It was fun. For the History of Riffing, they covered a lot of familiar ground, although they did reveal that they’ve found at least one more Norman short that they’re working on. They talked a bit about the economics of what they choose to do, Bill would like to do more 80s films like Over The Top, but the problem is they can’t get/afford the rights and since people don’t own the DVDs, they don’t sell as well as modern films or stuff where they can sell the movie as well.

I did the one-on-one interview with Bill (which I think will be included on the CON commemorative DVD). We talked about his early career, doing theater in NYC, then moving to the midwest to teach at the Mpls Playwright’s Center, becoming aware of MST3k after he got invited to a party at the BBI studio, becoming a part-time writer during the transition, and coming back to the show after moving to LA when it got picked up.

After auditioning for Crow (and there was some talk that they might replace Crow with another character during the transition), he got the job on Friday and started shooting on Monday. We talked a bit about the development of the “world” of the SciFi seasons, moving between different fantasy worlds rather than staying in Deep 13. He admitted a fondness for the “home made” (my words) films like the Bill Rebane flicks and especially Final Justice because he liked the plucky spirit.

We talked a bit about Meet Dave, and how it went from being something in the spirit of Futurama that at one point had a pre-40 Year Old Virgin Steve Carrell attached into the film that got away from him.

The one 80’s film that is BEGGING to be riffed by them….Rocky IV.

I’m so hoping they do it.

Interesting Bill would mention “Over the Top” since that was solo Mike. I loved that Rifftrax a lot but it sounds like I might be one of a dozen people who bought that one.
