New Rifftrax Short

In what is starting to become a pattern, Friday night has brought with it a new Rifftrax short, this time a double feature: “Why Doesn’t Cathy Eat Breakfast/Petaluma Chicken.”

Here’s a sample.

cathy-petaluma
This one is a Divx file. You buy it, Rifftrax then emails you a link that will allow you to download a small “.tix” file. Once you have downloaded it, open it with your Divx Player to download the actual file, which you can then watch on your computer using your Divx Player or burn to a CD which you can then play on a Divx-enabled media player.

Looks like the whole DRM-free experiment thing didn’t work out quite the way I’d hoped.

Maybe she’s one of the Horrors of Party Beach, and fears whatever amounts of sodium are in breakfast foods lol.

YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!! This is actually the latest Cinematic Riff Crew episode! That’s crazy, because we were writing the lunchroom manners one when they did that! Jeebus! (It’s kinda strange because I do recall emailing Josh Gemma and he told me “Thanks for the links. I will forward them on to Mike so he has them.” when I emailed Mike about a possible guest-starring.

An enjoyable Rifftrax, but I would’ve loved to have heard at least one “My spoon is too big!” reference (or does no one else like Bitter Films?).

adoptadog, I was thinking the same thing when watching the short. I guess it’s times like this I wish there was a larger writing staff for Riff Trax, kinda like how it was on MST. Greater chance there’d be a Don Hertzfeldt fan in the room, at least.

I’m sure this is a question with an absurdly simple answer that I could find elsewhere, but since I’m here… can these Divx files be downloaded onto iTunes and played on an iPod? Thanks!

    To Mike:

I think DRM will keep you from watching the Divx shorts on your iPod. However, The Terrible Truth is DRM-free and can be played on your iPod. Maybe if enough people buy it, the fans will prove that Rifftrax can make enough of a profit without limiting the way the On Demand shorts are presented.

Thanks for the info, FordPerfect! I know there are a few other sites that have finally decided to go DRM-free. I wasn’t sure if RiffTrax had gone ‘all-in’ with that, or was picking and choosing which of their releases would and wouldn’t be DRM-free, or what. Now I know!

When I bought it, I only got the audio. What gives?

Tom, go to the Rifftrax website, go to files I ordered/downloaded, and then go to that and watch it from there. Otherwise you have to find it online and sync up the mp3. The first way will open up DIVX and do let you see it there

You know, since it’s vague whether or not these guys will be making any more “Film Crew” dvd’s, why don’t they just release a bunch of these shorts on dvd? And REAL dvd’s- not like “Cinematic Titanic” is doing with the burned/stickered dvd’s. Shout Factory- hello!

  14. Josh says:

Cinematic Titanic is selling pressed DVDs, not burned/stickered DVDs.

Really? I was under the impression that they were burned copies (and I’m pretty sure it was the website that sells the dvd’s that gave me that impression). I guess I’ll have to order me a copy! I’ve been wanting to see it but I wasn’t paying $12 for something I could make at home.

It’s not possible to burn The Terrible Truth to a DVD, is it? It doesn’t show up in the DivX movie list like the other shorts do. If it is possible to burn this short to a DVD, could someone explain how to do it?

On the few occasions that I was unable to burn something on a dvd I burned a vcd instead- most cd burning programs have this option (I use Nero). It more or less burns a dvd-type file on a recordable compact disc but you can play it in your dvd player. So if you can’t get a dvd to burn, try seeing if your cd burning software has a vcd option.
