Really! This is the “Live-blogging” we were teased with and have been waiting for? Yeah, we will get to see it on the dvd but I think a run through of questions asked and witty answers would be nice. Something, anything more than that! Is that the kind of coverage you were sent there for? I am really upset. Wow.

  3. ReptilianSamurai says:

Why are they all sitting at the wrong name-tags??

By the way, the page says “Dragon*Con Report” in the title, and it has the old site’s menu on the side, which means you need to press “back” to get back to the news section here. (Me thinks the site still needs some work to fully modernize it…)

Thanks for the report! I am soooo jealous I couldn’t be there.

Crap. And here i was thinking they’d announce a reunion…

    It’ll never happen.

  7. ReptilianSamurai says:

This sort of *is* the reunion.

That said, it’d be cool if some of the Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic folks collaborated with each other (ie some more of the Titans doing a trax with Mike. I’d love for Joel and Mike to riff together at last!)

A reunion is just a dream, unfortunately.

Man, they look like they would rather be a million miles anywhere than where they are. Also, Frank is starting to look like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Did you get an interview with anybody?

Beaks at AinItCool.com had a sit-down with Joel, Jim and Trace and it was pretty funny.

Hmmm..its almost as if we are being enticed into viewing/purchasing the DVD. Curiouser and curiouser. Although, in fairness, most everyone here will anyway…but still, I don’t see why that is a valid reason for the lack of a more detailed rundown of what happened at the reunion.

    Dearest Jake,

We weren’t “sent” anywhere. We chose to attend Comic-Con on our own. However, if you are unhappy with any portion of our coverage, please return the unused portion for a full refund. Thank you.

    The Lovely Erhardt,

All I am trying to say is its a little rude of you, the grand master of t he #1 Mistie fansite, to mock us with your presence there by neglecting to follow up with any kind of entertaining or useful information. Check out the link to the deep ape site and you will see how reporting on this MONUMENTAL event could be handled. Just saying, someone dropped the ball. I would love to use the unnused portion but there was barely any to start with!

Also, sorry for the poor choice of the word “sent.” Were you invited to go? Cuz if so, don’t you feel a little ashamed of what you put out? You were there for this, thousands of us want to know what went down, and you barely gave us anything. I’m disappointed. Is that wrong.

On the other side, the site has always been reliable and you should keep up the good work in those ways. I am just truly astounded that is all you could come up with, with your ties to everyone and all, that’s all we got.

agreed with jake. what a piss-poor “report.”

“. . .the entire panel will be included in the 20th Anniversary box set. So you didn’t really miss anything earth-shattering, in that sense.”

Well gee, now instead of waiting for videos or a real report, I can wait longer for the DVD! Thanks again guys!

Thankfully I can go to YouTube and other blogs that will actually provide what’s expected.

  25. Interociter says:

I went to the panel and it was pretty fun just to see them all together. The report is correct that there was nothing earth shattering, it was basically the usual questions being asked and nothing really notable or new came up. The MST3K crew walked onto the platform and had assigned seating by name tag, which some of them ignored, thus the mixed up name tags. Joel was funnier than I expected him to be off the cuff and Mike was quieter than I expected. I was watching to see how they would interact with each other but I didn’t see the two of them hanging around each other even after the event. Mallon and Joel answered a lot of the questions. Mallon described the Gypsy “rig” in detail including the use of a marching drum harness, which caused them to poll how many in the audience were in marching band and then call us nerds. Bill Corbett and Frank had a lot of funny little comments that I mostly can’t recall. Everyone was asked to identify what they’re doing and plug it. Chaplin said he has some sort of music project. Bridget said that she has been talking to kids about Jesus. Josh said that besides CT he has been writing scripts that die in development. Bill said that he has been writing scripts that “unfortunately do not die in development” to which Josh said that the little man in his head had a tissue for the little man in Bill’s head.

    “Report”

I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to give you an F for that report, because it’s incomplete, and you showed no effort in getting it done.

C’mon, guys! This is supposed to be Satellite NEWS, not Satellite “stuff somebody could have overheard while wandering past the door on the way to a different panel”.

    Look kids,
Sampo and Ernhardt run the Sat News out of love for the show – they are not paid employees and are not required to do any of this at all. Everything they have done in the past is purely free for us to enjoy and take part in and honestly has been nothing short of spectacular. Your whining about the quality of what they have provided on this topic so far shows you to be nothing but ungrateful brats. You sound like the children in the Boxset Titles thread who whimper about what titles Shout has included.

There are many other locations to get reports on this event and sharing those links here is very appropriate – those of us who want or need more detail are welcome to shop around. But sitting here and whining is just plain immature.

Give it a rest and enjoy this site for what it provides and if you need more, go out and get more – and whine about it somewhere else.

  28. teddy says:

Not immature. As stated before, we are basically being mocked for their attendance and reluctance to give us anything. All I am doing is pointing out their shortcomings. Those running the site have always felt the need to dig and provide great info. What happened? Why is it, when the biggest event of the past 10 years occurs, they barely touch it? Are they too busy gloating to themselves that they are there? Do they not feel the need to provide a good recap? If anyone is giving a good report, wouldn’t they want to be the ones with the best? After all, THEY RUN THE OFFICIAL FAN SITE!

And Unapologetic SatNews Fan, do you really feel the report they put out was satisfactory? The post Interociter made was more informative than the sat news report. Sampo & Ernhardt shouldn’t have made a deal of their goings if they weren’t ready to satisfy!

  29. Unapologetic SatNews Fan says:

Yes, I did find it lacking, but as I said, I see no need to whine about it here. Having been to the ’94 and ’96 MST3K conventions (as well as many other cast appearances), I can see why they would be caught up in all the hoopla, especially considering how much else there is to see and do at ComicCon besides MST3K.

Yes, I expected (or wanted – there’s a subtle but significant difference) a little more here, but I’m willing to cut them some slack and wish everybody else would too. They are having a good time, they will report more later, and they will have inside dirt that nobody else will, and I am willing to let them do it in their own time.

There are so many haters here… where have all the nice MSTies that I used to know and love gone to?

Hey Mr. Unapologetic SatNews Fan- if that’s your real name- don’t gives any of this (they do it for free so take what they got) nonsense. I mean if you are going to do something you might as well do it right. What would it take a few more precious minutes to give us a few minor details on what was said or talked about at the meeting or at least add some captions to the photos.

Then again I don’t rally care about that, I just appreciate like the patronizing tone of that Unapologetic SatNews Fan and some of the others.

Other than the DVD news, I guess there really wasn’t alot to report about. In a nutshell a whole lot of dreams are now dashed! NO reunion with the guys ever playing their famous characters again. NO more Film Crew. Mike Bill and Kevin return to Rifftrax. The MST3K website is nothing more than a tombstone with nothing new to ever become of it. At least we will have CT to continue on with their promise of more frequent releases. As for the panel DVD other than seeing our cast again, I’m sure there was nothing new said that we haven’t all heard before.

  32. Captain Cab says:

Unapolegetic Sat News fan: Nobody’s complaining about Sat News itself (which is still the REAL mst3k.com, all the way). On the contrary, the fact that the site rocks so much is precisely why we’re so disappointed in what was an incredibly slipshod article. If you’re the best MST site on the ‘net rightfully known as the MST3K ***INFORMATION SITE*** with an amazing track record and you promise live blogging on what is the biggest MST event ever, then you darn well better deliver. Live blogging doesn’t mean making me wait until tommorrow to read very vague details on what happened. I have to wait until I buy the DVDs? What, did you make a deal with Shoutcast? Seriously. Speaking of which, people have every right to complain about the boxset since Shoutcast made no effort to adhere to the theme of 20th anniversary. 20th anniversary = history. Do you think 3 Mike episodes, one Joel ep, none of them dealing with the intros or exits of either represents the history of the show? That’s why people are annoyed, and we don’t need you telking us how we should feel. All the eps on the set are good, we just think it could’ve been so much more. How sweet would it have been to have Crawling Eye, Mitchell, Brain TWD, and Soultaker or Diabolik? Now THAT would be a 20th anniversary set. And I fully give Shoutcast the benefit of the doubt on securing rights, ecy. But how hard would it have been to get 2 Joel and 2 Mike eps? The MST 20th itself has been pretty underwhelming. It all started with Mallon rejecting the reunion show which killed any chance of the panel having extra zing or anticipation. Also disappointed on the lack of Mike/Joel interaction. Separate sides of the podium. Sigh. I find ironic he interacted with Jim but apparently not Mike. I was hoping for a new Joel&Mike pic but I guess the Soultaker promo photos will have to do. Oh well.

  33. Just another fan says:

Just another fan in the midwest, a longtime Mstie who also attended both the 94 and 96 conventions. Also had many opportunities to meet the Brains at different events and functions over the years. I carefully considered the idea of going to San Diego for this reunion vs. the time, trouble, expense and logistics in doing so. In the end, I decided that going through all the hoops for a 60 minute panel just wasn’t worth it. I essentially gambled that it would be “fun”, “nice”, but that there would not be anything historic, noteworthy or revolutionary coming out of it. Turns out I was correct in my guess. No reunion show, no startling revelations…just a fun nostalgia session.

For those who attended who have never had such an opportunity to see/hear/interact with the Brains in such a setting, it’s obvious why they all had such a marvelous time and a memorable experience. For those of us who, cumulatively, have had such experiences and opportunities over the past 20 years, we just didn’t need to attend and didn’t miss a whole lot in doing so. And it shows by the reports from the con; a nice time was had by all, but other than their all being there, and the announcement of the “Anniversary” DVD set, the Earth didn’t move any further.

  34. Sampo says:

As I said in my post this morning, I acknowledge that we over-hyped (based on our initial excitement at the fact that we were going at all) and under-delivered (when logistical difficulties reared their unforeseen but ugly heads), at least initially, for that I apologize.
I haven’t been over to YouTube yet, but I would not be surprised to see a lot of clips.
I think we will try to expand on the report today or tomorrow.

  35. Scott P. says:

An expanded report would be most appreciated, guys. I think we can certainly see why you’d now want to step on toes regarding something that’s going to be released on DVD. But plenty of other sites are giving reports and their thoughts on what happened, so it would behoove you to give a better account than the original.

The problem was with the host.
We were MSTie fans who know the show backward and forward.

He asked the usual questions that were old hat 10 years ago. This was NOT a press conference, it was a fan filled event.

“What are you dong now,” was asked, but noting 20 years later and how do you feel like.

This was a small show. on a local station, that is now part of the pop culture. That should have been the focus of this reunion.
