    Thank you.

When I saw that I was like, “Meh.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful (otherwise I’d turn into a bitter old man) to Jim for keeping the show alive all those years and for ditching Rhino for Shout which has been a huge boon to the series, but that’s it at this point. It’s time for someone else to take over who will DO SOMETHING with the property other than just tightly sitting on the trademark and reaping the benefits of all that DVD money we so generously and eagerly shell out (hey, I’d gladly give more money if there was something more interesting than just post it notes and T-shirts on a very poorly maintained and virtually dead website to pique my interest). I’d like
nothing better than for someone with a lot of money and resources who really respects and gets what the series is about to make Jim an offer he can’t refuse and just buy the rights.

  50. Jason says:

It always struck me as wrong that Mallon ended up with the sole rights, but I don’t think he’s an obstacle to any MST3K revival. I think it’s more how would you handle the cast when there are in effect two entire sets of them? And you’ve got to have some of them, otherwise it’ll just feel like imitation (those flash cartoons), but try to squeeze them all in and it will no doubt be unwieldy plus no one will end up paid enough to make it worthwhile.

Otherwise, I don’t think it’s any leap at all to make an MST3K “special” every six months to a year, similar to what Rifftrax Live! does or the model BBI was contemplating for future feature films had the initial foray been a smash. It’s only the days of the 24 episode season on cable television that can never be repeatedly. The success of the “spinoffs” proves that you can make this work if you’re willing to toy with the model. There’s just no way to do it without leaving some people out and making many fans pissed.
