Weekend Discussion Thread: MST3K Trivia You Thought Was Hard But It’s Not

Mark suggests:

As an example, name the only host segment ever shot outdoors. (Answer: the “sylvan glen” moment from episode 816- PRINCE OF SPACE. Every single one of you knew that, didn’t you?)

The stumper I used to use, which I have more recently discovered most MSTies have no problem with, it turns out, was: What was the name of the cocker spaniel (sadly, he has since “gone to live at a big farm”) featured in episode 904- WEREWOLF, and who also appears in the ACEG?

You all know that one, don’t you? See? The hard ones aren’t that hard anymore.

Do you have one like that? And can you think of REAL hard ones?

@ #31: Air bag helmet if you’re counting Robot Vs. Aztec Mummy as the first. Electric bagpipe if you’re counting Crawling Eye as the first.

Actually, I was thinking of the Chiropractic Helmet, as shown during the original pilot. (Although, in the pilot, both the S.O.L. and the robots count, I suppose.)

What professional athelete was a guest star on the show? In which episode? And what was his name in the episode?

Has nobody really answered this one? Robert Smith, player for the Minnesota Vikings played Howard the hunk who was Pearl’s gift from the apes for Lawgiver Daze at the end of episode “Mole People”. And I don’t even follow football.

#25I believe I’m seeing Joe Turkel from Tormented and Gary Lockwood from The Magic Sword as the answers.

You’re right! Turkel was in two experiments, Tormented and Village of the Giants. I was actually thinking of William Sylvester, who was in Devil Doll and Riding With Death. (I forgot he was in Gorgo, so that makes him a three timer.) He was Dr. Floyd in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I forgot Gary had a small uncredited role in Kitten With A Whip. So I tip my hat to you. :)

But should it really count since it never aired? Not to mention how it clearly contradicts how Joel ended up in space.

Well, I did say it was tricky.

Gobi: A train is a major plot point in “The Beatniks”. Then there’s the heartwarming “Why don’t they look?” short.

I think you might mean “The Rebel Set.” Either that or you and I have very different conceptions of “major plot point” – we might see a train pass by while Mooney’s walking the streets or something in “The Beatniks,” but that’s all I can recall.

On the other hand, a never-seen train does serve as a plot device in “Gunslinger” (1956).

You’re right, I got them mixed up, just like those mixed up kids from the 50s.

Ray Dunakin: I believe that would be Delores Faith. She was the blind gal in “Human Duplicators” and the mute girl in “Phantom Planet”.

She was also deaf during her childhood. Another fun fact: she was carried around by Richard Kiel in both movies. The only thing missing is that I’ve never heard of her being carried around by a young Richard Kiel while she was deaf, but I choose to believe it happened anyway.

Leslie Parrish was Ev Kester (who was hittin’ the BOOZE agin!) in “Giant Spider Invasion” and was Lt. Something or Other in the Star Trek episode, “Who Mourns for Adonais?” You know, the one about the guy who was the last of the Greek gods and he falls in love with her and makes her dress in ancient Greek duds and wants her to stay with him forever and gets really p.o.’d with Kirk and threatens the Enterprise, and you know the rest. He just fades away at the end. Kind of sad, really.

Sorry for the 2nd post, but it always puzzled me that J&tB didn’t seem to know who she was. In the opening credits for GSI they referred to her as “unknown guest star”. Surely some of the crew must have recognized her from Star Trek, or as Daisy Mae in “Lil’ Abner” or from “The Manchurian Candidate” as Jocelyn the woman Laurence Harvey marries and then murders while in his brain-washed trance. Did they think it would all be too obscure? When was that ever a problem?

Wow, everyone who’s seen “Who mourns Adonis?” remembers it. I think the actor who played Apollo was in an MST’d movie. Not sure which.

According to IMDB Michael Forest who played Apollo has an uncredited role in The Deadly Mantis.
