No. I bought the first one when it was just Mike. I bought the RiffTrax version with Mike, Bill and Kevin. I’m not buying it a third time.

But if you’re like me and didn’t buy it before, now is as good a time as ever to get it. :D

I’m not sure I’d buy it either, I figure they probably tell the same jokes as the non live edition (which recycled jokes from Mike’s solo efforts) Looks like they’re trying to compete with CT a little more (ie DVD releases & live shows)

You also don’t need to buy the DVD to enjoy Rifftrax. Netflix is my primary method of watching riffs.

And the shorts a great for MST3K fans and come pre-synced.

Picked this up and it shipped today. Though it is disappointing that I had to do it this way since neither showing made it to theaters up in Alaska.

It is truly devastating to have lost/never gained your business (?).

For everyone else who enjoys our work, here’s a gift certificate code for a free RiffTrax, first come, first served: caNegabmrxGx

@Conor – the code doesn’t work. Guess they’re already gone. *sad trombone*

@Laura – I’ve only purchased the Star Wars Holiday Special RiffTrax. It was a big project to make my own DVD (I happen to be the type of patient geek that enjoyed figuring out the process), but I can see why the format wouldn’t appeal to everyone. As has been mentioned, they do sell a few DVDs that are ready to go.

A live version of this movie really seems redundant. If I buy this version, I’ll have a b/w version of it, a colorized version of it, a Mike riffed version of it, and a Mike, Bill and Kevin riffed version of it. It seems a bit much…

  12. Travis says:

Personally, since I haven’t purchased any riffed version yet, I’m definitly going for the live version. It was so much fun.
Although not sure if having the “uncut” commericals is really worth promoting…

I didn’t get the original….but this should bring back the great memories of the live show!

@ Bat Masterson : I don’t trust Netflix either!!….did you know ‘netflix’ is Lithuanian for ‘Hitler’? and that Hitler once owned a goat named Nettyflugel? Coincidence?

What does this DVD look like? Is it like the Cinematic Titanic live DVD, where you can see the performers and hear the audience, or is it just the movie with the riffs?

  16. Conor @ RiffTrax says:

There should be a sample up on the product page soon.

Our show was professionally shot with multiple cameras and a crane, but those are only utilized during the between movie parts (introductions, songs, etc). For the most part, during the movie, it is just like watching a DVD of the movie, and every so often the guys are shown on screen next to it. The stage parts are in widescreen, but Plan 9 and the short are both full frame, as they were originally shot that way.

Hey Conor, I don’t trust Netflix or Rifftrax either.

And, uh, Ferrari, same deal. Give me a car!

Is there a way to get a date with Jessica Biel out of this? I don’t trust her either!

  18. Conor @ RiffTrax says:

No Ferrari’s here! And no more free riffs, for the time being. But here’s a sample of the Live DVD, shows a good mix of the stage show, what the movie looks like and the insets of the three guys riffing (which are probably only up for 5-10% of the movie)

Oh man, I may have to buy Plan 9 again? I’m not sure I’m crazy about Rifftrax and CT releasing their live shows on DVD. I kind of like the “private” atmosphere of just me and whichever crew I’m watching. I didn’t mean that to sound dirty. Oh, and when will Rifftrax do some shows elsewhere around the country? I got to meet the CT crew when they came here, and it would be AWESOME to get the chance to meet the RT crew, which is my favorite team from MST3K. I mean, there is this little city nearby that may have just enough fans to make a show worthwhile. It’s called Chicago, I don’t know if anyone’s heard of it.

How about Des Moines, way more MST3K fans than Chicago. Also, Jack Kerouac said our women are pretty hot.

I have the Mike-only version, but I held off on getting the three-riffer version. Looks like a good decision on my part; now I can get this one instead. Are the songs included?

Me, I’ve currently got Plan 9 on DVD from Passport, Image, Legend (w/Mike – both regular edition and autographed), and Rifftrax/Legend. I’ve also got it on VHS from Rhino and as an extra feature on the video game “Destroy All Humans”. Lastly, I’ve got a lovely vintage Super 8 movie.

So, I guess I’ll buy this one. What’s one more? (Since I saw it live, I can wait a bit in hopes of a price drop, though.)

  23. Oh, yeah, the original film is also a bonus feature on Ernie “Hardware Wars” Fosselius’ “Plan 9.1 From Outer Space”. I’ve got that, too. Which makes eight different releases of the film in my current collection.

LOL! This is cool, though it does seem to be Rifftrax’s way of saying to CT, “Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than you.” CT’s presense in the professional world of riffing has really seemed to motivate the folks at Rifftrax. The quality and freqency of new releases has been terrific, and they seem willing to tackle everything CT does and more. However, I wish Rifftrax would do a national tour. I loved the CT show I attended… I’ve never had the chance to attend a Rifftrax performance.

Competition, Schmompetition – anything and everything these guys continue to do just equals good as far as I’m concerned. Only trolls pick sides.

As far as this version of “Plan 9/Rifftrax Live” – this is just awesome pie. I’ve heard previous riffs of the Wood “classic”, but this was hysterical in its very own way. But that’s the truth about ANY live performance – it’s never the same either before or after.

I am so getting this. I can’t trust Santa to get it for me, what with that ol’ devil Pitch on his butt.
