This may be my very favorite thread ever on this site. I fell out of my chair reading these inspired pairings and wished that this parallel universe existed. By the time I got Aphex Twin/Shine Your Love it was all over. Brillz. :yes:

Speaking of “The Deadly Bees,” I would have loved to hear what Amy Winehouse could have done with Vicki’s “Stop the Music.” Actually, it might not have been that bad….

Return to Forever covering the “Manos” soundtrack could be a Grammy winner.
Scott Stapp covering “Do You Want to Laugh or Cry?” would probably evoke both of those responses.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones rendition of “Tobacco Worm” and “Stratosphere Boogie” would be good. Seriously.
I would love to see Weird Al Yankovic do a polka medley of the “Werewolf (TUSK!) Credits Medley”.
If we had a time machine, Michael Jackson doing “Let Me Be Frank About Frank”, Clannad doing “Air On a Delta Knight”, James Taylor doing “California Lady”, Barry Manilow doing “The Janitor Song”, The BeeGees doing “Shine your Love” and Josh Groban doing “Tibby, Oh Tibby”.
I had to make myself stop after a point, or I would vapor lock.
The obvious one is Paul Williams doing ‘Let Me Be Frank About Frank.’ I could also see that one being covered by Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme.
Still waiting for the perfect cover of ‘Hooray For Santa Claus.’ I think either Shonen Knife or Devo might swing on it, or perhaps they could collaborate.
Or maybe Brave Combo on the sock hop song from THE CREEPING TERROR.
My vote is for Janet Klein to give a 1920s-styled rendition of “When I Held Your Brain In My Arms” while playing her ukulele. If I could hear that, I could pretty much die happy.
How about the Jet Jaguar Song (with translated lyrics) performed by William Shatner?

The Swell Season (Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová) would do a nice spare version.

Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton John doing the Fugitive Alien Medley from Fugitive Alien II… and a mumbled curse to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres for putting Xanadu in my head. Perhaps I can chase with by dreaming of Aphex Twin’s Shine Your Love.

What an awesome topic!! Many of these responses are both funny and inspired. I’d like to add my suggestions, if I may…
Dick Dale doing anything by Jimmy Bryant. Although their playing styles are somewhat similar, I think Dale would give “Ah So” in particular an extra flair.
Tom Jones doing The Beau Brummels’ “Woman”, mainly because that topic seemed what Mr. Jones sang about best.
I’d also like to see the mid-60’s version of The Kinks do The Del-Aires’ “Zombie Stomp”. I can practically hear Dave Davies making that wailing sound in the middle of the song.
Speaking of music, I’d like to suggest as a future thread (if it hasn’t been done yet) what musical singer, performer, or group would you best associate MST3K with and why? For me, it would be The Kinks. Imo, their music was clever, at times sarcastic, sardonic, funny, and vastly underappreciated by the mainstream.
Wait a minute. How about Mel Torme doing scat on “Shine Your Love”.
Even Arthur Godfrey would have to concede he’s better then Michelle.

Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits (circa their 1980 Making Movies incarnation) could’ve done a really cool blues verion of the MST3K theme. You’d lose the “la la las”, but the 3 minute guitar solo would make up for it.
I would like to throw an important question out there: has ANYONE ever heard of ANY band doing ANY cover either from a MST3k episode or from any of the movies????

Why yes number 88 – I have! The Crawling Hand features the song “Surfin’ Bird (The Bird is the Word)” which was not too long ago covered by Seth MacFarlane as Peter Griffin in a great episode of “Family Guy.”
I admit Seth MacFarlane isn’t a “band,” per se…
