Update: Joel/Trace/Josh Inducted into Horror Host Hall of Fame

The votes are in and they won! But they won’t actually officially inducted until next year. But still! Congrats, fellas.

Thanks to Laura for the heads up.

Offtopic, but appalling for Gumby short fans, Stephen Colbert did
a segment on Gumby lawn sculptures being stolen. here’s an example
    of the vandals/pranksters/whatever:
    =====================================================================================
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — An icon has gone missing from a Saugerties lawn over the weekend, and the owners of a giant Gumby replica are begging for it to be returned.

Bob Malkin says he had a giant 7-foot tall Gumby sculpture made by a local artist three years ago. He says it’s been a place of joy, where families have taken photos with the American classic from the Adventures of Gumby.

But early Sunday morning, Malkin discovered someone had stolen the sculpture, and Saugerties Police are now investigating.

“My daughter who was here heard the noise, heard a commotion. The dog started to bark. Unfortunately I was in a deep sleep and didn’t get up in time to stop them,” Malkin says.

He says the statue cost about $1,000 and is made of Styrofoam.

“There’s no monetary value in it. It’s just I think it was a prank and it’s mean. Just mean spirited,” he said. “Bring him home. No questions asked.”

Malkin is offering a $100 reward for any information that could lead to the safe return of Gumby.

    Good for J&TB!

I see a hero from my childhood Dr. Shock (Philadelphia legend Joseph Zawislak) is also on the ballot.

I think Rob Zombie should get honorable mention just for his looks.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Josh is a funny guy and I appreciate his contributions to the show, but lets be honest it should be Joel, Trace, and Kevin. Mike and Frank too obviously. But Kevin was waaaaay more important to the show than Josh ever was.

Congratulations to Joel, Trace & Josh. Now, since they’re being nominated for the KTMA shows, would Mike, Kevin & Bill be eligible for the Sci-Fi shows?

Oh, and I noticed that Uncle Ted of “Uncle Ted’s Ghoul School” was nominated. I remember watching his show on Channel 16 during my summer vacations in Northeast PA.

Also nominated is the Cryptkeeper, as played by John Kassir in the various shows in that franchise.

Certainly an interesting thing to see! Go vote for your favorite!

My horror host when I was a kid turned out to be a child molester. He was the most horrored horror host of them all. :(

Great to see the original trio, and there are 5 more from the greatest show ever that deserve it as well. Nice to see my childhood host Bob Wilkins of Creature Features on KTVU as a 2012 inductee!

Doctor Shock in Philadelphia was great ’50s entertainment, and featured
some classic black and white 1950s scifi, including The Thing From Another
World (with marshall Dillon as the veg monster and Kenneth Toby), and many
other that era classics (some featured on MST3000). Btw, TTFAW was an example
of less is more, a way better film then the later graphic color remakes (which
were closer to the original short story but poorer films, using the concept of
showing little and letting the viewer’s imagination do the work (like the shark
    barely appearing in Jaws).

I apologize for this really stupid question:

Does voting for Joel, Josh, and Trace count as 1 vote or 3? ?:-) I ask because they’re the only ones I’ve heard of on that entire list. The closest “host” that would have been broadcast where I live was Dr. Shock, and I have no idea who that is. Also, I’m not a horror fan at all. I want to vote, but I’ve no idea who any of those people are beyond Joel, Josh, and Trace. :-?

Well, at least Commander USA got in in 2013. (“Until next week, keep your nose to the wind…and your tail to yourself.”)
I remember watching the last Saturday afternoon season of Groovie Movies at 12, right after the Saturday morning Comedy Channel 10am airing of S1-2, and the first MST3K’s seemed like the new horror hosts taking over for the old ones.
(And yes, I remember Grandpa, too, but seemed like Ted Turner just wasn’t getting it.)

@9 “which local host was this. sound awful. ”
“Count Justin Sane” of Shock Theater in Augusta GA. (goooogle, if you DARE…!) I always thought HE was a little goofy and the MOVIES were really really scary…? Well, switch that around and the pee pee on the fan’s childhood begins. :( I feel horrible for the kids involved. It reminds me of that British show host that was found out recently, Jimmy Savile. The REAL horrors… I could even have gone up there myself, all wide eyed eager to meet that freak. then my life would have been changed forever.

Right now, I’m watching “American Scary”, a very interesting and very fun documentary about local horror movie hosts. Joel contributes some comments, there’s some complimentary words about MST3K, but no footage of the show, due to a miscommunication with BBI.

I appreciate you mentioning this. Placed on my Netflix list. I hope Gorgon is featured in it. He was before my time, but I’ve seen some clips and Camfield was the real deal. A truly horrific horror host in the late 50s.
