Update: Vol. XXI

A further note from Jordan Fields at Shout! Factory:

I’d completely forgotten about the MST Hour wraps for “Gamera” and “Gamera Vs. Guiron” until reading their responses to the extras. Fortunately there is still time to include, so I will. As for the KTMA host segs (or any footage from KTMA), I was not able to include.

Here’s an update Vol. XXI: “MST3K Vs. Gamera” (as it will be called). As you already know it will contain all five Gamera episodes: 302- GAMERA, 304- GAMERA VS. BARUGON, 308- GAMERA VS. GAOS, 312- GAMERA VS. GUIRON and 316- GAMERA VS. ZIGRA. It will be in a tin box. The street date is Aug. 2

The extras will be:
* So Happy Together: A Look Back at MST3K and Gamera
* Gamera Vs. The Chiodo Brothers
* Gamera Obscura: A Brief History by August Ragone (author of Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters)
* Original Japanese Trailers
* 5 limited edition mini-posters by artist Steve Vance

What! No Gamera vs. Guiron MST Hour intros! Darn, that’s one of the few episodes I don’t have the Jack Perkins bits for. Some of Mike’s best work.

Still, this collection is great and I can hardly wait to pick it up.

I am most anxiously awaiting this set.

@ “Is there a chance we’ll also see the “Fugitive Alien” episodes and “Time of the Apes”?

Questions like that are best asked over on the Shout! Factory Community forum. When they can answer them, they do. Brian Ward and his fellow staff are pretty good about answering fan questions over there.

This is going to be epic! I still can’t believe that the Gamera movies are actually being released on DVD! Here’s to hoping (and praying) that “Time of the Apes” and the “Fugitive Alien” movies will be next…heck, I’d even love to see “Mighty Jack” come out and I never even cared for that episode.

    (sigh)
I was really hoping they’d have the KTMA episodes as extras. That way it would set the precedent for later releases that may include Fugitive Alien 2 which, if they included the KTMA version, would give us one of the “lost” episodes. Come on, Shout. There is still time to include these. Tell anyone giving you guff that people can’t get mad if they’re included as extras. :-D

Finally a release date. I have all the other DVDs and have systematically been watching all the other episodes on youtube or google, but i skipped these waiting for the box set. Finally I will be able to bask in Gamera glory.

  21. I was talking to one of the Shout producers at the CT Mesa show and asked him if the KTMA episodes would be included in this box set. He told me he was trying to get the host segments from the KTMA’s as extra’s, looks like he didn’t get them. Oh well, this is still an incredible set. Now if they would only include this as an extra…http://tinyurl.com/44dsthr

No, us Turtles fans are out here. And happy that Flo & Eddy regained control of their music catalog over the past couple years with lots of good stuff back in print.
The final track on this collection is a commercial. Warren Zevon can be heard on that track before he was well known.

This is such great news. Way before I actually followed MST3K weekly (in the Sci-fi Channel days), I distinctly remember somehow seeing a Gamera episode. I don’t even remember how I saw it, but I do remember loving it and it helped set the stage for watching MST religiously later on. I don’t care what the extras are; I’m just ready to see all the Gamera I can feast on.

While I’d rather have some season 7 episodes this will be
interesting since I’ve never seen any of the Gamera movies.
But 5 seem a bit like taking an overdose. Will interventions
    be needed? :doctor:

Will the KTMA versions would have been a dream for me I’m not surprised or disappointed that’s not happening. However the omitting the MST Hour wraps is a bit weird since we’ve seen those before. I would like them to reconsider on that one.

  48. Neal says:

Well, with 5 discs, there might be some other extras being prepared. They just might want to surprise us with them, which I won’t complain about. And that Gamera action figure would look great with the bots. They even make a Jet Jaguar one
