Welcome to Satellite News: The Next 20 Years!May 5th, 2017, marks our twentieth anniversary of bringing you Mystery Science Theater 3000 information. And with a new season of the show being carried on Netflix, we thought it was time to freshen things up around here a bit. This is the result.
This refreshed look is a work in progress and will evolve as time goes on. So take a look around, kick the tires, and let us know what you think. Hopefully, it retains the feel of the old layout while giving it a slightly more modern, sleeker appearance, just as the show has done on Netflix. Oh, and we mentioned a few weeks ago that we would soon be implementing a registration feature on the site. Its definitely am improvement, but the always visible left hand menu is really ugly on mobile. It would be better as a collapsible menu (see: most mobile sites). Ideally there would be a separate style sheet for mobile. Also, all pages should use the same stylesheets.
The tires are OK, but that nose wheel feels mushy.
Ok, all registered. Wasn’t too bad, though 12 characters is a bit long for a minimum password length.
I just logged in with Facebook, because, well, lazy (although I miss not being able to put my “Ex-Genius” in my name, because that’s far more descriptive).
Click on the link under Leave a Reply that says “Logged in as…” That will take you to your Profile page where you can change your Nickname and Display Name As settings. There are several other customization settings that you can change.
Ehhh, not by today’s standards. I was confused and even shocked once earlier this year when some site I was creating an account on told me the probably 15-or-so-character password I was trying to set was too long. Although perhaps one could argue one needn’t keep one’s account on Satellite News as secure as one would for, say, online banking, but it’s a good general habit.
Well, there. Now I’m all shiny and registered. I think I’ll give a Roxy “WHEEEE!” (which would be more effective if I were riding in a dune buggy).
True enough, but most of the sites I use have an 8 character minimum. It wasn’t difficult to come up with a password that long but it’s unusual in my experience.
Thanks, that worked (I think). But it’s a bit annoying to not have an option to log in automatically each time I visit (as it does on every single other site I’ve ever visited, even including things which aren’t forums).
Geez, why didn’t they just SAY it was a WordPress based system? Couldn’t use the original, since I’d registered with an old WordPress blog years ago (think it was some writing blog, or Roger Ebert’s, can’t recall), and on an old e-mail address, so I couldn’t retrieve the password. Oh well, at least the new name says that you can’t duplicate perfection. :)
I think this worked. I too was lazy and just registered via FaceBook.
The next time you log in, check the “Remember Me” box. This should prevent you from having to log in every time.
Yes, thanks, that did work (sorry, but this old man is just WAY too lazy to have to log in each time ).
So — overall just fine. That was one of the lesser pains in terms of a forum transition.
