Didn’t we already know MST3K DVDs are great?

Let’s hope it’s a win this time, because as we all know, “A nomination without a win spells one word- LOSER!”

Kidding, of course – very well-deserved! Congratulations!

Well, with what its up against…the MST3K set should easily win.

ABBOTT & COSTELLO (Complete Universal Series Collection) (Universal)

DIRTY HARRY (Ultimate Collector’s Edition) (Warner)

GHOST HOUSE Underground Eight Film Collection (Lionsgate)

THE GODFATHER (The Coppola Restoration) (Paramount)

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (20th Anniversary Edition) (Shout Factory)

PLANET OF THE APES 40TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION (Blu Ray) (Fox)

I love the Godfather, but when you think that the trilogy suffers from the third movie, the edge goes to MST3K. Dirty Harry is okay, but it can’t beat MST3K. It will be interesting to see if it can win.

Looking at the lineup, I would say this might be one of those honor-to-be-nominated things. I know that I put MST up there with the Godfather, but it’s nice to see I’m not the only one. :)

The Saturn Awards? Does it really even matter?

I drive a Saturn, so shouldn’t I get an award too?

I think the restoration of The Godfather will win, mostly because I would hate to think about what will happen to the “Saturn Awards” if it loses…if you know what I mean ;-)

Maybe i’ll win. It;d be nice knowing that MST3K has won somethng other than a Peabody 9even if that is considered the greatest achievement award ever)

Aren’t the Saturn awards for SciFi? What do Abbott and Costello, Godfather and dirty Harry have to do with SciFi? (or ScvFy.

Yeah, I know that A&C mad a couple of genre flicks, but the majority had nothing to do with it.

And i don’t know what Ghost House is…sorry.

I’d bet they’d win the Uranus Award. (Maybe I’ll start that – there isn’t one already, is there?)

I’d be hopeful if the set wasn’t interlaced. A interlaced DVD in 2008 isn’t winning jack. Sorry Shout….maybe you can help a progressive brother out….

I hate to say it, but the 20th anniversary MST3K DVD doesn’t deserve to win. I like it an everything, but let’s be honest here, it’s not spectacular or anything.

I would give the award to the Godfather DVD sets. I got it on Blu-Ray when it was first released. I know this sounds like a blurb to put on a DVD box, but it really was like seeing the movie for the first time.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but the new “Godfather” release is incredible. It’s like a new movie compared to the DVD or cable (AMC) prints. The new release makes the expressions of Pacino, Caan, and Keaton come alive like they’re acting on stage. It’s really amazing. If the Saturn awards are judged on technical achievement, the Coppola Restoration deserve to win.

But, if the Saturn Awards are based on sci-fi coolness and awesomeness, as they should be, then “MST3K” deserves to win. The new DVD sets are really well done and packaged. Plus, is there a better show ever? Coppola was talented, but his movies never had a Mitchell, Winky, Rowsdower, Ryder, Krankor, Keller, or Rommel.

You know what would win some awards? MST3K:TM on blu-ray with all the extras we’ve been clamoring for since day one–deleted scenes ftw. Not that it’s better than any of the episodes, but it’s in demand and is a teeny-weeny bit more accessible to the average viewer.

According to a post her on satellite news, a 1080p print is available and is being shown on the movie channels. I can’t find it online to download it, so I’d be more than happy to shell out the cash.

I agree with MikeK. The DVD was cool, but it has some problems. Like why wasn’t there a scene selection option? Why was it so difficult to get the DVD case out of the tin? Why so little special features? Why was there only one episode with Joel? Why didn’t they choose key episodes to represent the series? This is what it should have been like:
    1 The Crawling Eye
2 I’m not so sure about this one, I would say Mitchell, or Manos The Hands Of Fate but they were already released.
    3 Laserblast
    4 Diabolik
Other wise it was awesome

I concurr with #9. I thought the Saturn awards were supposed to be for sci-fi, horror or something genre related. Aside from Ghost House and Planet of the Apes, The other nominations have no business being on the Saturn list at all.
Besides, as great as the 20th anniversary set is, that is primarily in comparison the the other almost barebones releases we’ve had up till then. The others have far more special features and will likely win.

In general, the thinking behind the nominations must be this:

DVDs = technology = nerds = sci-fi, therefore anything of a remotely geeky nature is eligible.
