So… when are they going to put the release format back to four discs instead of the three they’ve been doing lately?

#47 Ethan V: No…the Turkey Day bumpers for 95 are Clayton doing his marathon, finding out that Frank, before being assumed into Sidekick Heaven, set up a Thanksgiving party.

It directly leads into the Turkey Day version of “Night of the Blood Beast”.

Erf. (yes, I will b*tch). Another Season 1 ep. A good Joel ep. A bad Mike ep (Santa), and a decent Mike ep. Just like last time. I would pass, but I’d like that Tom figure.

and to anyone who thinks Season 3 is the worst – good God man

    Ator
    Gamera(s)
    Daddy-O
    Time of the Apes
Colossal man (and Beast with Mr. B)
    Monster-A-Go-Go
    Master Ninja(s)

Sometimes I just don’t get you people.

No complaints from the ol’ Professor. Not when one of my favorite episodes, long thought to be near impossible to get the rights to, is finally coming out! (That’d be Warrior of the Lost World, o’ course)

  9. pablum says:

Warrior of the Lost World is one of my favorites followed directly behind by Santa Claus. Both amazing episodes. The other two will do nicely for keeping my DVD collection looking better than before.

The Tom Servo figurine is going to be like last year’s Crow. Just an inarticulate, sorta off-looking piece of plastic. I’ll be getting it, but I hope whomever decides on MST3K merchandise (Joel or Mallon) puts out some higher quality Crows and Toms soon.

I’ll have to disagree with the knocks at Season 1 and at Season 3. Robot Vs. Aztec Mummy is howlingly funny to me as are some other Season 1 gems. I’d love to see Robot Holocaust and Robot Monster on DVD from Shout Factory. Season 3 also contained some absolutely terrific stuff, some of the funniest ever done on the show so I’m at a loss for words to hear harsh criticism of it.

What a great selection! Night of the Bloodbeast is one of my favorites – and we are getting the regular AND Turkey Day segments!

I just wish they would release 4 or 5 boxsets per year instead of 2 or 3. Santa Claus is the only one I have not seen. Is it good?

  12. PrivateIron says:

First, I should not have said that I wanted Season 3 items to not be released. It was more like relatively, I am happy to get those episodes last as opposed to ones I like much better. Because worst is a relative term and Season 3 is still watchable.

Second, when I said “full season” I meant 22-24 episodes. Which means I can still dislike Seven and One more than Three. As for the list in comment 55: Cave Dwellers (Ator): yeah and already released; the others, meh, except for Monster A Go Go, which I thought was in Four.

I like Four, Eight, Two, Five/Six as my top five seasons, showing that I clearly do not believe in evolution for the show.

I was one of the folks who was a bit miffed at the Season One inclusions, but I’ve actually really enjoyed them. Perhaps it has something to do with seeing Josh perform so well on Cinematic Titanic before getting re-exposed to the Season One stuff.

Can’t wait to have an X-mas time “Santa Claus” sreeening at work.

Personally, I’d rather have a Mr. B Natural figuring than a Gyspy figuring. Bad touch!!

    @#60

Spot on, Mr.B(ob)… I am so glad to see someone else actually loves Season 1 as much as I do, and loves Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy! That is one of my favorite episodes from Season 1. Season 1 has some classics! Untamed Youth, Black Scorpion, Robot Monster, and Robot Holocaust! Season 1 never gets any love… Season 3, on the other hand… To each his own, but Season 3 is a treasure trove season packed to the gills with goodness! I wish to God they could get Time of the Apes, Fugitive Alien I&II, and Master Ninja I&II released on DVD. Great, great season.

To each his own. I love ALL MST3k, but when you’ve been watching since the original broadcast of the second episode of Season 2, I guess you have a different perspective on the show. Even bad MST3k (which IMO there isn’t any) is better than good anything else.

“I just wish they would release 4 or 5 boxsets per year instead of 2 or 3.”

You can say that again. The pace of release is still slow in my opinion, albeit slightly better than Rhino. As the show ages and so does the fan base, the interest in these sets may diminish as more casual fans move along to other things, problems with life and distractions of all sorts. Why not go for the bucks now while the “iron is still hot”? They could release a set every other month and somehow I’d find a way to buy every one of them as I’m sure a lot of fans would do. At this pace releases far down the road may fizzle and then no more new sets at all. I want my MST and the sooner the better.

    Mr. Bob:

I totally agree with you. I’m sure Shout Factory! could release a boxset every other month without any problems. I would buy them, and I am sure most everyone here would love to see a set released every other month. If enough people want that kind of release schedule, I’m sure Shout Factort! will listen as long as the demand is there.

“when you’ve been watching since the original broadcast of the second episode of Season 2”

Luckily we got The Comedy Channel on our cable system during Season 2 MST3K. Our first episode was Wild Rebels. We got hooked very quickly and by the end of the first year of watching we were total MSTies. It was great getting the show so early on when they still were showing reruns of Season 1 as well.

I’ve very enthused about Corpse Vanishes and Warrior Of The Lost World beintg on the next DVD set and the other two shows on the set are good ones as well.

“Luckily we got The Comedy Channel on our cable system during Season 2 MST3K. Our first episode was Wild Rebels.”

That’s funny. We got Comedy Channel at the same time as well. My first episode was “Sidehackers” and, naturally, I was an instant MSTie.

“I’ve very enthused about Corpse Vanishes and Warrior Of The Lost World being on the next DVD set and the other two shows on the set are good ones as well.”

Same here… This set, IMO, is absolutely fantastic! “Warrior of the Lost World” is in my Top 5 episodes of all time. “Corpse Vanishes” is a really good Season 1 episode and Blood Beast and Santa Claus are great episodes as well! Can’t wait!

    PrivateIron,

Oops, yes Monster-A-Go-Go is season 4. I was thinking The Unearthly (both turgid but hilarious).

And Daddy-O is ‘meh’? Wow. It’s one I save for special occasions.

As for this set (as well as the last one), I just can’t see paying $60 for one good Joel episode. Season 1 is okay, but add two Mikes and it ain’t worth it for me. I don’t think I’ve watched Santa Claus since it came out. I really hated it. Maybe time for a revisit. Blood Beast is okay, as are all season 7 (Laserblast is the best).

Oh well, I guess most of you guys are happy. I’ll keep waiting.

Has Crash of the Moons been announced yet? They got the first Rocky Jones.

But then again “Santa Claus” for Christmas…(thank you Boggy Geek for noticing) A Tom Servo figurine…All those extras… I can go without scene selections.

I welcome more season 1 eps (watching chronologically. Fewer riffs, but good quality ones. Love Weinstein’s Servo, but can’t say the same for Larry). And I LOVE the Shout Factory sets. I finally picked one up with XV, and everything from the packaging to the menus, to the extras was spot on. I’m noticing that Shout is swiping a lot of Rhino’s old contracts (MST3k, Transformers, GI Joe) and doing a much better job with them. Way to stick it to your former employers guys!

  27. “Warrior Of The Lost World” YES!
“Night Of The Blood Beast” (both versions) YES!
    “Santa Claus” DOUBLE YES!
“The Corpse Vanishes” …Well, I’m a completist so YES!
And a Tom Servo figurine? HELL YES!
Can’t wait till December. Christmas present coming.

  28. “and to anyone who thinks Season 3 is the worst – good God man”

Hey, everone likes different things. Some nutty people even dislike Season 1! Go figure.

Very nice set. Santa Claus for Christmas and a Servo to boot.

I didn’t notice if anyone asked this yet, but is NOTBB watchable with *either* set of host segments or are the Turkey Day ones only available separately? The technology is there, they should use it!

  29. “Way to stick it to your former employers guys!”

They’d only be sticking it to them if their former employers were still in that line of business. The fact is that Rhino has gotten out of the TV-on-DVD business and Shout! has been there to pick up the pieces. Being a smaller company (like Rhino used to be before being subsumed into the TimeWarner machine), Shout! probably has an easier time okaying this kind of stuff, as it is what makes their product stand out.

“This is good, but I hope the Tom Servo figure resembles Tom Servo better than the Crow figure resembles Crow. It was incredibly inaccurate.”
    =============================
Even more intriguing, how would a Gypsy figurine be? Now that would be a challenge.
Of course it should be paired with a Richard Basehart figurine.
Cambot would be easy to do.

  33. As always, even though I have all the MST3K episodes (except for the KTMA season) on DVD, I will be buying this to get the Tom Servo figure (no matter how bad, it’s the only Tom I’ll ever own :>)

I really hate Season One (almost never watch) but because so much of what I have isn’t up to the exceptional quality of the rest of my collection I actually welcome the inclusion of those episodes. That’s actually about the only real reason (other than Tom) for me to continue to buy these (almost without exception the DVDs I got from Rhino weren’t as good as the digital sat. copies I had mastered myself — then again, I used to do this stuff for a living. The Shout! stuff is about as good as what I’ve mastered, but I do use chapter stops, something I guess Shout! hasn’t heard about yet).

I do agree that the fan base for this stuff is rapidly disappearing, and a window for people who really want to buy isn’t more than five years or so. Hopefully in that time all the episodes that you folks want will be released and your collection will be as complete as mine.

I’ve never seen either version of NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST, but were the in-theater segments different, or just the host segments?

    Wow. Talk about exceeding expectations.

This is the best set of MST released yet…that includes Rhino and Shout releases.

Two..not one…two bona fide fan favs and in my opinion two pretty close to classic eps…IN ONE SET! (Santa and Blood Beast)

Now normally I would expect the other two to be not so good but Warrior is a solid ep that I like quite a bit and has its own following.

Okay, one season one, okay. They had to throw that in, but we will all survive and completists can smile.

    The extras sound terrific!

    Yeah, a Servo figure!

    Great job Shout!

Hooray for “The Corpse Vanishes” and “Night of the Blood Beast.” Season 1 and 7 eps are always welcome! Releasing 501 – “Warriors of the Lost World” hopefully means they’re getting closer to releasing 502 – “Hercules.” It’s also good to see “Santa Claus” finally making it to dvd.

    HOLY AWESOMENESS!!!

This is the first set that’s really surprised me! I can’t wait to find out if Shout licensed NIGHT OF THE BLOODBEAST and WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD from MGM, because that could really open the door for future sets title-wise.

Three of the episodes on the set are among my very top favorites, and I’m always glad to see another Season 1 episode get an official quality release.

    Way-to-go Shout!

I’ll update my Likelihood List (http://forrestcrow.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=mstchat&action=display&thread=6297&page=1) soon to reflect the new set.

I hope the TD segments from the marathon that lead up to the premiere of NOTBB can be included. They showed all of Frank’s invited guests arriving at Deep 13, and form part of the narrative for the TD host segments.

If the Comedy Central logo is “burned in” on the originals, they certainly can be blurred out!

Oh wow, I’m looking forward to this one. I just watched “Santa Claus” a month or two ago and wow, was that an amazingly wacky film and hilarious episode. I enjoyed it more than “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”, it’s just such a weird and horrific film. Those reindeer!

I’ve never seen the other three episodes, but I’ve heard great things about “Warrior”.

I’m not a fan of season one, but I won’t grudge anyone thier favorites. I did see both “Robot Holocaust” and “Robot Monster” and those were probably the best Season 1 episodes I’ve seen, and mostly because the movies were so weird. But “Robot vs. Aztec Mummy” put me and my wife to sleep… really, we woke up when the menu kicked back in.

And by the way, Shout Factory has been including chapter stops since the second box set. So don’t worry they got the message.

Well, I’m looking forward to this one. December can’t come quick enough.
