I’m only part way through the set, but I must say, the extras are quite extensive! Mary Jo gives in-depth intros, and the two docs I’ve watched so far are really good. Gives me a deeper appreciation for Party Beach, as well as an explanation on why Neptune Men is so painful!

I’ve gone through the whole box set already. Great episodes and great extras. Unfortunately, on the MST3K Hour wraps, the intro to the second wrap, the one with the recap, is missing. Other than that, another amazing set.

The new set plus bonus disk is already selling for $149.00 on ebay. It is still available from Shout Factory (with bonus disk) for the regular price.

Awesome set, and another stellar set of bonus features! It’s too bad about the missing wrap segment. Maybe the master they had was missing it?

Also, I could listen to August Ragone talk for hours. I’ve met him a few times, and he’s an awesome dude. Anyone who hast read his book Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters needs to remedy that.

I sometimes think MST3K fans are the most spoiled fans on the planet.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And I must echo the praise regarding August Ragone. The man is a machine.

That may sound like an odd compliment, but I’m pretty sure he will dig it.

Praise Bob Shout!, who who shoots and scores again.

I noticed that too about about the missing MST Wrap. Great set otherwise. I was wondering if the original got lost when Shout acquired the Best Brains archive or got damaged. Or they just forgot to omit it. Lost sounds most likely.

Just today I watched MST3K‘s presentation of The Day the Earth Froze. Very strange movie.

I think there was an audio issue for Invasion of the Neptune Men. The sound was only coming out of the left speaker. Anyone else experience this?

Shout has verified the missing clip from the MST3K Hour Wrap was a mistake.

I read the book. How do I remedy that? Thou hast read it, too, forsooth. :-)

  13. Can’t wait to see the “Horror of Party Beach” featurette. It’s always been my desert island episode but we know so little about it. I did read that it was one of Stephen Kings’ favourite movies. Explains a lot!

Did Shout mention anything about doing a replacement disk program for the missing MST Wrap segment? It’s probably too early to tell. Or might not happen since it’s only a minute long segment.

In “Horror of Party Beach”, I’ve always been kind of surprised that they never made any comment about how much the girl at the beginning (Tina) sounds like JFK.

I was very sad about the missing wrap when I came across it on my set.

I will happily forgive them for their honest mistake, BUT PLEASE, SHOUT, MAKE IT AVAILABLE AS AN UNCOMPRESSED MPEG 2 DOWNLOAD. No need to reissue a replacement disk; a DVD-quality download of the missing 1 minute would only be about 50 mb, I’d guess, and it’s not like that 1 minute has all that much intrinsic value without the actual episode and the other 3 Hour segments, so it’s not like they’d be giving away the farm.

It might be fun if Shout! included the “lost/missing” hour wrap on the next or a later volume, along with a Ballyhoo parody mini-documentary on what happened.

Plus, consider the limited edition action figure promo possibilities…

“This is a 3D printout of Jeremy. He’s the DVD tech who made the error. Notice his frown and general ineptitude at the time the body scan was performed.”

The documentary would reveal it wasn’t just Jeremy, but a perfect storm of quality control mishaps had to occur for it to make it through the rigorous filtering process. Several were asleep at the wheel. But Jeremy created the anomaly by omission.

    Instant legendary lemonade from lemons.

I would put Jeremy right next to Gypsy, beneath my monitor, to always remind me that no one is perfect.

    Not even Shout.

Actually I’d also thought it would be great idea if Ballyhoo did a short featurette on the MST Hour. How the concept came together, what Jack Perkins thought of the parody, etc. When I watch the clips and the credits start to roll, I always wonder if Mike’s antics in the background were scripted or they just let the camera roll and said, “Hey, Mike – just do something squirrelly.”

  19. I wonder if the “Party Beach” documentary offers any kind of explanation for Elaine’s moaning bit towards the end of the film. :-P

If nothing else, it provided a great “awkward” moment for M&TB.

The Return to Horror Beach short leaves out one bit of info; why was Alice Lyon (Elaine) dubbed? According to IMDB, this was her only credit. Anyone know?

That piece of information was left on the cutting room floor. It was revealed to me that she was dubbed because her accent and the pitch of her voice.

I remember when Shout left off the MST Hour segments for Viking Women and Colossal Beast, they said they would post them to shoutfactorytv.com. Did that ever happen? I can’t find them there now.

Anyone have any insight to why some episodes are notavailable on itunes or vudu? None of last volumes movies are there. And only some of previous volumes.

Got Volume XXXVII early this week, with Shout! bonus. Watched all four movies this weekend- It was a Holiday. To see each so pristine (compared to my VHS to DVD copies)- I was very pleased with Invasion of the Neptune Men. I was ready for pain and the only pain I felt was a sore jaw from laughter. Again, thanks Shout!, J and M&TB- it made me laugh, it made me cry.. NOW- When are the Volume XXXVIII episodes going to be announced? November 22nd?
