John Galvarro, RIP
Alert reader Corey pointed us to this item, a death notice for John Galvarro, who played Larry in the short “Are You Ready for Marriage.” I haven’t been able to find an exact date of death for him. According to his theater troupe’s Facebook page, it looks like the death occurred on 27 July.

One of my all time favorite shorts, staring a clueless boy with the hots for marriage. “On Belay,” my friend, you always made me smile.

Not just a funny short, but one with a level-headed message that still holds true today. Never make light of boing.
I haven’t seen this one. I don’t think the old shorts are funny, except the one with Coily.

First episode I ever saw, making Are You Ready For Marriage my first real MST3K experience. And it was a great short to start with, some of my favorite riffs are from this short.
“MARINES! WE ARE LEAVING!”
“Sorry, back in Da Nang there.”
“I’m Mighty Boy!”
“Suddenly their marriage is The Eiger Sanction!”
“BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RUBBER BAND?!?!?”
“Got any more of these books, son?”
“She’s suing him?”
And although I didn’t understand at the time, it was also my very first “Shut up Iris.”
Ah, John, I will forever remember you by the line, “Larry, you’re a dullard.”

John also appeared in “Drug Addiction,” the following year. He plays a badass heroin addict, who cuts his mouth on a soda bottle. I think it’s available on the Prelinger Archive site.
I am fortunate, I guess. to have this on the Rhino release of Mr. Bs Lost Shorts. I first saw AYRFM? and Mr. B Natural and Johnny At The Fair via this offering.
Great short … I remember the female lead whining “Oh, Larry” and Crow[?] retorting “Oh. Rob” a la Laura Petrie and who could forget “Boooiiiiiinnnnnnnngggg”
Yes, John Galvarro passed on July 25th of this year. He would loved these posts! Thanks for enjoying & celebrating his work!
