Welp. I remember somebody asking on a previous comments thread “Why are they still planning to go back to Kickstarter instead of just doing the fundraiser themselves?” and evidently they had the same idea. No Kickstarter this time.

Hope that works out; it means they’ll need to do more to promote it themselves, but it also means they’ll get to pocket a much bigger share of the money they raise.

Im in at the $85 level, so I can get all of Season 14.

Inevitable, considering the Season 13 cliffhanger.

The resolution of the cliffhanger of Season 11 in Season 12 got some groans.

Do want reviews of MST3K episodes and Rifftrax movies and shorts?

  4. Still think they should have gone with the tease at the end of S12, where Jonah escapes to join one of the tours–
Which was probably setting up the stage tour that gave us Sweet Emily Ham, but could have been an early idea to film live-concert episodes.

Now that the Cinematic Titanic episodes are on TubiTV, you can see a shift in energy between the grumpy, grudging this-movie-sucks humor of the Film Crew-style in-studio Titanics vs. the ability to play to audiences in the later live-concert episodes.
And frankly, the seasons could use a bit more of THAT, than in shoveling more mean-girl comics to try and navel-gaze their own Gizmoverse out of all proportions.

(And hopefully, we get either a little less ear-bending, or turning down the volume knob a bit, by Kelsey’s sprightly, impish, ever-perky Mr. B. Crow…Knew your father, he did!)

I’m in at the get my name in the credits of one episode level for as many seasons as they keep doing.
Question: Where within this new fundraising platform can we see the running total raised?

You can see the total raised on the main fundraising page and here: https://showmaker.mst3k.com/profiles/mystery-science-theater-3000 .

I think I’ll wait until they announce a “digital classics” tier. They waited until a couple weeks in to introduce that one and goose donations during the last two fundraisers, so I expect that will be the strategy again this time.

Of course, it’s possible that *is* the $85 tier (like the last two times) and they’ll just add the classic episodes to the rewards at the existing $85 level. We’ll see.

That was me, and it’s looking like I made that wish on a monkey’s paw, because the pledging is rather sluggish.

  9. The riffing isn’t attracting me (although Producer Joel seems to be making peace with doing shorts again), so much as the Surgical Enhancements.

Remastering videotape is still hit-or-miss depending on the professional studio, but it’s more possible now than it used to be back in the “Why won’t they put my favorite series on Blu?” 00’s, and if they’re thinking a Star Trek-style hi-def remastering, that might actually put classic-episode Blu-ray sets not too far out of the imagination…

(Wait, which was the episode they had to apologize for only having the VHS-glitch print of–Was it Teenage Caveman, or Rocket Attack USA?)

Regarding this statement in the update:
“the SAG-AFTRA strike prevents us from starting negotiations or making offers right now”
Since this show is being produced independently, and not under the aegis of any studio or network that is part of the AMPTP, this is not accurate? They could make their own SAG arrangement any time they want. So this seems like a lie, either to postpone negotiations, or for some other odd reason? Any ideas?

According to the current FAQ, “We stand in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA members on strike, and we will not begin production on Season 14 until the strike has been resolved.” Hopefully things will be worked out soon.

This still seems incomplete, I would think that the best way to support actors would be to sign an agreement with SAG and then hire and pay said actors, nothing is stopping them. There’s something fishy about it.

I certainly think we’ll get some new episodes. Right now I don’t feel too good about getting the “full” 12. But it is still early days in this thing. Unfortunately, I’m not much help to them in getting the word out as I have zero presence on social media. I’m sure they are counting on donors doing their publicity for them in that regard since they don’t have the might of Kickstarter to help there.
I certainly understand the thinking behind going with a platform that takes a smaller cut of the money raised. Certainly, there is a “crossover” point where the lower amount raised wasn’t worth the reduced overall total. I fear this might backfire. I hope I’m wrong.

As a small independent production that isn’t (presumably) part of AMPTP, the option to go forward very well might exist from a legal standpoint. But:
    A) Legal or otherwise it could still result in some sort of blowback even if not warranted. The cancel culture doesn’t always make the distinction of legality when going after someone. So why risk it?
    B) Joel and company may be making this stand on personal principle even if they have the option to go forward. Whether or not you or I agree with this (possible) principaled stand doesn’t take away their right to make it.

I’ll stress here I have no knowledge if A or B above is correct. I’m also trying real hard to not to inject my personal opinion. My aim is to point out possible and plausible reasons why they might be choosing the route they are.

I just took the plunge. Three weeks to go and we are at 29% – I know the big push is yet to come and I believe 6 episodes are do-able. I’m not sure 12 eps are going to happen. Didn’t Joel keep sweetening the pot every few days in the past? I guess we’ll just have to wait.
