That’s two movies with Roger Corman’s fingerprints on them. Seasonal theme or coincidence?

Who is going to be the host of this episode?

How would Joel know about what happened during the Sci-Fi era when he was not involved?

By the way, the episode he refers to is “Batwoman” not “Batgirl.”

    Season 13 got mixed reviews.

For those people here who are interested in reviews of MST3K movies and Rifftrax movies and shorts, go to “Faith’s Take” on Youtube.com.

    She’s smart, funny, and clever.

The same way as anybody else who wasn’t involved: by hearing about it from the people who were.

GVN: Fingers are very crossed. I really liked last season, what you guys did with the Gizmoplex. With that season, the Gizmoplex was a really big part of the narrative as well as what you guys were doing behind the scenes. I’m curious if you’re still planning on going that route this time around.

Joel Hodgson: “Well, I think now that it’s a known quantity with the fanbase, we don’t have to spend so much time doing any exposition on it. In this fundraiser, what’s unique is we are announcing the movies we’ve cleared, as we go. We’ve announced two of the features. One is Battle Beyond the Stars and the other is Deathsport, I think it’s called. It’s a David Carradine movie; it’s not to be confused with Death Race.

In doing that, we also started to lay out what the season would be like. My memory is not so much about the Gizmoplex. It’s more about all the characters, you know what I mean? Besides job one, which is movie riffing, we always try to lay in some narrative. So that’s kind of it. My impression is we’re not really going to spend a lot of time on [the Gizmoplex], as we did last season.”

That’s a heck of a pivot on the importance of the Gizmoplex to both the internet presence of MST3K and the storyline of the show. Also interesting that the big sales point so far in this fundraiser is “We’re going to tell you the movies!” since Joel was adamantly opposed to naming movies before Season 13.

Or cheap availability and stubborn refusal to show 4:3 B/W films from the 50’s?

DEFINITELY not (as DR2K was actually pretty good), although it is considered to be the unofficial “sequel”, with motorcycles. And without humor.

I think you’re thinking of season 11. Joel didn’t name the upcoming movies because he wanted it to be a surprise; the list leaked anyway, which I think led him to realize you can’t really keep stuff like that under wraps in the Internet age.

For season 13, they revealed the episode list during the Turkey Day marathon.
