Weekend Discussion Thread: The MSTie ‘Abbey Road’ Cover

This one is very silly but fun. Alert regular Timmy says:

I was looking at the Beatles Abbey Road album cover and thought, who four MSTed movie characters would you pick to be crossing the road?
Mine: Commander Jansen, The Soultaker, Steve (from ‘This Island Earth’) and Troy. What would yours be?

Rowsdower, The Master, The She-Creature and Winky.

What’s yours?

Having reached Social Security age, I’ll go with the old timer version: Hugo the doomed janitor from Earth Versus Spider; exploding wife from Clonus; long winded inventor from Cave Dwellers; and Sybil from Magic Sword (which should make Crow happy).

    Slightly outside of MSTed characters:

The Circus of Dr. Lao –

Dr. Lao, The Abominable Snowman, Merlin the Magician, and Apollonius of Tyana.
    (It’s Joel’s favorite movie)

You’d really need a Sgt. Pepper’s-style cover to do MST justice. That said, seems like a no-brainer version would be Torgo, Trumpy, Rowsdower, and Big McLargehuge.

Personally, I might go for Ator, Mr. B Natural, Mitchell, and Johnny Longbow, with the bonus fifth Beatle role taken by Sam Casey (he’s invisible!).

Nick from “Hobgoblins”, The “Hi-Keeba Guy”, Watney Smith, followed by “The Creeping Terror” I’m crossing my fingers Watney trips up causing the other two to fall so “The Creeping Terror” can eat them.

How about a shorts-style Abbey Road cover featuring Commando Cody, Old Timer Billy Slater, Bela Lugosi from The Phantom Creeps (which, by the way, would simplify everything), and Mr. B. Natural.

    Hmmm…

Torgo, Mr. B, Gamera and Pitch.

    Or, for the juvenile version…

Lupita, Kenny, One of the Martian kids from SCCTM, and Tommy from “Pod People”.

    Or, for the kaiju version…

Gamera, Godzilla, Gorgo and the Giant Gila Monster.

And the VW Beetle with the 28 IF license plate would be replaced with Megaweapon, of course.

Great WDT idea! So many lovely possibilities spring to mind.

I’d be happy with an all-Manos version: The Master, Debbie, Margaret, and Torgo.

For an all-female one: Creepy Girl, Vicky from The Deadly Bees in her fur coat (“A bear!!”), Lea Jansen, and Silver Morgan.

I’d go with four musicians: the “ah-so” drummer from Jimmy Bryant’s band, the Chip-from-My-Three-Sons bass player from the Del Aires, the Fish-Lipped Guy on guitar, and, of course, Arch Hall Jr. on vocals.

You could do this season by season as well:

    KTMA
Leslie Nielsen from City on Fire, Tom Selleck from Superdome, Burgess Meredith from The Last Chase, and a puppet from Invaders from the Deep

    Season 1
The Aztec Mummy, Ro-Man from Robot Monster, avocado guy from Robot Holocaust, and one of the Slime People

    Season 2
Lloyd Bridges from Rocketship X-M, the Jungle Goddess, the goofy agent from Catalina Caper, and Godzilla (or at least one of his feet)

    Season 3
Ator, Trumpy, Santa Claus, and Fugitive Alien’s Ken as he eyes a suspicious forklift parked in the background

    Season 4
Loukhy the Witch from The Day the Earth Froze, Hercules from any given Hercules movie, one of the the Eye Creatures, and of course, Torgo

    Season 5
Eegah, Mitchell, the closet thing carrying Jan from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, and Mikey from Teenage Strangler (with or without a stolen bike)

    Season 6
The Beast Javorski from The Beast of Yucca Flats, Griffin from Red Zone Cuba, El Santo from Samson Vs. the Vampire Women, and the Creeping Terror (if the other three guys on the album cover can walk at a brisk pace, there shouldn’t be any problem)

    Season 7
Blood Beast from Night of the Blood Beast, the Creeper from The Brute Man, Troxartis from Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell, and the Incredible Melting Man (who can’t help but make a big mess all over the street)

    Season 8
The Gillman from Revenge of the Creature, Gideon carrying his head from The Thing That Couldn’t Die, Krankor from Prince of Space, and David Ryder from Space Mutiny (who would be yelling at everyone to “MOVE MOVE MOVE” across the street)

    Season 9
Paul as the werewolf from Werewolf, Rowsdower from The Final Sacrifice, a golf cart full of Hobgoblins, and Vadinho carrying Tony from The Puma Man (because our hero can’t do anything himself)

    Season 10
Merlin from Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders, the monster from Blood Waters of Dr. Z, Johnny Longbow from Track of the Moon Beast, and Diabolik

I’d like to see the Abbey Road cover, Spy Version:

Neil Connery would lead the way, hypnotizing people on the sidewalk as he crosses.
Fart Bargo would be the Ringo of the group, dapper but still just Ringo.
Next would be Secret Agent Super Dragon, barefoot because he had just finished up a practice session of feigning death and didn’t have time to put on his shoes.
Adam Chance would bring up the rear, wearing a tan cardigan and sensible loafers, fudging on out of the photo shoot as fast as possible.

Torgo, Merlin from Santa Claus, and Hal Moffett from The Brute Man, all being “chased” by The Creeping Terror. It would take forever for this guys to get across.

Alternately, Krankor and three of the Chickens of Tomorrow, so we can learn just why a chicken crosses the road.

Hugo the Devil Doll – “I’m too busy to sign autographs! No more fan mail after this date! Anyway, peace and love, peace and love”
Midget Hup – Gor (That’s the name they gave him. I already told Billy Barty)
Pepe – Time of the Apes. Kinda looks like George.
Timoteo the dwarf – Of “They’ve got Smores!” fame

Here come the Beards… and I say it’s alright.

Crenshaw – “Well Cousin’, the dead Paul looks jus’ like the live one.”
Pipper – “Oooooooh I knew your previous drummer I did. He drums for the Ziox now…..ooooooooh”
Merlin – “Ohhhh Ms Ono…..you fine”

I’d do a tribute to our favorite scrawny, weak-willed teens/young adults. Get us Troy, Jimmy, Mikey, and Danny all walking in a row, helplessly shuffling along and wringing their hands without the movies’ protagonists [or, in Jimmy’s case, antagonists] to hold their hand and guide them through their scrawny, weak-willed lives.

Tony can be the one behind the camera.

There could be a version including the monster from Monster a Go Go in the Paul McCartney role. The cover, and other covers and songs, would offer there-is-no-monster clues to keep fans occupied for hours! Or maybe minutes…

In Come Together: “One and one and one is three / he don’t look like no monster to me”

In the start of Paul’s part in A Day In The Life (Sgt. Pepper), when there’s a mumble heard as the alarm rings. Listening closely, it’s the astronaut mumbling, “I’m fine”. Also, the alarm sound is the fake phone ringing part of the movie.

    etc… etc… etc…

Hey, K01 and K02 were released to Kickstarter backers!!!! ;-)

Off topic, but yeah, really exciting. Honestly I’ve watched just a few of the KTMAs over the years, but especially getting to see the very first ep is big news! Definitely a date for the MSTory books!

Don’t know if this would a worthy WDT in coming weeks, since many may not have got the bonus episodes, but it sure would be a fun topic for some discussion. What do you think of them? What glimmers of the greatness that was to become of MST3k do you see? Missed riffs–let’s face it, there is not a whole lot of riffing going on–might be fun, too. After all, it will be a looong time before these come into the weekly rotation.

I personally have only made it about halfway through K01 yet, but the “Supermarionation” films are fun, and it’s kinda “meta” to see the puppets riffing on the puppets. :-?
