Scranton, Pa – Calling all fans of “Mystery Science Theater 3000!” Fresh off a visit from Joel Hodgson in February, the Scranton Cultural Center is thrilled to announce a brand new series this season: Bad Movie Thursdays with Mystery Science Theater 3000! Hosted by Christopher Cornell of Satellite News (mst3kinfo.com), the series will feature a different MST3K episode each month. The first installment will be on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Center’s Shopland Hall and will feature “MST3K: The Shorts.”

“MST3K: The Shorts” is a collection of dubious educational short films and hilarious commentary by the cast of “Mystery Science Theater 3000.” Featured films include: “What to Do on a Date,” “Once Upon a Honeymoon” and “A Case of Spring Fever.”

Show tickets are $10. A cash bar and light fare will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at the SCC Box Office, by calling (570) 344-1111, at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at select Wal-Mart, Boscov’s or Gallery of Sound locations. Visit the SCC’s website, www.ScrantonCulturalCenter.org, for more information and our complete schedule of events.

This basically happened in the wake of Joel’s visit here last spring. I suggested the idea (it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time) and to my delight they thought it was a great idea.

So, if you’re in the area, join us, won’t we?

So once you move into showing actual movies, I assume you are going to have to stick to public domain titles?

Cool! Hmm… Scranton isn’t too far out of my way. I can’t do Thursdays for the immediate future, but hopefully this will be the first of many.

Dan–the center handles the rights issues, but they can pay if necessary. I’m mostly picking titles I think the most people will enjoy.

February is in the “spring”? And all this time I thought the Vernal Equinox was in March… :-)

That sounds great. Masonic Temple no less.

It’s probably better that I am too far away. I would dress up like a sphinx and demand secret handshakes and phrases from those attending.

“I represent Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John! What’s the name of the satellite we’re on?! Lion! Man! Ox! And Eagle! Leonard Maltin’s beard is illegal!”

Then you’d have to kick me out before I had even a single drink.

Bad Movie Thursdays is a good name.

Sounds cool. I’d like to go, but it’s about two hours away from me. And I still haven’t even gotten to the Pheonixville Colonial for their showings, which I really should.

It’d be neat if you could get some of the other Best Brains involved. Maybe a Q&A session via Skype.

The movie theater seats might not be too comfortable because…No Springs!

    Sampo, just curious…

Why didn’t you post a notice when I sent you an email about MST3K: TM playing in Columbus, Ohio a few weeks ago? Attendance was rather light. Perhaps if more Ohio MSTies had known they would have sold the thing out, who knows.

Generalist–my sincerest apologies. I meant to. But my life was a bit in turmoil at the time and it slipped my mind. Again, terribly sorry.

Sampo – sounds like fun, wish I could be there. Maybe if you get good enough at this, Rifftrax will let you be their opening act.

This is so cool! I used to volunteer as an usher at the Masonic Temple when I was a teen. Sadly, I live on Long Island now, and won’t be able to make it. I have alerted all my Mistie friends that still live in the area!

I can’t make it to this month’s show, as I’ll be in Milwaukee for the following night’s CT show. But I’ll certainly keep it mind for the future. And I’m sure my Mom, who lives in Wayne County, will put me up for the visit.

By the way, any chance Joel can do another show in Scranton? (Weather kept me away from the last one.) And, even though it’s late in the year, any chance they could book CT before the end of the tour?

i cant believe the chances that i happened to look at this today. in Scranton, none the less! i definitely will be trying to attend. there is no age requirement, correct? because if so, I might be interested in getting the gifted group i belong to at trail to go for a “academic and theatrical” after school field trip.

Also, more importantly, you should be made aware that that will be on international talk like a pirate day, which is a sacred holiday that i partake in. i think you should play a pirate themed episode, or at least make sure the people that are there are notified to the momentous occasion.

Is anyone else hearing the theme from “The Office” in their head right now? ‘Cause I am!

Hm…. maybe you could try and have this in Washington State. Nudge, nudge.
