This sounds like a damn good set to me! I thought both “Warrior of the Lost World” and “Night of the Blood Beast” were considered fairly tough to get, so I certainly was alittle surprised to see them on XVI! Along with “Santa Claus” and the extras accompying it, and the Servo figurine, what’s there to complain about (Other than the Season 1 haters weighing in on the inclusion of “The Corpse Vanishes”)?

in think this is a great volume. I had a feeling santa claus was going to be on it. I like the corpse vanishes. i had a feeling there was going to be a season 1 episode. Warrior of the lost world is a great epsiode. I also like the night of blood beast.

Just by being an MST3k set, this was sold to me anyway. I can’t wait for this one. Blood Beast, Warrior of the Lost World, and most important of all, Santa Claus! The Servo figure makes it even better.

A good set, especially extras- I think I’ll have to splurge for the TS figuire. I must say that Santa Claus may be the most painful movie they did to watch- imagine seeing it without the riffing, etc.

  12. Ryan McSwain says:

Great looking set! Warrior of the Lost World and Santa Claus are both very well liked, as is Night of the Blood Beast, if I recall correctly, and a ancient first season ep for the die-hards!

Hopefully the whining will keep to a dull roar.

The Tom Servo figurine for me is a must have. with all the good episodes, Corpse Vanishes was probably an easy title – public domain

I’m so glad Shout! took over from Rhino. Rhino would never have included half the extras, and in a typical Rhino move, probably would NEVER have included the vital Night of the Blood Beast Turkey Day host segments! The inclusion of the Turkey Day ‘95 bumpers is a big bonus and I hope this is a sign of things to come… all TD bumpers, eventually?

This is an awesome set! I’ve really liked everything Shout Factory has done up to this point, especially XV, but this is my favorite one so far! Great episodes, a really good season 1 episode (I’m one of the few that loves season 1), and fantastic extras. SF has really proven themselves and if people don’t like this set, then I’m curious what the hell WOULD make them happy. Three cheers for Shout Factory! …or not… Its your choice.

Nice to see this set coming out. Will have to rearrange my 200 disc holder for the MST series with Night of the Blood Beast (I actually bought it from mst3kvideos a while back, one disc for one version, one for the other)

My only complaint is no season 3 episodes…but maybe next time on that one.

Santa Claus and Warrior of the Lost World are two of my favorite episodes. I’m glad that we’re finally going to be getting them in a good format, so I won’t have to rely on the recorded-off-the-TV video files.

    Man… I miss those Turkey Day marathons…

Getting Season 3 on DVD will be a huge challenge. Night of the Blood Beast is PD too, very true (both Alpha and Retromedia released it) and I suppose Santa Claus could be PD. Warrior of the Lost World could be the one that cost the most to license (speculation)
Overall I dont think much was spent on getting the rights to these, but what great choices overall. With all the money SF makes on this set, maybe that money could go into a title that cost more to license that fans would like..
What a great time to be an MST fan

happy: Well, the Sandy Frank related eps of Season 3, yeah.

But things like Daddy-O? The two Master Ninja things? Teenage Caveman?

Blood Beast proves that they can get at least the Corman films.

Johnny Ryde #25 I’m with you my only complaint is we hve to wait until DEC. 1. It would be great to have it a little earlier so I could sneak off on Thanksgiving and catch an episode while everyone is sleeping off the turkey induced coma.

This sounds like a good one. I’m particularly interested in the “making of” segment on “Santa Claus”, if only to find out just what the heck they were thinking of when they made it.

And maybe David Worth will talk about Megaweapon’s on-set behavior.

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my favorite set that either Rhino or Shout has ever released!!!!!!!!!

Santa Claus is my all-time favorite Mike episode and easily in my Top 5 overall.

Warrior of the Lost World is one of my all-time favorite Joel episodes.

    Anything else is gravy.

    THANK YOU, SHOUT FACTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To quote Mike Nelson, I apologize if my thoughts on this are ambiguous.

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry one more thing….I would be remiss anytime the discussion of official releases comes up to not mention the following:

    Dear Shout Factory,

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please release Master Ninja I and Master Ninja II!!!!

By releasing Santa Claus and Warrior of the Lost World, you have done an amazing job and given me faith that the sets will continue to be great.

    And thus, I repeat:

PLEASE RELEASE MASTER NINJA I AND MASTER NINJA II!!!!

They are my two favorite episodes of…anything….ever.

And again, thank you for Santa Claus and Warrior!

    Best,
    Droppo

The only one of these I’ve seen at all is “Night of the Blood Beast”, and that one not for years (I’ve got an old VHS copy taped off of its original airing.)

Which is all to the good, in my mind; it’s a lot of fun, getting a bunch of episodes I’ve never seen and sitting down to watch them for the very first time!

(Probably most looking forward to “Santa Claus”, though. Season One is mostly of interest to me for historical purposes, and I have a tiny, slight, insignificant preference for Mike.)

  41. PrivateIron says:

Warrior is my son’s favorite and I like it a lot. Santa Claus is goofy fun and has iconic host segments. Corpse Vanishes is about standard for a Season One episode, OK, not great. I am in the minority in finding BloodBeast grueling boredom, but the short is actually pretty good. Overall, as good a set as I ever expect to get and better than most, given the rights issues and the variables in fan tastes.

  42. PrivateIron says:

To continue, it made my son’s day. I hope someday to see more of my Season 4 favorites, plus Sampson, Outlaw, Melting Man, Frost, Riding, H.A.R.M. and Sacrifice. Even though I prefer Joel, but still love Mike, I actually think Season 3 is the worst full length season and am mostly glad it is plagued by rights issues, but I do love me some Viking gal waffles.

Great selections! ROAD WARRIOR is one of the best, and I thought both “versions” of BLOOD BEAST were fantastic. Crow’s weird rant about babies is one of my all-time favorite skits.

Huzzah! Now we’ll have all of the first three parts of Commando Cody from Season 1 on commercial DVD releases. As for the rest of the set, I have no complaints. Great job Shout Factory!

its rare that someone thinks season 3 is the worst season, and Im sure youre happy hardly anything has been released from it :)

  47. EthanV says:

This is good, but I hope the Tom Servo figure resembles Tom Servo better than the Crow figure resembles Crow. It was incredibly inaccurate.

I won’t complain about the episodes at all, except to say that until CRAWLING EYE is released, continuing on with Season One episodes is really frustrating. They aren’t good, so unless SHOUT FACTORY can be completists with the first episode, it might be better to bounce around seasons two, three and four a little more for our Joel episodes.

SANTA CLAUS is the highlight here…a very entertaining movie. NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST makes me uncomfortable, with it’s 50’s take on male pregnancy. When it’s not being cringingly emasculating, it’s being very, very boring. BUT, the alternate host segments are to die for, and I love that we’re finally getting them in pristine dvd quality!

But I have a question: The TURKEY DAY ’95 bumpers. The same as included in the Scrapbook that SHOUT FACTORY is pulling apart like a turkey carcass? Frank is throwing a party for the Mole People and Forrester won’t participate?

    PrivateIron:

Surprised that anyone could prefer Joel to Mike (which I do, but, I love them both) and not like Season 3. I always considered Season 3 to be Joel’s (and the show’s) finest moment, along with Season 5.

The Sandy Frank episodes, the Master Ninja episodes (my favorite in the entire series), Pod People, Daddy-O, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Just always thought that was the pinnacle.

    Interesting…to each MSTIe, his/her own, I suppose.

Fantastic news! Use real springs for Servo’s arms (NO SPRINGS!).
Santa Claus is an all-time fave I’ve only been able to see on Youtube. Looking forward to Corpse Vanishes as well, Bela and Commando Cody spells F-U-N!

  50. Lucky Jim says:

Great set of set of episodes. They’re all very funny and gloriously weird.

The extras are still a little underwhelming, and not really anything different than what Rhino was doing by the end, but they look entertaining enough.

The episodes though are what matters, and with that I couldn’t be happier.
