Pretty cool. They are referencing the 20th anniversary, which is fine, but is there any more significance to that other than the date? Like is there word aboot a documentary or something like that?

A lot of anniversary releases recycle stuff. I just want to know if they have plans to do more than that.

Awesome cover art! A huge improvement over Rhino’s disgustingly stupid slap-dash packaging. AHH I can’t wait!

Wow, that’s just lovely. Pre-ordered on faith, based on my love of MST3K and my appreciation for the good work that Shout! did for Home Movies and Freaks & Geeks. Fingers crossed for some quality bonus features.

Wow! I wonder if there is a honey-baked ham inside that tin?

  13. happy says:

I think there is going to be honey baked to the sweetest episodes that would make a 20th anniversary set really fabulous.
That is one HOLY COW design, it looks like a rounded tin like mentioned on the web-site. 2 more weeks until we get to know whats on there
Im going with 101,201,706 and 1001 despite that 624,1013, 801 are also key episodes & would not surprise me if those were in there..there are a handful of key episodes, its just a matter of what they could get and how much a mix of Joel and Mike (Joike)CC & SciFi matters to them..
I have never looked forward to getting a set in my mst3k life..I might faint due to all this excitement..someone get me some water !!

Ham? No way, it’s clearly filled with cookies.

Oh come on! That’s the most boring design they could have come up with.

This is MST3K!! Rhino got it right. Their packaging was awesome and actually had a lot of the shows flavor printing on each one. If this was Star Wars Episode 25 12-DVD boxset then the packaging would be perfect!!! MST3K packaging SHOULD look cheesy.

…ball dropped if you ask me. :( But..I can’t get me my “ham tin” fast enough! I’ll bet the content is pants-wettingly good!!

I agree this just looks so gineric. It looks like it was designed in 3minutes. I bet the dvd menus are all going to be the same too.

The packaging is all well and good, but as my mom always told me when the other kids would point and laugh: it’s what’s INSIDE that counts.

    So? What’s inside?!

  20. …Woo… familiar images from the show. I’m not getting excited until I know exactly which episodes/bonus features it will contain.

  21. casimar says:

I like the packaging a lot better than the random photoshop Rhino covers. (Why was there a picture of a dinosaur on volume 10…? Anyone? And why did the discs have pictures of things like ham and eggs on them?)

But I agree it’s the contents that matter. To that end, I preordered it solely on Joel’s word that its extras would be super neato cool.

  22. Joey Stink Eye Smiles says:

Actually, a lunchbox w/ thermos design would be pretty cool.

The Educational Archives box set I have has that design. It contains some MST3K shorts on there also. UnMSTied, of course.

  23. Scooter says:

I hope it’s not a tin that needs to be opened, or at least from the front. I can see that making the discs really hard to get out.

  24. SIRHAMHAT says:

If I had to guess–and I don’t–I would say the tin is the outer shell, but there is a normal standard sized box-set container with the slim cases(which B Ward mentioned) inside. Oh, and some Tom Servo-shaped cookies like Granny used to bake before the “incident”…

Seriously though, I was hoping there would be a honey-baked ham inside, but I guess that’ll have to wait. I mean, personally, I’d much prefer a delicious ham over the KTMA episodes.

It looks alot like the design for the MST3K: The Movie DVD. It’s kind of generic…and kind of cool.

  26. Clouseau says:

What a cover. It’ll be nice to have a set done by a company that tends to care about what the fans think instead of cynically just tossing them out knowing we’ll buy them anyway.

    “Super neato cool” extras?

I just hope this box set isn’t ultra expensive, because I need to have super neato cool extras!

    First…wow.

    Very, very nice.

For those of you complaining that it’s ‘generic’, that the wrong word. It’s simple, and the simplest designs tend to be the best. They’ve taken the two iconic elements of the show and created a very clean design with them. In this case, more would definitely be less.

While the designs of the Rhino collections were fun, they were like visual ransom notes, each with colliding clippings from a dozen different sources.

I’m going to guess because they couldn’t put Godzilla couldn’t be on the cover, so a thunder lizard was as close as they could get.

Why it was still there when Godzilla was replaced? No idea.

I never really cared for the “pointing hand” shadowrama. But with the arm straightened, at least it looks less like a Travolta disco pose. :)

Seriously, how many times do you ever even see Joel or Mike pointing at something? I understand the reasoning behind the logo from a marketing standpoint but it always seemed kinda “dumbed down”. I dunno how to explain it. The silhouettes are so iconic I never saw the need for the pointing part. :???:

Should be a nice set though. 202, 706 and 1001 are favorites for sure. Dont really care for 101 although I guess a final upgrade to dvd can never hurt. Though I still dont really understand how much some people want KTMAs, but that’s just me. Bring on the seasons 2 and 3 I say.

It looks awfully thick to only contain 4 eps. Any chance there is Vend-o-gut machine inside. My side has given out from laughing at MST all these years…
I don’t think they will have all the key eps as some want. But maybe one or two plus some fan favs like Final Sacrifice. I hope.
It’s their twentieth anniversary collection so the star warrior like pomp in this circumstance (Ha ha ha) IS cheesy. And right on the money. I like it. But I also liked a lot of the Rhino collection covers too because they were cheesy. Like something from an old fan monster mag. But they did get sloppy toward the end. They just didn’t care!

    It’s a nice case…

However, I’m probably gonna have to set it aside, as I put my MST3K DVDS in a 200 disc holder by number order.

Just give us K01,K02,K03 and 1001 and that would be fine with me. I really would love to see those first 3 episodes that have eluded fans for 20 years.I don’t get these fans that dis MST’s KTMA origins. How can it be a 20th anniversary set if you don’t include something from KTMA?? It will probably end up being something like 101, 201, 706 & 801.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com says there will be another set to be relased early next year, I think Shout! Website says the same thing! And they will be never released on DVD episodes

  43. Coderjoe says:

    @Tor:

It is very unlikely that ANY KTMA episodes will ever get an official release. The Brains have said that they aren’t fond of the KTMA episodes and their haphazard riffing.

Not to mention they didn’t really have any rights other than normal broadcasting rights to any of the films back then.

  44. happy says:

Wouldnt it be great if there were more than 4 episodes in there, like maybe all the key episodes..I bet there will be a scrapbook in there..
    5 Golden Rings
    4 Calling Birds
    3 French Hens
    2 Turtle Dove
    and a Partridge in a Pear Tree :) !!
I cant wait..i hope there is more goodies than just the DVD like a pair of Toms underwear or something

Then Cinematic Titanic should have another go at SST Death Flight… and City On Fire If they did that, I would be fine with no KTMA episodes on DVD.

  46. “I would be fine with no KTMA episodes on DVD”

I will never in a million years understand this kind of attitude. Are you people fans of this show or not? You’d prefer that nothing but crappy Xth generation copies of episodes be the only thing available (or none at all) to a nice, clear DVD release? Just because you are not fond of these episodes, you’re okay with *no* effort being made towards getting them out to the fans who *do* want to see them?

I understand the difficulty in getting certain episodes out, but I am *not* okay with *any* episode being ignored completely. Shout! and Best Brains should be trying to clear everything they possibly can because the fans deserve as much MST3K material as possible.

But the “I don’t care if they release KTMA episodes” crowd? No, I’ll never understand it.

  47. outer space says:

Those episodes were filmed next to metal fabricating plants. Theres no such thing as a nice clear ktma episode.

  48. Edge says:

How about they release the KTMA episodes, after, they release all the CC and Sci-Fi episodes? Is that an OK attitude?

I’m in it for the kicks, err I mean laughs and the word on the street is the KTMA’s aren’t all that.

    Nice case btw.

  49. happy says:

How about they release them if they can..that goes for any season K-10. Best Brains really don’t like the K seasons but fans who love the show would like to see them. Sort of a touchy topic. I would prefer other seasons b4 the K season, but anything released is a good release, especially when it comes to getting rid of 3rd or 4th generation washed up tapes for a clean DVD
