That really is a good idea. Too bad it’s gotta be explained in 25 words or less. I would have quoted the Lou Reed song lyrics. I think S.O.L. itself is a great name for a satellite though too. It was the name of the laser satellite in Akira.
Right, “Babylon 5” it is!
Oh, wait…
DAMN IT
Gamera!!!!
I submitted Satellite of Love — come on, everyone, it’s easy!!
My explanation was “a reminder of the love between the countries involved” (France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, and the U.S).
My reason: “It’s universal, unforgettable and everyone will be talking about a Satellite of Love. (and aliens are less likely to destroy us if they encounter it.)
Everyone better do this… I’m pumped! “Satellite of Love” has been submitted on my end as well.
Mine: “Love” not “war”. Not political.Adventure & discovery should be represented by the happier things in life.

I went with a semi-biblical “Love thy neighbor” angle in my Satellite of Love suggestion.
My reason, “Why not?”
I submitted the following:
MIssion To Investigate Gamma And Tremendous Energy astronomy
Rather sweet, don’t you think, considering that the resultant data will MITIGATE (ie., moderate) all existing information that is currently “known” about Gamma rays?
