Sandy Frank and Wife Assault Each Other

In the weird-but-true department, 81-year-old Sandy Frank and his 57-year-old wife, Brenda, have both been charged with assault for throwing drinking glasses at each other. Gamera would definitely not approve.

Regarding the bad blood between Sandy Frank and MST3K, this thread will help ease tensions A LOT, I’m sure.

Jeez, it looks like ‘ole Sands got into a staring contest with the ark…and won.

Speaking of Gamera, the upcoming Shout! Factory releases will include the English dub (http://www.dvddrive-in.com/features/gameradoublepromo10.htm). If we’re lucky, this is a sign that SF can distribute the MST versions without Sandy Frank. *fingerscrossed* ;-)

Perhaps the most horrifying thing we’ll ever see in our lifetime: a candid shot of Sandy Frank.

Is it just me, or does it look like he’s doing his best Gamera impression in that photo? Seriously, put a green tint on the pic, make Sandy’s eyes more buggy, accentuate his front teeth, and you have yourself a perfect Gamera clone!

And I feel bad for the poor schlep who took this photo; he/she probably had to buy a new camera after the lens cap broke.

Uh-oh, Sampo. The Hague has just ruled that distributing photos of the Franks is a crime against humanity.

The generals at Guantanamo Bay have said that they would be disgusted to show those photos to detainees.

Hopefully Sandy Frank will need the money to pay his lawyers badly enough that he will finally let them release some of those classic MST episodes. Quick cash Sandy! Do it! Do it! I wants me some Time of the Apes on DVD.

Also @crowtdan #6… Sandy Frank didn’t create Gamera, nor is he Japanese. He just brought some old Japanese movies and TV shows over, badly dubbed them, and dumped them into cheap packages for TV stations to buy.

  32. Joseph Nebus says:

Well, I’ll say it. I’m sorry for the people involved that they’re (apparently) assaulting each other and that a new marriage is collapsing right away. It’s a terrible state to be in, for anyone, regardless of their profession or the regrettable state of their pictures. I’d rather they were happy, or at least not so angry that it becomes a court case.

  34. Alex says:

Guys, remember, Sandy does NOT have a right to say if any of the episodes can be released or not. It’s Kadokawa Pictures (who pretty much despises Mst3k, which is why we’re never going to get the Gamera episodes) and Tsuburaya Productions. But now that I think of it, I guess it’s possible Tsuburaya Productions doesn’t care MST made fun of their films, esp since Jim was able to at least post a clip on Mst3k.com from K03 – Star Force in one of the theater segments. Unless he just posted that up without permission…

  38. Brandon says:

#84 – keep in mind that Sandy Frank still owns the rights to the dubs he made. So even if Kadokawa Pictures says it’s okay to use the episodes, they still need Frank’s permission to use his dubs.

I’ve wondered if Kadokawa dislikes MST or if they just hiked up the price of the old Gameras after they sold the 90s ones to ADV.

    @ 88

Well yeah, I know the dubs are technically his property, but I’ve heard that once the movie rights reverted back to their original owners, Frank no longer had a right to own them anymore (I got this info from Travis on the MST forums btw)….. unless that was all just an assumption?

  49. Alex says:

    @ 90

I’d imagine they pretty much dislike MST, after what I heard about Brian Ward’s statement on the status of the Gamera episodes on the forums.
