Weekend Discussion Thread: MST3K Trivia You Thought Was Hard But It’s Not

Mark suggests:

As an example, name the only host segment ever shot outdoors. (Answer: the “sylvan glen” moment from episode 816- PRINCE OF SPACE. Every single one of you knew that, didn’t you?)

The stumper I used to use, which I have more recently discovered most MSTies have no problem with, it turns out, was: What was the name of the cocker spaniel (sadly, he has since “gone to live at a big farm”) featured in episode 904- WEREWOLF, and who also appears in the ACEG?

You all know that one, don’t you? See? The hard ones aren’t that hard anymore.

Do you have one like that? And can you think of REAL hard ones?

Wild Rebels and “Fats”. Now the real question is who would you rather run into in a dark alley, the thugs from Wild Rebels or Santa and his overworked elves from A Christmas Story?

It was a University of Wisconsin shirt that Mike wore at the beginning of MST3K:TM. And the show’s first negative review came after Ep 112, “Untamed Youth.” Gore Zone was the magazine, and among other things, they complained that Joel & TB talked over Eddie Cochran’s only song in the movie.

When I won the big Sci-Fi Mindprobe trivia contest waaaaay back, I missed only one question: Where was Castle Forrester located?

To be fair, I had just started college in an area that didn’t carry Comedy Central, so I wasn’t caught up on the new show mythology yet.

I did, however, get the question that knocked most everyone else out: What was Joel doing when the Satellite of Love launched?

(Questions are paraphrased as they were asked almost twenty years ago… apologies for inconsistencies. I’m sure someone has fastidiously written them down somewhere in the internet. :-D )

A UW-Stout shirt, to be exact. It’s in the University system but the big one is UW-Madison. UW-Stout is located in Menomonie, not far from the Minnesota border.

Hmm, I’m guessing it was Gregory Peck, who has one Best Actor Oscar but also a ton of other awards, including a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, an AFI Life Achievement Award, a National Medal of Arts, and even a US postage stamp.

I think the next runner-up would be Gene “He’s good in anything” Hackman, who has two Oscars.

@ #31: Air bag helmet if you’re counting Robot Vs. Aztec Mummy as the first. Electric bagpipe if you’re counting Crawling Eye as the first.

Well, I was thinking Gene Hackman, but I forgot Eastwood because he was in “Return of the Creature.” Those two, and Peck, are right.
Now here is a tough one: what actress has appeared in two movies, one without sight, the other without a voice?

Does “role” just mean actors, or can it include crew members too? Because I’m pretty sure John Williams, who wrote the score to Daddy-O (and Jaws, Star Wars, E.T., etc.), has won more awards than anyone else who had anything to do with a MSTed movie.

I believe that would be Delores Faith. She was the blind gal in “Human Duplicators” and the mute girl in “Phantom Planet”.

A train is a major plot point in “The Beatniks”. Then there’s the heartwarming “Why don’t they look?” short.

The answers to my question from yesterday are:
‘Untamed Youth’, episode 112, and the review came from the September 1990 issue of Gorezone magazine. They called MST3K “the most insulting blow to (the Comedy Channel’s) viewership. Here we are, 26 years later and MST is still going strong and Gorezone has faded into obscurity.
