    Or perhaps people have mistaken it to be an instruction manual, rather than a cautionary tale?

    Never quite understood how Orwell maintained a belief in socialism after so completely depicting its pitfalls.

    That would be like Paul trashing the Pharisees but still remaining Jewish.
