I’m not complaining about Shout! releasing a season 1 episode. I’m just complaining that they are releasing the WORST (in my opinion) season 1 episode. All i’m saying is: they better release Robot Monster!

My message to Shout! – Keep it comin’ luv! Don’t stop it now, don’t stop it no.

I’ve never seen any of these but they sound good to me. Maybe I’ll see if YouTube has these or maybe I’ll wait to be surprised.

Add my vote for Pumaman for Volume XVI.

And Jack Frost.

And please, can’t I have just one more sacrifice before we go?

I only got through about the 1st 20 threads of whining and complaining about episode choice so maybe this was addressed later but…

EVEN THE WORST MST3K EPSIODE IS BETTER THAN ANY OF THE OTHER CRAP ON TV!!!

I will buy this and all future sets. Thank you sir may I have another!

Well, it’s not as if I don’t get excited about EVERY release, but this one has me REALLY excited. Two expisodes I’ve never seen (zombie & Racket Girls), One that is up there with my all-time favorites out of my VHS copies(Girl In Lovers’ Lane), and then there’s Aztec Mummy which I love and has been like a holy grail of sorts with me because 14 years ago my dumb-ass roommate taped over my copy by accident and ever since they started releasing the DVD’s I’ve been…you know…sort of hoping. Thanks Shout! Factory. Nice job. Keep ’em coming!

Girl In Lover’s Lane is hard to watch. The movie was too good in a way and the ending too depressing to make it great MST3K fodder, even the last sketch in the show focused on that problem. With all the great Joel-era episodes yet to be released, why that one?

I LOVE Robot Vs. Aztec Mummy. Happy to see that one and the Commando Cody short is great material too. Hilarious!

Thanks, Shout Factory. Now, can you please release these sets faster? July is a long way off from the last release.

rbot vs aztec mummy- the short and horst segemtns are really good. the movie is unfunny.
girl in lover’s lane-weakest episode of season 5. racket girls-i always like this one. the movie was goofy and the did a good job riffing and the short was funny. Zombie nightmare. is one of my favories. you have to put all of them out including the bad ones. you have to take the good and the bad. i had a feeling girl in lover’s lane would be on dvd eventually.

I agree with # 58
Girl in Lovers Lane – for me its very easy to watch Big Stupid. Did you know that Brett Halsey who played “big stupid” was the Fly in Return of the Fly and was in movies like Atomic Submarine. He did B movies
Zombie Nightmare is one of my favorite episodes from the Mike era
I still cant believe Adam West was in this movie ! :?:

16. They’re all good choices (it’s hard to make a bad choice) but I do wish they’d push hard on the movies that aren’t in PD or easy to get (maybe that’s happening and they aren’t making much progress :<(

I really hate season 1 (although I have all the rest of the seasons in pristine broadcast quality DVDs I didn’t even bother with season 1) but I kind of like the idea of releasing one from that season each box set so they’ll be available for those folks who really want to see them (for those who aren’t fanatics but just curious — trust me, that season is really, really bad, with the exception I think of The Black Scorpion).

And, as usual, I’ll buy (even though, as I mentioned, I already have them in great condition). Have to support the show somehow, even after all these years.

I’ll buy it, for sure and definite. For me personally none of them are my personal favorites, but I will (& do) own all official release box sets (was too young to get some the single disc releases as I had no job). Ultimately they are all worth it.

The top releases I am still waiting for:
Joel:
The Lost Continent
Any Gamera movies
Fugitive Alien II
Mike:
The Pumaman
Final Sacrifice
Invasion of the Neptune Men

ONE MESSAGE OF DOOM & GLOOM:
I think it was post #20 that said Zombie Nightmare was being released later in the year. While it certainly may not happen, I advocate pre-ordering so if some horrid snafu occurs and the boxed set gets cancelled, you have your set. As someone who owns Godzilla vs Megalon, trust me it can happen. Not trying to alarm anyone or say Shout hasn’t done their homework, I just love the show too much not to get all of these.

WHY ARE THEY RELEASING ANOTHER SEASON ONE EPISODE AGAIN!!!! ( as they released #103 Mad Monster in the 14th volume ). IS IT BECAUSE JIM IS TRYING TO BE A NICE GUY FOR J ELVIS AND TO GET HIM SOME OF THE MONEY WITH THE DVD RIGHTS?? I AGREE WITH MOST OF YOU THAT SEASON ONE STINKS! I HAVE NO FAVORITES FROM THAT SEASON. WHY CAN’T THEY RELEASE SOMETHING
( anything ) FROM SEASON THREE ( i know, the rights )? I NEVER SEEN EPS #509, #604 + #616 BEFORE SO THIS WILL BE A TREAT FOR ME IN EARLY JULY. I HOPE THEY RELEASE VOLUME XVI LATER IN THE YEAR!!!!

frankstv: I love the Season 1 eps. True they’re not as funny but I love seeing the show’s history. Also if Shout doesn’t mix them in now, they’ll have a pile of Season 1-only sets towards the end which nobody will buy.

22. M "The Evil Judge Robert Bork" Sipher says:

Frankly, I like season 1 a lot more than many of the season 3 episodes, so I’m all for bringing those back. (Most of the Sandy Frank movies I find interminable, and many of the Film Ventures International episodes leave me snoozing.) Please, I want me some Robot Halocaust. That was my first MST ep ever.

The more “conversational” tone of the series then appeals to me way more than the overly-scripted feel of later eps, and it took a while for MST to finally get back to genuinely feeling like three funny guys watching the movie for the first time.

The other episodes are all solid for me. “Lover’s Lane” amuses greatly largely on the constant harping of Danny’s pure, undiluted stupidity and… well, let’s call a spade a spade and just say how gay Danny is for Big Stupid. It’s adorable. “Zombie Nightmare” is a homerun on all levels, and “Racket Girls” not only has a hilarious short and set of host segments, but really, the earnest cheese (and cheesecake) to me is really amusing.

23. The Toblerone Effect says:

I just want to pose an argument for Season 1 episodes being released….I agree that, at least from the treatments I’ve seen so far, they are not nearly on par with subsequent seasons. But, there are a percentage of MSTies (like myself) who got into the show after Season One was shelved by BBI and CC, so for us it’s the equivalent of a “lost” episode. Even with “The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy”, my copy from the ’95 Thanksgiving marathon was incomplete because my tape ran out with about ten minutes to go. So having this episode forever on DVD is satisfying.

Look at it this way: If Travis is right (and he has been to this point), there are only a handful of Season One eps available left to release, and SF could very well be refocusing on later-CC and SciFi-era shows again for Volume XVI.

Uhg. I’m glad so many of us are so positive on these boards, but this is the first set I won’t be buying. As said before, Season 1 is ‘interesting’, but has no rewatchability, which is one of the greatest things about MST3K. Heck, BBI didn’t even want them repeated on Comedy Central because they were a ‘work in progress’, people!

And right where there is usually one great Joel episode that makes me buy the set solely based on it – there is Girl in Lover’s Lane, which to me, has always been the least funny Joel ep from seasons 2-5.5. It’s just – there.

Racket Girls is middle of the road Mike CC era. Just okay.

Zombie Nightmare is good, but I’m an old-school Joel fan and this set is really weak, to me. I’ll have to wait for the next one.

and speaking of picture quality as some have listed as their reason to buy the new DVDs – did anyone notice that the actual print of the movie for Manhunt In Space looked way grainier/scratchy than when the actual episode aired. Can anyone confirm this?

Keep ’em coming Shout!, but please more Season 3/4 (Joel’s best) and Season 8 (Mike’s best).

@ Gary (#75) I agree the posters are a waste of space. I also think they could put a little more effort into the menu screens…they are SUPER-lame. How about using actual music from the movies or something instead of the canned crap that they’re pumping out. And ditch the computer rendering of the bots….looks really DUMB.

But enough criticism, I’m just happy stuff is still getting released.

Wow! I wasn’t expecting another set until the last quarter. I’ve got say I am not disappointed.

I’m sure after another viewing many naysayers will find Robot vs The Aztec Mummy is a pretty good episode. It appears as if Commando Cody’s serial episodes are on the plate. The more Season One the better.

The Girl in Lover’s Lane and Racket Girls are two episodes I’ve only seen once in poor quality. So, I can’t complain about them.

Zombie Nightmare is the strongest episode on the list, in my top five. You can’t go wrong with Tom and Mike dressed as Batman and Robin!

Well ole chum that’s all from me. Thanks Shout Factory; keep’em coming!

#41 The Castle Monster –

I should have said Navarre, not BCI Eclipse/Brentwood. They probably have the rights to AZTEC MUMMY if the set is still in print. If not, Shout probably licensed it from the original rights holders.

#68 BigZilla –

Shout got the rights either from Code Red, or from the people that Code Red is licensing ZN from, so there should be no issue at all.

Whoever mentioned it above . . . I would love to see an entire set dedicated to the Russo-Finish movies. The Day the Earth Froze, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad, The Sword and the Dragon, and Jack Frost.

If the trailers/promos part is what I think it is, we may get to finally see again what has not been seen for many, many years. To promote a good number of the shows in season 6, BBI recorded their own promos for the new episode with new material utilizing an existing prop or set-up from the upcoming episode. Since these would not air DURING the new episode, the only times that these little tidbits were seen was during other CC programming, or during a MST3K repeat earlier in the week.

Not necessarily masterpieces in and of themselves, they are still unique artifacts for your consideration and mirth.

I REALLY wish that Shout! would put in chapter stops more like Rhino. It just gives you a better way to flip forward if you are trying to get to a certain point in the film or host segment. Not a big issue, I suppose, but I thought I’d throw it out there.

There really is no excuse for not having chapter selections, which can be found on even the lowliest of DVDs.

I’m guessing people begging for Sci-Fi episodes over Comedy Central episodes were “late comers to the party”. I don’t believe many MSTies who started with the show in the early seasons and ORIGINAL version of the show would agree with that. The show was great till the end, but no way was it better after Joel left (and then Frank, and then Trace). Give me more episodes 101-512 please, then the rest!

Ohhh, this sounds like a good one to me. I’m not keen on the season one episodes, but so many people like them, I won’t begrudge them. And Aztec Mummy has the completely bizarre demon dog host segments (something I remember with greater clarity than the actual movie!)

The Girl in Lover’s Lane is one of the first episodes I caught. Big Stupid is still a catchphrase used in our house. I’m looking forward to seeing this one again (are we drifting?)

I caught the first half hour of Zombie Nighmare when it first aired and it was hilarious. I’m looking forward to seeing the conclusion.

I never saw Racket Girls, but the description in the ACEG always intrigued me.

I can’t wait for this set. And I enjoy the mini-posters. They decorate my cube at work and give me a little MST3K cheer at work when everything else get’s grey and drab. ;)

I have that set. On the side: the prints are horrendous, practically unwatchable. Understandable, considering the difficulty of getting the master prints for old Mexican horror movies but even if such prints exist for these movies they are horribly dreary and dull. The scenes with the backwards-flying cable bat are certainly riffable but not much else.

40. Actually, I started with season three (and Joel) and came to think Mike was a far better host (no, I don’t want to bring up the Mike V. Joel wars, just to point out that not all folks who like later Mike episodes were those who didn’t start with Joel).

But I truly think that seasons 4 through 8 were best — everyone was firing on all cylinders, they knew what they were doing, and there was seldom a “miss” unlike the earlier or later seasons (earlier I think they were just trying to understand the process, and later became burn out, I do believe).

Rights is always going to be the biggest issue, though, and it’s unlikely that some of the choicest episodes will ever see the light of day (which is why I’m glad I already have them on pristine DVDs).

When I saw this announcement yesterday I got a little concerned. It seemed like the announcement for the 20th anniversary set was not too far in advance of when it actually came out (I can’t remember specifically). And the end-of-October release for the 20th anniversary set was followed up really quickly with the announcement for Volume XIV, which went on sale the first week of February. It has taken about 6 weeks since XIV came out for the announcement of XV, but wow–July is quite a ways off compared to the turnaround of 20thAE to XIV. I don’t know much about DVD companies, and trust the people on this board who have lots of faith in Shout!Factory, but does this worry anyone else? Maybe I’m just anxious to see lots of releases!

Also, as far as season one goes, I think you’re a lover or a hater based on when you started watching MST. “Robot Holocaust” is one of my Top 5 episodes–it is just perfect pacing of riffs, and the riffs are hysterical! I love “Untamed Youth” and “Robot Monster” too. But these were among the first episodes I ever saw (1st was “Crawling Eye,” 2nd that I can remember was “Women of the Prehistoric Planet.”) Season one has a completely different feel–is almost a different show–than the Sci-Fi era shows. I agree with #85, the show was great to the end, yet I understand why the season one episodes feel too different for some fans of the show.

Yes, it does worry others here. I was really hoping Shout Factory would keep a MUCH faster pace of release than Rhino did. Waiting so many months between set 14 and set 15 definitely causes concern that the release schedule will slow to a trickle like it did with Rhino. One or two sets per year is not fast.

I started watching MST3K at it’s end on CC, but that was just as it was cancelled, and then regularly on the Sci-Fi Channel.

I’m for any MST3K episodes to be on DVD. I bought a lot of DVD-Rs from Cheepnis in order to better acquaint myself with the CC era. I have all of the Mike episodes and many Joel episodes.

I’d like to see the Alpha and Omega of MST3K in a future DVD set. Episode 101- The Crawling Eye and Episode 1013- Diabolik!
