RIP Brian Wilson

— Brian Wilson, the musical savant who scripted a defining Southern California soundtrack with a run of hit songs with the Beach Boys before being pulled down a rabbit hole of despair and depression when his highly anticipated masterwork was shelved unfinished, has died. He was 82.

Among his many hits, Wilson who co-wrote the song “I Get Around,” which was sung in the “swing choir” host segment in episode 609?-THE SKYDIVERS

People Magazine has the story.

Thanks to Timmy for the heads up.

My favorite music artist. In my 49 years, I’ve seen two concerts. The Beach Boys in 1986 and Brian in 2016. I turned into a Brian Wilson obsessive in the 1990s and have been able to witness the renaissance of his career as well as legacy-building releases like “The Pet Sounds Sessions” from 1997, 2011’s “The Smile Sessions” and the biopic “Love & Mercy”, released in the U.S. 10 years ago, last week. The fact that he outlived his brother Dennis (d. 1983) and Carl (d. 1998) by so many years is a testament to his last name. He once told Mike Douglas in 1976 that, ‘my last name is Wilson, I guess I’ve got a lot of will’. There are so many artists that pass, and you wonder what they were like and who they really were. With Brian, I think you don’t have to wonder. He was in his music, that’s where you’ll find him – forever.

I actually got to see “Love and Mercy” at the Toronto Film Festival years ago. It was fascinating to learn at least a bit about Brian Wilson. You wouldn’t think of John Cusack as Wilson usually, but he did a great job with the portrayal. R.I.P.

Not to mention the Beach Boys-style “ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh” vocals in the theme song.

RIP to a true original and a pioneer.

Okay I am very envious. The cut that played at TIFF in 2014 is slightly longer than the one that went into general release in 2015. Cusack was great. Dano was sensational!
