I have to say I think some kudos goes out to Shout Factory. I don’t recall seeing any other MST3K box set get the amount of press it seems that this box set is getting.

My box set arrived today (Monday)….a little ‘early Halloween’ present from Amazon. I have a date with a Werewolf tonight. :)

I pre-ordered it from Suncoast Pictures and picked it up on Sunday.

I agree with D. Mented – the entire set is beautifully well done! Shout definately went all out on it and it really has me excited what they’ll do with future releases.

I totally agree about the amount of press this box is getting and I think it’s great! If RHINO didn’t send out newsletters, I wouldn’t have even known release dates on past boxes. Keep up the good work SHOUT!FACTORY.

Well mine is on the way also from Amazon. Make note from this reviewer said the one episode with Joel was ‘weaker’ I still wish they picked a better Joel episode for the 20th Anniversary set,but life being what it is, I feel eventually every episode at one point or another will come out & ultimately we should be glad for anything that does get released..I would have gone with Crawling Eye, Rocket Attack USA, Jungle Goddess,Rocketship XM, just something that is considered a good Joel episode for 2 reasons
1-there are 3 good Mike episodes
2-there are still plenty of newer fans who haven’t seen any of the Joels & dont own all the Rhino DVDs. For me this isnt the best one to introduce Joel to (at least to me)not only do the cast & the ACMG call it a bad show, but older fans of the show wouldnt call it a classic either..
So whats on the next set :) ???

I thought I saw a 20th Anniversary MST3K set advert at The Onion’s AV Club site. I have to say I thought because I only noticed an animated Crow and Tom Servo in the banner as I was closing the tab. But would I make up something like that?

If by some weird quirk of fate a MST3K set came out with Lasreblast and let’s say 3 Yoko Ono films it would still in my book rate an A+.

Got a love note from Amazon this morning ( Tuesday ) at 5AM. It’s on its way! I only plumped for the cheapo shipping, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for an end of the week arrival here in the Big Town.

I can’t wait to see how the Crow Fig gets along with my Robbie the Robot Fig from my Tin-Boxed Forbidden Planet !!

Oh and yeah, even though I’m a little more Mike than Joel, they really should gone 2 and 2.

But hey, maybe we’ll have a Joel-in-the-Box set next !!! 3 Joel Eps, 1 Mike Ep, plus a Ken doll sized Jump Suit !!! A model of the SOL !!! plus lots of exclamation points !!!

Wow, not only did the LA Times give it a good review, the review itself is rather high quality… well-informed & information rich, thoughtful & intelligent. Sheri Linden must be from back East.

  13. Short Round says:

This EW review is pretty weak. It basically says there are four episodes in the set, only names two of them, and then gives it an A-. If you are looking for any actual info don’t even bother. In fact if you are reading any of this why bother with any reviews? It’s not like you aren’t buying the set anyway.

Im pro-Joel & I think 2 Joel and Mikes are the right and fair thing to do for the sets & the fans.

Yep yeppers, got my email from Amazon and am hoping their Nov. 3rd delivery date is wildly pessimistic. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a lights-out marathon session on Halloween, to keep away the trick-or-treaters.

    I’m pro-all of them. :?:

I’d much rather SF work on:
    securing rights,
    developing quality artwork/extras, and
getting the sets out as quickly as possible

rather that working too hard on making the sets “balanced” 2×2 or contain what some may consider “better” episodes.

@#6 Joseph Nebus: Yeah, the AV Club’s running banner ads for it. Fairly awesome, methinks.

And The Onion AV Club mentioned in the New DVD Releases column that they’ll be reviewing the box set later this week, too.

    Handicapping Joel & Mike releases.

I checked out Travis Hosey’s Likelihood list at Ward E.

The average Joel Ep is slightly ‘more likely’ than the average Mike Ep, but they both fall between Possible and Possible / Likely.

What might give Mike the edge is that he has twice as many Extremely Likely Eps as Joel does ( and 2 of the SF release were Mikes rated Extremely Likely ). Funny, Mike also has more Extremely Unlikely Eps than Joel does too.

    Interesting distribution :

Joel Ep count — Mike Ep count, by Release Estimate

    01 — 00 Never
    06 — 24 Ext. Unlikely
    16 — 05 Not Likely
    06 — 03 Poss. / Not Likely
    10 — 08 Possible
    02 — 02 Poss. / Likely
    07 — 02 Likely
    08 — 15 Ext. Likely

    56 — 59 Total Unreleased
23 — 29 Total ‘Not Likely’ or worse
33 — 30 Total better than ‘Not Likely”

I love it when an item ships from your city to your city. Do I live next to a DVD warehouse that I don’t know about?
Can’t wait for more MST3k. As a Minnesotan living abroad (okay, actually just in Philly, but thats pretty far from home), the Best Brains team were more like neighbors than untouchable celebrities. The fact that half the main crew had some sort of connection to my family or a close friend makes it special, don’t y’know.

 I’ll be getting my dvd set sometime today and I can’t wait!! Getting a new MST3K box set is like Christmas and my birthday wrapped all into one..I’m glad EW reviewed it and that it’s getting a good amount of press, since none of the previous box sets were mentioned in past issues. Now,all EW needs to do is do an article on Cinematic Titanic in its next issue and that would be perfect! The more exposure the better! Also,Shout Factory needs to put out at least 3 box sets each year,if possible, with more extras and older episodes.Except for the KTMA eps,of course..Long live MST3K!!!!
