Where You’re Seeing RiffTrax Live

I will be at the Cinemark, in Moosic, Pa, on Montage Mountain just outside Scranton. I’ll probably be in the front row (not including the horrible seats right up next to the screen) wearing a Satellite News T-shirt. If ya see me, say hi!

Erhardt will be at the AMC Studio 30 in Olathe, KS. If you see him, feel free to say “Oh, hai, Erhardt” in your best “The Room” voice.

  8. Most likely Pointe Orlando IMAX (we alternate between that and AMC at Pleasure Island in Downtown Disney. Pleasure Island theater is usually more full, which is nice, but the parking and general area is much more crowded, which is not).

Last time the Pointe Orlando “crowd” was around 10 people, including my wife and I. Not nearly as much fun so perhaps we’ll try Pleasure Island and fight the holiday Disney crowds.

AMC 16 at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. (Yet another crummy movie in the lap of sticky-floored luxury.) Why must the nearest participating theater be in Jersey? You are tearing me apart, RiffTrax!

I will continue my boycott of these events until they start tape delaying them in the Mountain time zone, 6pm is too early for these! For the people and cows in my area, these are shown at the Boise Edwards Stadium 22/IMAX and the first two Rifftrax Lives that I saw looked and sounded fine, crowd was about 60% full, I’d say. Everyone going, have fun!

Union Square. Saw the “Plan 9” encore there, but every other one I’ve gone to was at the Chelsea theater. Hoping for an awesome show, and a decent-sized crowd. I think all the ones I’ve been too except “Haunted Hill” and an encore of the Christmas shorts (went with a friend who couldn’t make it the day before) were completely sold out.

Regency 6, San Rafael, CA (sporting our RT shirts of course!)

The last time we tried to go to a RT event there, there was only one other couple present and the theater screwed up the satellite feed and had to refund our tickets. Which would have been fine expect we had already forked over big bucks for the babysitter :/

So tomorrow, same deal — having the baby sitter over, going to the same theater. They best not screw it up or I might have to try to kill someone with a forklift.

  33. Manny, I just have to say something in your response about watching it in your living room (which is actually pretty funny).

This is the ONLY theater show my wife and I will go to anymore, now that Potter has cast his last spell. I’m an old guy, most likely older than anyone here, and going out to the theater has stopped being fun in any shape manner or form. Too many cell phones not turned off (and some being actively used — is it FUN to text during a movie and what, exactly, is the point?), too high a price for something I can buy on blu-ray cheaper three months later and watch on a MUCH brighter (and relatively same sized 9′ 1080p) screen without a floor covered with sticky crap and overpriced and unhealthy snacks. Heck — even the gas price (nearest halfway decent theater costs us a minimum of $15 in gas — seeing this show will be more like $30 for gas alone, and another $10 in tolls) are causing me to just forgo the whole “going out” thing.

(And don’t get me started on 3D, something I can’t STAND).

I hate to play the old person card, but there was a time when it was tremendous amount of fun to see almost any film. People laughed *appropriately* at comedies (and not at people getting their heads blown off), “ooohhh” and “ahhhh” at action stunts, screamed at scary stuff (“Jaws” was wonderful in this regard) and in general made seeing it with them a must experience. Now people are so rude, stupid or numb (or think it’s “corny” to get excited by a film) it’s a real chore to be in any gathering.

The RT crowd is the exception that proves the rule, and I’m so glad I have at least one reason to leave the house (going out to buy new underwear that I sit around in is the other). Just writing this has given me the resolve to try Pleasure Island and brave the tourists (who will otherwise be milling around) because I know there will be more MST3K fans there.

Mike “ex-genius” Kelley pretty much summed up the current state of movie-going perfectly. I’ll buy the DVD the second it comes out, but I’m not planning on seeing it in the theater as well. I’m trying to budget my money, and to pay $12 for a ticket, and then buy the DVD when it comes out just doesn’t work out. And even though it’s “live,” to me since I’m seeing it on a screen either way, there’s really no difference. Now, if I were where I could go and see the guys in-person, then absolutely I would go. I’m certainly by no means knocking anyone who wants to go see it in the theater, I’m just explaning my stance on it, not trying to influence anyone.

For the people that don’t want to see it in the theater, you are missing out. It’s a lot better of a crowd than you will get at any other movie. It’s like the feeling I get when I go see Rush in concert, I just enjoy being around people who “get it”.

    “Tom… I don’t get you”
“nobody gets me, I’m like the wind!”

Clifton NJ AMC. I’ll be wearing my beat up Crow T Robot “You Know You Want Me Baby!” t shirt.

#33: I have a gripe with multiplex movie theaters: “Movie hopping”. That’s when the audience in one theater leaves the finished movie and then goes into another theater mid-film. Noisy plus the good for nothing ushers don’t check for ticket stubs at the doors! In fact, the last two times I went out to a theater was for a RT event.
