In interviews, Joel said he picked re-riffing Eegah because he “didn’t want to approach it the way we colored it”.

CT re-riffing Santa Claus Conquers the Martians was simply about needing a PD title, but I’m curious what Joel thought was the “wrong” direction for the original Eegah–Yes, the Arch Hall Jr. and Roxy-whine riffs may have taken off pretty thick in the original (although Pie-face deserved a few of them), but it still ended up being one of their classics.
At least, unlike, ahem, some touring revisits of old PD MST3K territory, he’s setting out to try and accomplish something different, and rather than fall back on the tours, he says he’s hoping to test S12 material.
(And yep, Northampton MA ends up snubbed again for the bright lights of Boston–Only got two CT tours there, and jokes about the one-main-street sleepy college-town both times.)
Actually, you misquote the article. Here is the actual quote: “But he hasn’t revisited the show’s original take (“I didn’t want it to color the way we approached it”), a decision that’s providing fresh insight into a movie he last made jokes about more than 20 years ago.”
So he’s not revisiting it because he thought the original was wrong, he simply wanted to have a fresh take on it now.

Still, that one wasn’t too bad, and nice to see he’s mixing the problems of live-touring with a chance at keeping the onscreen Return going, rather than all one or the other.
Kickstarter backers will get the info tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s a code or special link or what.
Zero shows in or really near Florida or Texas, and some jackass is complaining about having to drive from Northampton, MA to Boston, MA…
Soooooo… pretty much EEGAH?, huh? It would be funny if the “Secret Surprise Movie” was Also EEGAH!, but that would be a burn on people who paid for two shows on the same night. I’d guess the “Surprise” one is probably an old, b & w (PD) movie, which Joel prefers, i.e. “Spooks Run Wild” or “The Mad Magician”,et als., which would be a change of pace for the Jonah-crew; Q: Are we approaching the saturation point for riffing? I’d say not yet… unless we see Paul Chaplin, Beez McKeever and Patrick Brantseg start touring as “The Riff Busters” (who am I kidding? I’d love to see that…)
I must admit- I’m intrigued. They got Jonah, Rebecca, and hopefully Hampton and Baron (it says the bots are going to be there but they could just be pre-recorded like Felicia and Patton probably are). I wonder what the surprise movie is, though I admit it probably is a PD movie they had as an alternate in case they couldn’t get the rights for something this season.
What I’d really like to see is an MST3K mall tour- could you even imagine that?
Back in the carefree days of aught 7/early aught 8 we had Cinematic Titanic, RiffTrax and The Bots are Back. AND WE LIKED IT! Well, except for The Bots are Back. And a certain poster here didn’t like RiffTrax.
How disappointing that there are no Texas appearances. I thought for sure they would hit the Paramount in Austin where Cinematic Titanic played to an enthusiastic packed house. Sigh…

Yep. I knew there wouldn’t be any shows in my area (central Florida) despite it being the number one tourist destination in the world. Still, I am holding out hope they will tape at least ONE of these and release it later.
Phoenix in July is positively DISGUSTING, but man I’ll drive up there to see the live show.
What am I saying, Tucson is disgusting in July, too. But Phoenix is MORE disgusting.
Well, if MST can make a comeback maybe malls can too!

The Keswick is a bit of a drive for me, but I can do it. It was also the venue for CT’s last live show, the double feature of “The Wasp Woman” and “The Doll Squad”, with “The Frank” as a special feature. I’ll try for a $40 seat; I can’t imagine what the $300 seats gets you.
Oh, and I second the request to please record this at some point. Preserve the humor!
I have a feeling there will be a DVD of either one of the shows on the tour or a compendium of the best of the entire tour – Lord knows Shout Factory will be jonesing for new product once they finally run out of MST3K episodes to box up and/or Rhino sets to reissue.
Personally, I’m down for this tour, mainly because a) I think it’ll be a ton of fun and b) it’ll be nice to see the fellas (assuming Hampton and Baron do the tour as well) hone their “riffing together chemistry” chops as things go on.
EricJ really contorts himself to laud Joel and Company for re-doing Eegah and is cool with him riding the whole Watch Out For Snakes running joke into the ground.
(God Forbid if it’s Rowsdower/Big McLargeHuge.)

A live tour! Whoo-hoo! A chance to see Joel live has swung my way, plus the new cast. Sae CT back in 2010, so I’ll be stoked for this.
I REALLY wish though they’d try to re-do some if the films they did at Ktma and season 1. Why does it seem they’re avoiding those like the plague?
Has anyone heard of a next season?

All we’ve heard is what Joel said In yesterday’s update, which was that Netflix hasn’t told them anything yet. But Netflix generally takes 6-8 weeks to renew a show, so we’re still in the regular timeframe.
Exactly. I couldn’t justify driving to Pensacola to see the Mads free show, so a road trip to Atlanta is not really going to happen.
Do you even have to ask? It would be sheer, unabashed hypocrisy like usual. God, hitting that little red X on his comments feels so good. I do wish I could have permanent ignore set for him though.
Also, for people in Texas/Florida: Joel has said if they get enough requests they may add more dates to other locations. Make sure to ask on FB/Twitter if they would consider coming to your area. I’ve already seen a bunch of requests on the FB pages for them to do some Texas dates. It certainly couldn’t hurt to ask!
Just got my ticket to the 10PM show at the Keswick. That gives me enough time to get there and get settled in without having to rush. It’s towards the back, which I could afford. And I paid the extra for ticket insurance.
Now, watch, they’ll announce an additional show at some venue just across town from my house.
Just bought my Phoenix ticket. Note to others considering buying tickets to this show: the “buy ticket” link in the site Joel’s email sends you to does not appear to work. You need to search for the MST show in the Phoenix Convention Center’s web site to find a working “buy ticket” link.

At first, I thought the closest they’d get to me would be Washington, D.C., and I’d have to give it a miss. Even an MST3K Live Tour wouldn’t be worth inching up I-95 to Springfield and catching a train on the decaying Metro system (to say nothing of the trip back at some ungodly hour). Then near the bottom, I see that they make a stop in Richmond, which is both closer and has more reasonable traffic. Already got myself orchestra level seats.
I don’t mind that you got Eight “likes” from your reply (Nine, with mine)…but I got -0- “likes!” Suddenly, I understand how Jim Mallon feels…:(
Can I just say that “convenience fees” on show tickets that are an additional 25-33% of the ticket price are an insult to all humankind? I mean, really. I know it’s not the MST folks’ fault, I’m railing at industry practice here. But seriously.

I went through the kickstarter link at 10 am and looked for 2 tickets at the State Theater in Minneapolis. It added over 39 dollars onto the 99 dollar face value. I decided my hatred for being bilked out of hard earned dinero outweighed my love of MST.
However, all was not lost. Both times Rifftrax did their show from the State Theater I was able to buy tickets directly at the box office using the backer code. I called the theater and asked if the kickstarter backer tickets were available in person, and they were! I ended up buying 3 tickets for both shows and had the satisfaction of depriving ticketmaster of over 100 dollars of their ill-begotten gains all for 75 cents at a parking meter and a 10 minute walk to the theater.
The person saying it was 99 dollars at Minneapolis had faulty info. Single tickets were available for 39.50 and 49.50.
Oh man, I wish I had thought to try that with the Milwaukee show at the Pabst. Nicely done.

Wait……….it’s actually still possible to avoid ALL (or some, or most) of the add-on “service fees” by purchasing tickets at a theater’s box office ???
I thought most (if not all) box offices long ago learned there was absolutely nothing stopping them from tacking on the same (or similar) ticket “fees”, even if somebody goes through the hassle of actually schlepping down to physically purchase them there.
Please………I would LOVE to hear from anyone, and/or everyone who knows if “service fees” are still tacked on to tickets actually bought at a theater’s box office. And if they do, are they the exact same “fees” that are charged when those tickets are purchased online, or are they at least partly (or mostly) avoided when buying them at the ‘source’ ?
OR, is it something that depends on the particular box office, and that the tacking on of “service fees” varies from venue to venue across the country ?

Not very practical if you don’t live in or very near the city where the theater is, though. I would also worry about them selling out if you didn’t get on it soon enough.
The ticketing site I landed on had the default number of tickets to purchase set to 2 (which was what I wanted, so it was OK). Maybe Buster didn’t notice that was the case?
After tickets are bought, are they mailed to you?
That raises an interesting question. What is the seating capacity at the MST tour stop near you? State Theater is 2100+ so I guess I wasn’t too concerned about it being sold out. I got to their ticket window around 3 pm, and still had an OK seat.
As for SaveFerris’s question, I don’t know about other theaters but I definitely only paid the printed ticket price of 49.50 each. I was able to buy 3 tickets for each show in person for about the same cost as 2 tickets online. I also had the satisfaction of putting the old perforated, non-virtual ticket with stub souvenir in my pocket.
