Frank for Guest Programmer

Our pal Bill Stiteler has started a Facebook page to rally supporters to urge Turner Classic Movies to have Frank Coniiff be one of their “guest programmers.” As you probably know, Frank has an encyclopedic knowledge of movies and we think he’d be terrific at this.

Bill’s page is here.

Of course, at the conclusion of every movie
you could have a voiceover by Doctor
    Clayton Deborah Susan Forrester saying
    “Push the button, Frank.”

Perfect choice.Love the movies on TCM and then having Frank on it would be even better! Maybe Frank could switch with Alec Baldwin once in a while??

Wow, what a great idea!!! Gee, if I close my eyes and try to picture TV’s Frank sitting on the TCM set, seated in that big, comfy chair across from Robert Osborne, I can almost imagine their conversation now….

    .

Robert Osborne: So Frank, I’m told you worked on a show called “Mystery Science Theater 3000” in the early to mid-90’s.

Since I myself only watch classic movies, please tell me a little bit about that particular experience…….

    .

Frank: Oh, it was great………you see, it was basically a puppet show for adults, one that we wrote and performed as a vehicle to make fun of B-movies while…..

    .

Robert Osborne: WAIT………you mean to sit there and tell me that you actually took part in a tv show that centered around derogatory behavior directed at classic films ????

    .

Frank: Well you see Robert, they weren’t really “classics”, per se…..

    .

Robert Osborne: (Angrily turning to producer standing off-stage) Is this some kind of a joke??? You bring in this guy with the big hair who actually admits to defaming motion pictures while in my presence ????

    .

(Quick Cut: The screen momentarily goes black, followed a moment later by a static image of the Turner Classics Logo, with the words, “Please Stand By, We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties…..”)

(After the Technical Difficulties are cleared up and
they come back on air- RO obviously having been told
to act professsionally and get on with the movie intro)

Robert Osborne: Well, let’s just enjoy seing this classic
    cinematic mqaaterpiece “Wild Strawberries.”
    Just start the film, Frank.

Frank: I WILL start the movie. I will START the movie.
I will start the MOVIE. Yes, I will start it.
In fact, I AM THE MOVIE.

    Or even a “cinematic masterpiece.”

I’m sure that Robert Osborne has far better sense of humor than you give him credit for.

Anyway, Frank as a TCM guest programmer would be great. He would certainly be more interesting than past guest programmers.

Not to worry, “mike”……….I watch TCM ALL the time, and love Robert Osborne’s (obvious) passion for film, and the learned, gentlemanly manner with which he handles himself.

I just thought it might be funny to imagine an “evil”, egomaniacal version of the cozy host that we are normally used to seeing.

Rest assured, no offense was intended…….

I think Frank would be a great choice for the slot, as would Kevin. Both have an expansive knowledge of movies that go beyond the cinematic train wrecks they usually work with.

I’ve also noticed that over the last year or so TCMs movie library has really grown to include a lot of B movies and cheezy 70s titles. Frank as guest programmer would have plenty to choose from. Our he may play it really stright and pick some of his fave classics. Either way I think Frank on TCM is a great idea.
