Jeff Healey, RIP

It’s only tangentially MST-related, but several people have written to inform us that Jeff Healey, the blind blues-rock singer/guitar player who had a prominent role in “Road House” as a blind blues-rock singer/guitar player, passed away last Sunday. He was 41.

Our condolences go out to his family, friends and fans. Our condolences also go out to anyone who has ever seen “Road House.”

Road House is, legitimately, a terrific movie and as a contributor to it, he’ll be missed.

I know this is off subject but does anyone know if 10.2 came out or is it hanging in Limbo like the single Gila monsters that were preordered/backordered. I’m curious if Rhino is just jerking us around one last time or if they’re just plain inept. RIP Jeff

  5. Had cancer; not sure what kind but it caused his blindness too when he was young, so he’s been battling it his whole life.

He’s got them Angel Eyes now…

  8. Sampo says:

    Brandon: According to the AP:
Healey had battled cancer since age 1, when a rare form of retinal cancer known as retinoblastoma claimed his eyesight.

“I don’t think any of us thought this was going to happen,” Bray said. “We just thought he was going to bounce back as he always does.” Healey had undergone several operations in recent years to remove tumors from his lungs and leg.

First and most important, I too will miss Jeff’s smooth style. Second, I recieved my 10.2 5 days after it hit the market, so no complaints here.

Coincidence? I just heard Swayzie has terminal cancer?!?

Poor guy. I figured he was real healthy too.

  15. Fred P says:

Just got my e-mail from Rhino. I also read that Swayze isn’t terminal and that was an erroneous report by bloggers. He’s responding well to treatment and has a good prognosis.

  18. Brian Switzer says:

Jeff and his band were the only redeeming quality of Roadhouse. I met him once and he was a terrific person. I was sad to hear of his death but at least his battle with cancer is over.
