RIP Wolfgang Kohlhaase

Berlin, Germany– German film director Wolfgang Kohlhaase, known for “Solo Sunny” (1980), “The Break” (1989) and “Summer in Berlin” (2005), died Oct. 5. He was 91.

MSTies may be aware that he was one of the screenwriters who adapted the Stanislaw Lem novel “The Astronauts” into the movie in episode 211- FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS.

There are a few obits on the web but so far all of them are in German.

Thanks to Gordon for the heads up.

Herr Kohlhaase must have been in the good graces of the East German Communist Bloc regime, but he still managed to help create a really “out there” film. RIP

Stanislaw Lem repudiated the adaptation of his novel, which Kohlhaase apparently had a hand in.
