  4. I’ve always felt “Tormented” was one of the better movies they did. Hell with a bigger budget, and a more prominent director at the helm (like, say Hitchcock?), it could have been a classic horror/suspense film.

I don’t think Satellite News reported it, but The Pumaman is the latest episode to get the annotated treatment.

I was just yesterday thinking about how easily Tormented could be a Hitchcock movie. A slow-burn suspense thriller with pitch-black humor, supernatural overtones, and a buxom blonde getting murdered… very Hitchcockian. He would have left the ending more vaugue, though. Is Vi really haunting Tom, or is he just hallucinating from guilt?

Just imagine basically the same movie with ten times the budget, a topnotch cast (Jimmy Stewart as Tom Stewart?) a Bernard Herrman score, and maybe a slick Saul Bass title sequence. Keep Mr BIG’s excellent optical effects.

Tormented is definitely in my top 10 ever episodes, and maybe it’s because the movie is actually kind of watchable instead of the normal incoherent nonsense that J/M & the bots watched.

That brings to 38 the number of MST3K episodes on ShoutFactory TV. Two and a half days solid of MST3K.

Let’s watch! It’ll be like a pre-Turkey Day marathon! Starting with First Spaceship on Venus, and plenty of robot foam!
