Ditto, PRFAKARTR. I’m sure the main reason so many strong opinions against Hedorah’s idea are bogging down this thread is that very few posts rallying against an idea that someone kept going on about might seem to validate said idea.
This sort bitter schism is a shame since all of us die-hards, Hedorah included, would sorta’ like to see the KTMAs officially released uncut (in which case, TSM would apparently just fast forward a lot), but we all realize just how slim the odds are of this ever happening. The reason so many of us reacted so violenty to his proposal, is that he stumbled onto the million-dollar-idea that would actually make those odds WORSE if Shout! seriously tried it.
I appreciate Cliff sticking up for civility in our discussions, but if anyone here actually thinks Shout! releasing the KTMA eps edited down to the equivalent of Coke Zero to make them slightly more palletable to the casual fan is actually a good idea, please throw in your 2 cents and actually defend it, since I don’t think anyone has.
Yes, I realize this thread is a week old and hardly anyone’s reading this, so any lack of response to that challenge won’t prove anything either…

Oh, sorry. Hedorah was the actual name of the Smog Monster, though I don’t recall if he was ever called that in the dub of “Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster”. I should have realized a lot of MSTies aren’t huge Gojira fans, and just wanted to refrain from repeating “The Smog Monster” over and over, for the sake of avoiding monotony. My bad if any confusion undermined the point I was trying to make.

Nobody is going to release an episode of season K, in any form – even my idea, so there is no sense in getting worked up for any solution. (See comment #95)
I’d like to suggest to the good people of SF that they should really not dismiss the KTMA episodes. Instead, should a title from the KTMA era become accessible, and Jim Mallon gives his blessings on using the footage from the episode, then market the episode with another “unusual” item (such as another figurine) and make it a deluxe edition. Anyone not caring for the extra could buy the scaled-down release ala The 20th Anniversary Edition. Or, put it on iTunes or some other downloadable site, there will be a market for it. But just don’t give a “gee, it’s too difficult to get because of this and that” kind of answer; out of the 18 or so episodes known to exist, I’m sure the owner of ONE of those movies could be talked into a deal using the MST3K treatment. (I know the Gamera movies fall under the same owner, but that would still leave about 10 possible different film distributor possibilities.) At this point, I don’t care if part of the riffing involves J&tB eating a meal; I would LOVE to have a KTMA episode, unedited, on a SF-produced DVD.
Look, I’m in no way knocking Jordan or Brian by saying all of this; I’m thrilled that MST3K is in their hands, and I know that the efforts they make to bring a quality product to MSTies are immense. But Jordan’s response to the question about the chances of KTMA showing up in a future volume left me shaking my head. I just wish the notion was taken alittle more seriously.
Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I’m more of a visual learner.
