Report on Joel at Rowan University

Here’s a great report by Pete Imbesi about Joel’s recent movie riffing class at Rowan Uninversity.

Thanks to Eric for the heads up.

“It’s very likely that we’ll make more ‘Mystery,’” Hodgson said. “But with an all new cast, new characters, new movies and the original guys producing.”

That might be the one big takeaway from the piece. :)
Not that it’s relaunching, but the original cast is producing the show.

“The secret is to never say no,” Hodgson said. “Never once say, ‘that’s not a good idea.’”
Wait, earlier in the article he said “no” to Hollywood and their TV show a couple of times. Maybe he regrets it or changed his outlook on projects? We need a follow up Q and A! What’s the deal, Joel? Would love to see Riffing Myself sometime.

Wouldn’t “original guys producing” only mean Producers Joel and Jim?

I’ve seen Joel’s show a couple of times, and it is definitely worth seeing.

Oh that’s funny! The Aquanauts had the best opening theme song!
Wish someone would have recorded the riffs for the PA Fish Commission short.

The context of that seems to be that when you’re being creative you are probably better served to let ideas through, and not shut them out too hastily. Note his advice about writing down everything that comes to mind. An idea may not be usable as it is, or when you first think of it, but it might be usable in a new context or adapted and combined with another idea.

I was at the Colonial for that show, and I agree with you. They did a pretty good job. There must be some kind of rights agreement involved in not releasing it on video or on-line.

I took that to mean members of the original show producing instead of the original producers…producing. At this point I guess it’s open to interpretation. But last I heard, the RT gang seemed unattached at this point so maybe it is just Joel and Jim. Just saying the way it’s phrased doesn’t exclude the possibility of a Frank or Paul producing.

Looks cute, and I got the gist of it from the visuals, but I can’t understand a word they’re singing. :) Most I got was, “…and his boy, Chip.”
