Not-So-MST3K-Related CD Released

It’s not strictly MST-related, but a new CD titled “Invasion USA” has just been released by the alternative/punk band The Riverdales. In addition to the CD itself, 12 of the 14 tracks have MSTed movie titles for names. You can hear samples over on Amazon.

I dunno… I swore I caught a reference to “Turkeys” in “Gemini Man”.

And their song “Red Zone Cuba” is much peppier than “Night Train To Mundo Fine”…

The guy on vocals likes to be called, “Daddy-O.” Insert sarcastic that-was-a-joke smiley face here.

“Royce Explorer” was the name of the satellite Agent Sam Casey retreived from the ocean floor, according to the backstory of “Riding with Death”.

Something tells me that he cover of the Riverdales’ album is dripping with more easter eggs like that.

Seems to be mp3 only? I’d buy it for my OCDMST3K collection, but files aren’t very collectible. :)

Produced by Asian Man Records–very cool company, did a lot of ska records back in the day, such as the awesome Misfits of Ska compilations.

“Heart out of season” is the only one I don’t get, is that a reference to something? Anyways, just looked at the track listings on Amazon, that is so cool. They must really love the show to fo this. Royce Explorer is an obscure reference that I wouldn’t have gotten myself unless someone here pointed it out. I’ve downloaded MP3s from Amazon before, I’m definitely going to buy a few of these tracks, :)

Post #8: I agree, the question mark must be a reference to the end of The She Creature.

Hey Erhardt, thanks very much for the plug!

Yeah, I am a big MST fan going back to the early 90s when Johnny Ramone recommended the show to me – he loved MST! We had occasional MST references on our early albums as well but never a full-blown theme like this.

Heart Out Of Season isn’t a reference to anything – just a neat ballad my bandmate wrote.

Werewolf One isn’t a reference to Werewolf. It’s a sort of obscure reference from a 70s movie that got two Academy Award nominations.

We already have most of the next album written – Rowsdower will indeed receive a nod or three. Thanks for your interest and support! If anybody’s in or near Madison WI we’re doing an album release show at the Majestic on the 25th!

“Gemini Man” is the name of the TV series that “Riding With Death” was spliced together from.

After hearing the samples off of Amazon, I think I’d like to get the CD eventually. I agree with #12, their style is very Ramones-ish, which isn’t a bad thing.

Definitely check out the asianmanrecords.com website. I may have to get the CD now. :) I love the nerd/pop-culture-influenced rock, such as Ookla the Mok.
