Meanwhile, at Rifftrax…

Rifftrax has gone into quiet mode as Mike, Kevin and Bill prepare for their live riff of “Plan 9 from Outer Space” in San Francisco (“San Franciscky? How did you come? Did you drove or did you flew?”) this week.

But the site is making noises about the Rifftrax player, which is still in beta but seems to be pretty well finalized and ready to use. Seems pretty neat. If you’ve been holding off, this might be a good time to check it out. (Still no Mac version yet… )

  1. The end of quie-tude approaches! The next few weeks will see the live Plan 9 Riff, Plan 9 released as a proper RiffTrax, the fan written Batman & Robin, a new short and…a big announcement.

… and hopefully abandonment of DIVX so the rest of us can enjoy the shorts!

  4. Yes, yes, we all know that DRM “is the suck.” Short purchases will include a regular MP3 that you can use to watch a riff like a normal RiffTrax, or create your own video file if you so desire.

My email is always open if you have a suggestion for VOD systems that will work without DRM.

In the future, we hope to be able to make some of the movies that we’ve riff’d available as On Demand video files. The probability of this happening on a system that does not involve some sort of DRM scheme = 0. (as seen on today’s Boing Boing entry about CT, even the rights holders of movies that you had never heard of a month of ago are paranoid about online distribution.) Using Divx increases the chance of us being able to provide more of our customers with a product that’s easier to enjoy. Our MP3s have always been DRM free, because we know that our customers and fans will do the right thing and enjoy the freedom the format gives them, and those who wouldn’t anyway, won’t.

Is it perfect? No. But we hope to make it as easy as possible for as many of our customers as we can.

STILL laughing at the “Sid Dithers” quote….. wasn’t he a P.I.

Well, I guess my whining is that if the shorts are public domain, there’s nothing stopping you from providing these VOD directly from your own servers, just like your regular MP3 files. As for feature movies, I can understand why we might be stuck with DRM and as long as the MP3 files are always available, I don’t care.

Look, this is about love. I buy everything that you guys produce and this is just me wanting to make sure that I don’t miss a single riff! *sniff*

Hey, you might want to update your site concerning Kevin’s dog. Unless this was old news.

I believe that’s correctly spelled “teh suk.” :-)

    Thanks for the preview!
