RIP Ivo Garrani

GarraniItalian actor Ivo Garrani, whose career in radio, television and film spanned more than 60 years, died March 25. He was 91.
MSTies will recall he played King Pelias in the movie in episode 502- HERCULES and played Re di Megalia in the movie in episode 412- HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN.
There are obituaries for him on the web, but they’re all in Italian.

R.I.P. Ivo Garrani. I thought that his role in Hercules was more interesting than the usual sword and sandal villain. He sacrifices everything to put his son on the throne, only to have him killed by a lion. Then he faces the prospect of seeing his daughter married to the man he used to kill his own brother. He seems relieved when he finally ends it all and takes poison.

That’s crazy — we started watching Hercules (#502) last night! It’s a wonderfully cheesy movie, and he played the part convincingly. (Frank is absolutely right in his introduction; these movies are watchable.)

    RIP, Ivo Garrani.

Sadly, the only thing I recall from the Hercules movies is Ulysses jumping around like a maniac and then chasing some maidens.

I just watched Hercules maybe a day before his passing. :-(

    Rest in peace.

I watched Hercules just the other day. I still couldn’t make heads or tales af what was really going on. Who was that guy in the shadows King Pelias was getting advice from? At first I though he was some supernatural being or something, but then they seem to indicate he was human.

    Short answer: Paul Frees.

OK, that’s not quite useful. As the narration tells us, the ‘shadow guy’ is a convicted killer whom King Pelias saves from execution in order to hire him to kill his brother so Pelias can take the throne.
